With turbocharging... things have become a little different - engine displacement doesn't necessarily mean everything now, although its still a big factor. A car manufacturer will engineer an engine's internals to withstand the amount of pressures it will have to withstand during turbocharging, no issues.

Current diesel offered in Malaysia runs at below 500ppm - around 300ppm to 400ppm in fact. That's almost Euro 3 in terms of sulphur content, which calls for 350ppm max sulphur. Of course, we cannot call it full Euro 3 spec because we're only looking at the sulphur content number here.

One of my writers Danny spoke to the Peugeot representative here (French guy, not the local Nasim boys) who drives a diesel Pug (Danny can't recall which model - I think its 3008 diesel). Nasim has sent some of our local diesel to France for testing and the results have come back surprising, apparently our diesel is not as bad as all of us think it is and things look positive for the introduction of diesel Pugs here.

But yeah, your last point... it will be good to experience the last of the normally aspirated inline-6 before the entire line-up will be filled with turbo petrol engines - already the inline-6 N55 has replaced the normally aspirated V8s, and the inline-4 N20 will now replace the normally aspirated inline-6. In fact, direct injection just spoils the sweet revving sound that you get with the N52... even the normally aspirated N53 really doesn't sound very good and that comment is made from my experience trashing a N53 engined 330i across Germany.

PS: This comment was written without having to resort to calling anyone a dog!

This is what I expect from u Paul.. Good information and I appreciate that.. I think this would be a great information for others too...! They must thank me as I was called layman / wannabe expert from munich or stuttgart in the process of getting this information / misconception corrected..!! Turbocharging is a way forward now..

what? pot calling kettle black.. who cannot tahan what comments? you feel it..good! join the bashing. This is exactly what I did, cannot tahan. Note that, I only started commenting in this thread recently, just like you.
I like what quoted by paul or should I says assuming, "people pull in relative or friend who work in BMW for some claims which is baseless".. and who is a "diesel" boy always used as an "evidence" to push every"petrol" comment aside.. he is using paul. Sorry Paul, you are in the picture simply due to another person.
So here come the question: you freind, you relative, SA in BMW=baseless and paul= evidence based?..who is pot and who is kettle?
Here to you Paul: When I do a research on what car to buy, do I read your write up? my answer is a pure "yes". Do I find it useful? Yes. Why? It is informative, especially on the car's fact & spec and I says it is generally professionally written. Does this make him the only source to refer to? No! I will take it as a reference vs my own requirement, test it myself before signing on the dotted line.
the so called "bashing" will reduce the 2nd hand value only happen to diesel car? Petrol ones are ok?
Don't do what you dislikepeople to do it on you!

Well said brother. I cannot tahan when I see this sarcastic and condescending remark when other people having civilised discussion. Don't start calling names if you don't want it in return, right?

RH5, sent you a PM. I personally don't find it worth the discomfort of being picked on at any time when discussing anything about diesel in the open in this forum anymore.

aku kene sound ker nih..? im fameesssss now..! ha ha

I do apologies to anybody who got offended by my comments. I was only trying to exchange information / gain more knowledge. I think this thread would do some helps for others who are still undecided over petrol / diesel. It is fairly hard to ask for opinions directly from the BMW engineers themselves but this is one of the source which is available to us now.

I think with the limited amount of information available in MY regarding the technicalities of BMW, it's natural to scavenge all available source to find good feedback. Before I purchased the 535i, I too went through a whole lot to get answers and also went to at least 8 huge grey importers and a few used car dealers inquiring about turbo cars. In the process, I also asked about diesel cars (I was at one point considering a BMW X6 3.0d) and if I were to buy one off them and drove it for a month and sell it back to them, how much they'd pick it up from me. I found that diesel 2nd hand vs petrol 2nd hand (given that both were the same year build), the diesel would lose way more than the petrol (percentage figures). Anyhow, that's just my finding and I'm sharing this for your information, and not to rebut any statement made in this thread.

I did not take it personally at all bro.. I do not think that I got carried away too as I listened to others opinions, without saying you are wrong and I was right. I think that Im pretty open minded here about this. Thats why i apologized to those who got offended as I really did not mean to provoke anybody nor have any other hidden agenda to bash on anything or whatsoever. Hope that i make myself clear.

Bro don worry, you didn't get carried away and you conducted yourself in civilised way. Someone else start the flame war by making 'laymen' comment which you and everyone here don't deserve that. "He who cast the first stone..."

I also asked the same type of question when I tested the 320d, and got a similar reply from my SA. When I reported in another thread, my good-meaning SA was accused of having ulterior motive for wanting to sell me higher cost petrol car. ;)

meetoo, come on man, lets cool it. its clear from all the subsequent posts no one intended to offend anyone. language is a funny thing, some people may type something without meaning any offense, but the reader may perceive the statement in a threatening or condescending behavior. I know this first hand as I work in a multinational company. Some of my colleagues when they speak it seems like they are looking for a fight, but when I take time to understand i realise it just their way of communicating and they never had any intention of looking for a fight.
What I perceive is that no one intended to offend here, pls let it go and let this forum do what it does best.......share knowledge.

Will do as you said bro. But I disagree that there was no intend to offend. Some of the comment, past and present were direct and condescending.

No further comment from me on this. :)

Just to clarify, when I said layman, I was not referring to RH5 or anyone else here. I have already explained to him in PM.

So, are we talking about 4 cylinder diesel reliability or second hand value now?

I also would like to clarify that i did not drive an F10 with the plate number RH5.. Just in case as i already got famess here.... mane tahu kene kejar dgn 'd' bhoys... just kidding..
