Got to agree with that and in my case just add a dose of curiosity for good measures

The conclusion is, we got nothing better to do and we just love BMW.

How about because no other car gives you the sheer driving pleasure of a BMW? We can get better reliability in a Toyota, better value for money in a Honda, better comfort in a Merc, better sprint speed in an Audi, better liveliness in a Golf. But none of those cars can give you the driving feel of an E90. The steering precision, the balanced surefooted handling, the feedback through your butt. I honestly don't know why there are complaints, when we're driving the best there is!

Torco has 5w-30, BMW-LL04, 100% Synthetic, some say this is Group III oil = semi synthetic.
Mobil1 has 5w-30, not familiar.
Q8 has 5w-30, BMW Special Oil, Kuwait.. :p, Fully Synthetic.
Royal Purple has 5w-30. Not familiar.. :p
Last but not least, Ultraman has 5w-30, Japanese, Fully Synthetic.. :D

Too bad Astroboy only up to 5w-40, BMW-LL04 le.. :D Don't play play.. :D

Finally, my engine oil questions are ALL answered!!

I was doing research on this for a few hours ( damn, have to get more work done now!) and I finally got everything answered. Partly becasue I bought the wrong oil, I wanted the Q8 Formula Special 5w30, but then the importer only had Q8 G Long-Life 5W30, and just sent that to me. So, seems like many of the oil manufacturers only perform certification for some standards and not all, and it is very difficult to judge between them. Like how does M229.31 performs against LL04 vs V505.00.

The answer can be found here. It shows the chart between all the famous standards. That way, you can mapped the some oil which doesn't have LL01 or LL04 certification, but has other ceritifcation. And you can figure out what is good for you! Have fun!

Guys,
LL04 should cover all requirements for LL01 or LL02. So any oil brand stated LL04 should be more than good. Same goes to ATF Dexron 6 (if you find any locally), which covers and bettered all Dexron 3 requirements.

If these charts are accurate, screw LL04. I'm buying MB229.51 oils hehe. BTW, are the local Petronas dealer oils LL01-FE or LL04?

That too u can screw.. both Torco 5w-30 and Castrol SLX 0w-30 outperformed the Syntium dealer's oil, at least in performance.

Viscosity breakdown for Castrol SLX 0w-30 is tested to be better than Syntium dealer's oil, method of measuring the engine temperature at certain km interval. With Castrol SLX, engine remain cool and light!

Not sure about the protection properties of Torco because its a racing oil which the primary objective is to made it run smooth and light!

If you need this Castrol SLX, I'll hook u up with one of our member here who bought them in crates..

What tests are these and who did them? Scientific ones or not?

Expecting u to ask me this... I thought Schwepps will ask first but u beat him to it..

Hmmn... I am convinced.. Scientific? Its tested by this chap who is a member of our forum whom I last heard, is a nuclear scientist.

He's convinced, I'm convinced, and it doesn't matter if you are. Stay with Syntium LL if you think they are great.. I can't wait to drain out mine.. miss my light revving N46B20 so much!

It's either MB229.51 or VW507(2004)... now which oil in the market has either certification? Maybe cost a limb.

Following ken's post, looks like Mobil1 5w-30 ESP has both, as well as BMW LL04.

Mobil1 Formula M 5w-40 has MB229.5 (not dot 51). Where to find this 5W40?? Gotta try this in 2010... after depleting the Q8Excel5W40 (whcih has MB229.3 and VW505.01, not too bad).

By the way the sponsored Castrol Edge 5w-40 is with LL-98.

Can't wait to pour the Castrol SLX Powerflow in my car.:top:

Nissan SC will complain la if all BMWs go there and buy.

Where to buy Torcoand how much? At least its 5w-30. Scared to use Castrol 0W-30.

Wah, have to buy 2 x 4L tong.
