Going back on my thoughts when i decided to join this club as an official member last year, there were basically 3 areas i hoped to be involved in:
1. Lifestyle. Wanted to expand my social circle; make more friends; attend some nice chic events; have a taste of better things in life
2. Increase my technical related knowledge about the car; enhance the ownership experience. Car care clinics; detailing clinics etc
3. Get involved in some sort of community service.
Other members have other reasons to sign up i am sure but i think probably 80% share similarities with 3 of mine above, no?
So almost 1 year on, did i get what i came for? Yes and no. I certainly made more friends, met a bunch of really cool fellas. We had lots of fun along the way. I tried my best to attend as many events but at times it clashed with my work.
What i really hope to see is the number of official members increase 5 folds in 1 year. To have 1000 members out of say, 10,000 bmw owners, it should not be a problem.
Where to scout for members? More meaningful exclusive events can be planned and at the same time, made known to the forum, we need to sell the benefits to these potential members, this then will pull more people in to become official members.
Not many will sign up and wait for things to happen. Most will do it the other way round. We need to show people what’s in store. 150 is not that expensive for many but, most will want to have the feeling they are getting their money’s worth.
Outside the forum, efforts should also be made to sign members. The f1 pit lounge was a golden opportunity to do so. Could we also leave the club brochures / application forms at some outlets probably frequented by possible BMW owners?
Imagine 1 day this club's membership is so exclusive that it is by invitation only. Possible? I dream of that day
There are many other things we can leverage on once we have the number.
-AB and SA probably will start to offer better discounts to the members for services. No? If you pay for about the same for regular service in authorised dealers, would it be better than the 'specialists' outside?
-we can tie up with hotels, restaurants in the similar manner with lifestyle cards like enrich/starwoods.
-get special privileges / discounts to hip events like f1; performing arts etc.
Just to share some of my thought. I have no intention to run for committee, my time does not allow me to.
Nevertheless, i do hope this club soar to the level of this prestigious brand we are associated with.
