For sure diesels are for city driving and highway cruising, not spirited driving on B-roads and track. One has to weigh that against how much of such driving one does. I haven't been for a just-for-fun B-road drive in more than a year... :)

hahaha....uncle u shud drive a e-class lerr....sit back n relax....kidding

Astroboy, on the Electric Power Steering, i m not sure whether the photo u have attached is it based on N47 or N47 Efficient Dynamics?

If DPF is sighted in the showroom unit, mayb a question should be pose to BMW Malaysia on this matter.

Local diesel units will have the DPF removed. So the one on display is probably not going to be the type of engine sold in the local market.

DPF is more for environmental purposes, to further lower the emission of harmful gases that is emitted as a by product of engine combustion. I think it needs Euro4 diesel for it before it can work.

We did a test by putting a tissue paper on the exhaust, and very little if any carbon soot was noticed, cleaner than petrol engine I must say. The smell which could be a little nauseous, is attributed to sulphur.

One point to note, our local diesel offerings, specifically the 320d will not achieve 4.1l/100km, as it is does not come with the full Efficient Dynamics package. Local 320d will give around 6l/100km, if I remember correctly.

Cheers

The 4.xxL/100km is registered with a manual trany stop/start unit. U need a clutch to start the engine.. yeah u read me right! U need a CLUTCH pedal to start the engine... :D Auto unit can't exploit the technology.

Are these diesel unit CKD? what about the showroom unit? CKD too? I notice the headlight socket harness cover both side also missing.. :p tsk..tsk..tsk..

Diesel price will most likely increase by RM 0.20 per liter next year (most pobably in Jan 2010).

It'll suck royally when our fuel subsidy is limited to 100 ltrs per month and subsidies only applicable to cars below 2 ltrs ...

When the car stops at traffic light, driver shift to neutral & the engine will stop. Once clutch is depress, engine will start up again. Start/stop technology needs bigger capacity alternator & AGM battery.

my personal experience, all dealers will quote more or less same price for new cars...For pre-reg, AB Glenmarie has the widest choices for 3 and 5 series. it's buyers' market these days so, just shop around for the best deals.

For everyone's benefit, just got an email from an SA at AB (BB) about their year end offer. Apparently 323i going for RM248k NEW (not new pre-reg). Have asked for more details about offers on other models.

would be helpful if you could list down the latest pricing for other models.i wonder if 320 coupe is in the list

The dealers are clearing the 2009 cars. Remember by 2010, your car will be depreciated by 1 year. Enjoy the discounts first but when you sell , you have to discount 1 year depreciation price to the buyer. Market price is determined by year of manufacturer, so you enjoy 2 months and your car being depreciated for 1 year

I bought mine on the day before Christmas 2007, treat it as one of our best Christmas present money can buy :stupid: Enjoyed the ownership for few days and it became a 1 year old car.

Its nothing wrong about it because as long as u factor the 1 year depreciation into its discount, then its like u buying the car with a 1 year depreciated price. get what I mean?

Then you should get at 10% discount la. I think 3 series depreciation is about RM15k a year for 2nd year onwards.

Its more than just price and year if you talking about pre-reg car. Both the in/out color option and registration plate number is as important to us. When u bought ours, there's only one black/black left with an "acceptable" plate number. If we miss this, there's few other risks:

1. Pre-reg car in the beginning of the year are all previous years' car. Pre-reg cars for current year will only start to be available during or after the 2nd quarter, then u end up in the same dilemma, again.
2. Color options will become more and more limited.
3. Lesser choice on number plate pick (which of course, u can spend RM2k to change plate again, troublesome).
4. Interest rate can swing adversely.

We decided to cut the crap and enjoy the ride immediately!

Opportunities are only available for those who know when to GRAB!

question: can we interchange the registration number on a pre-reg unit with a new number or old number on our existing ride?

Yes bro. U need to do it before they registered a new number to the new car. Once there is a number registered to it, then you cannot take your existing number to this car. So u need to inform the sales person that u need your existing number into the new car, so that when they registered it, they will interchange the number for u. The new number gotten will then be interchanged to your existing or old ride.

But doesn't 'pre-reg' mean that it's already registered by the dealer before it gets on the list for SAs to sell? I think it would be difficult to arrange a number swop with a pre-reg unless you have enough jalan with the dealer to book and buy a pre-reg even before they register it.
