Dear Folks,Have been using current E60 523i for last 1 year and recently test drove an F10 520D. Assessingthe drive; power, fuel economy and looks aside I felt the E60 is more fun to drive. Nimble, with moresensitive steering precision. For former E60 owners that have upgraded to an F10, what would you advise please ? (Can't seriouslydecide over a 15 minutes test drive.)

Guzzler,

Agree with u.. :top: .. Test drove F10 520i few months back and felt like the car so light and as well as the steering.
Maybe becoz of the stock wheels or what.. But it was really not fun to drive if compares to my E60 525 M-Sport.. :driver:
Or I should try to test drive F10 528 M-Sport instead then maybe can further judging F10 performance :58:

am an E39 owner and the steering is heavy.. never drove an E60 before but have heard its steering is much lighter to handle than the E39..i suppose its the bmw new electronic steering design in the F10 that caused it to have even lighter feel...

Traded in my 523i E60 for 520d F10 last year. 523i E60 came with active steering and 6 cylinders. So I think in theory for the same age, 523i should have smoother drive. However personally I felt that my 523i started to lose power after 5 years and repair bills were getting ridiculous. Plus F10 is a newer diesel-powered car

Hi Zaak,

Thanks for the info. Reason why I am thinking diesel is for fuel economy. I love to drive around Malaysia but I don't love the fuel bill that comes with the mileage. My only reservation on diesel is the mechanical expertise available
In the marketplace, how many mechanics would know how to diagnose problems to repair appropriately.

My current diesel fuel bill is about 1/3 of my previous E60. As for mechanical expertise, only time will tell. But I suppose being an advanced diesel engine, not much choice but to rely on authorised dealers. But so far I have no complaint about the running of the diesel engine in my F10.

Agree with above, definitely electric steering is lighter on the F10. If you prefer a weightier feel, just press "sport" (provided you have set your "sport" to include chassis) and it will give a similar steering feel to that of E60.
I drive min. 100kms a day and in 12 months in my F10 520d, and have clocked over 37,500kms so far.
It is great not having to visit the refueling stations as often as before.
And, with the diesel torque, overtaking on freeway or climbing a steep incline is not a chore.
Sure, off the line there is a bit of a lag (I feel it every time at traffic lights/toll/hump stops/slowdowns), but I am not doing a 0-60 race in the city. I am doing 100kms on freeway.
As for mechanical expertise, the authorised dealers have trained their staff on the maintenance of the diesel engines but can be very expensive once your BSRI has expired. But I understand that some of the trained staff do a bit of moonlighting.

Great to hear that u are enjoying yr 520D, my main goal is to get max fuel economy not drag racing, but
Nice to have some torque for acceleration on tap, when needed.
I,m more keen on a 520D now but inclined to wait for the Facelift model next year, for fresh goodies and
Resolution of bugs.
Let see if in the long run diesel can overtake the number of petrol cars on the road and last longer.

Cheers
