Diesel passenger cars are more common in Europe versus US...

Not less common...absolutely NONE. Even their trucks, Suburbans and 6-pack vans are petrol. Their trucks make the Hilux look puny. Quite a few hybrids running around now, and the Nissan Altima actually looks quite good. When I asked at the BMW distributorship, they said that a 335d can be ordered in if desired. Sticker price...US$43k.

hi,

i tested the 320d a month back. the torque is damn good, BUT once u're u got the speed u wanted then u realized... its a 320 afterall.... i prefer my 325i. :)

considering the fuel consumption and for urban driving, 320d would make a GREAT car, i would say.

regards

p/s: if i have the money, i dont mind having 320d in my garage.

I've driven the 323 and 325 and I tested the 320d today. For power it is without a doubt the torque at 350Nm pulls a whooping throwback. It's 50Nm less than the 135. As for the looks, you get the best for less. The interior with the Sports Steering and the bucket seats, you would not only FEEL THE JOY, You would LOOK every part of it as well. Hence the only drawback for me is the metal-trim instead of the polished aluminium look. But you could just get it changed....I'd get the 320d if I had it my way even with no i-Drive.

320d XDrive

still can push ..got lots more room , see FC is abt 8lt/100kms and rpm was about 4000 only.. but feeling a bit edgy.. tyre's speed rating is "T" (190kmh only :( ) as such , didn't go all the way.. some lousy brand.."KLEBER"..klepet lah .. :(

Definitely worth a buy Mr President....! The 320d...supreme in its class. Head and shoulders above the rest. Shining knight in shining armour...I better stop now. Thank you.

Personally I think i-Drive actually ruins the car. It over complicates the user interface. We don't need GPS in Malaysia, coz most of the roads aren't on the map anyways. I still prefer the simple radio, instead of the i-Drive radio. The 3 series is the benchmark that all sports sedans are measured against as it is simple and effective. Adding all the extras will only complicate the driving experience. Examples are evident from the 7 series, S-klass, A8.

On the contrary, I find the BMW Navigation very detailed, and was amazed that even roads in small towns like Muadzam Shah and kampung roads in Seberang Perai are included. I don't use the Nav in my daily driving, but the times I've used it, it's been very useful indeed. Especially the search function. Like doing a search for a Shell station within a 5km radius when my tank was low, searching for a particular building in Klang for a meeting, searching for a particular hotel in Sungai Petani where I was booked... Now I don't need to surf and print Google maps beforehand anymore, just jump in the car and find the destination in the Nav. :top:

Also, IMO iDrive itself is a much better and faster interface than using the buttons on the control stalk to scroll through the functions.

For i-Drive on the 323 and 325, it will be a situation when I need, I have it. ;). It's the toy that brings MORE joy to one.

I heard the next batch of 320ds in Malaysia going to get more hp and more torque. You guys heard the same?

As far as i know the official 320d come with 177hp or the real efficient dynamics 163hp. Ofcourse unless we do super chippinglah. Mayb bmw malaysia wants to be one step ahead from the rest

Is this a 320d estate? Doesn't look like a saloon.

driven both...

The 325i is a 218bhp 2.5 litre straight six which gets to 0-100 in under 8 seconds and at the same time sounds sweet and it revs to 7000rpm to 240+km/h ( haven't tested :burnout:) less torque than the 320d...

:fight:

320d, 4 cyl 177bhp 2.0 diesel that sounds like a bag of spanners :107:(no offence :42:), gets 0 to 100 in 8 seconds, loads of torque and tops out at 228 km/h and has probably a decent rev range from 2000-4000rpm when u tekan. wish we had better diesel quality here.. soon in 2011

this is from nst and i quote

"Five reasons for going diesel:

1 Diesel burns less fuel because it has more energy.

2 No high-tension electrical ignition systems to attend to. Therefore diesel cars can go through flood water without any misfiring.

3 Diesel engines last longer. The life of a diesel engine is generally twice that of a petrol engine due to increased strength of parts used and because diesel fuel has better lubrication properties than petrol.

4 Diesel fuel is considered safer than petrol as it will not explode.

5 The carbon monoxide content of the exhaust is minimal, which is why diesel engines are used in underground mines.

Diesel as compared to petrol:

● 20 per cent more power
● 75 per cent more torque
● 30 per cent less fuel consumption
● 20 per cent less carbon dioxide emission
● 30 sen per litre cheaper "

IMO, i'll take the diesel only if the world ran out of petrol...:playingball:
All that and the killer is depreciation. Whatever saved, is spent 10x more on depreciation. Consider.

You must be very good with numbers bro macdaque...you did your PhD in Mathematics and Statistics from Oxford, or Yale? 10x? So your wife's 325i doesn't depreciate meh? Appreciating 100x I am sure Professor.

After driving my 320d for a few months i finally came to a conclusion that the 320d is not a good car le. This is because it is damn bloody good lar hehehe

You bet! supersonic! :top: Don't need to fill up the tank every 400km! Manic torque and exhilarating power and speed married to the legendary 3 chasis.

Nope, I don't have a PhD, that's why I just quote such advice from BMW and some of the 2nd hand dealers who take cars off BMW. That being said, it's a great car to buy 2nd hand. Only gold and property appreciate, nothing else in real terms I am afraid, not even money in FD.

We are proud owners of the brand new 320d so don't give us your 2nd hand this 2nd hand that salesmen advice about depreciation. This is a bmw forum not a gold or property forum, so don't give us any financial planning advice we didn't ask for.We make and spend our own money. We didn't borrow a single sen from you.
