Topping up engine oil on 325i

After my 1st BSRI service.. I just remembered to check my distance-to-next-oil-change reading. Guess what! Its 40,000km !!! ya.. ya.. here we go again..

And when surrendering my car for servicing the other day, the SA ask me: "So is this the first oil change?"

I looked at him and said: "Yeee...s, its the first oil change as far as BMW Malaysia's record is concerned.. but don't worry, I am equally concerned.. but why u ask?"

He said:".... we have many sludge cases.."

It's the BSRI policy of BMWM. It's not the SAs fault and they're genuinely concerned. That's why they're always happy if you go in for an oil change in between at your own cost.

Astro, I think maybe they reset wrongly. From my previous 2 BSRI services, the next service will be like 20K km away and not like 40k km!

However, I am speaking this based on my 6-potter. Not sure if there are "tweakable" dates for the BSRI and 4-potters.

Bro, changing fully synth oil at 5k intervals is wasteful. It can actually last for 25k or 12 months, although I change at 1/2 that interval.

How come your BSRI is at 20k after having a 10k BSRI? It should be at 30-35k depending on the condition of your car.

i changed without BMW Msia knowing about it. not recorded la. so car still thinks first due oil change is at 20k.

Well you said in your post: 5k own cost, 10k BSRI, 15k own cost, 20k BSRI. So the 10k was own cost too then?

If you do a BSRI, the interval to your next BSRI is 25k from that point...unless you have strong cables in BMWM :)

sorry it should have been
7k bsri, 14k own cost. next due oil change is at 15k, bsri. by the way, how come the 15k is NOT COUNTING DOWN???

Start the car and bang the dashboard a few times - maybe the counter is stuck... :D

Haiyah, you very confusing la. My head is spinning oredi! Next due oil change is at 15k, or 15k to go? What is your odometer reading now, and what does your oil service indicator show?

Totally agreed with Schwepps suggestion. Bang harder ya...
LOL....

wait a minute. SOMEONE told me the 15k should be counting down. :) You mean it supposed to mean due AT 15k?? My odo is already past 17k la. better go Ingress tomolo or monday.
thanks for the heads up bro

:102: Your post said "next due oil change is at 15k, bsri" laa!

So your 1st BSRI was at 7k, and next BSRI will be at 32k. The gap is ngam-ngam 25k lor. You did an own-cost change at 14k (why so early?) So it would make sense to do another own-cost change at 23k. You could have been fine with only 1 own-cost change at 20k. Then it would have been 7k/20k/32k. Now it will be 7k/14k/23k/32k. Can? If cannot, pull out a calculator...or a hammer. :D

The counter is not going to go 14999, 14998, 14997 like a microwave... It's a dumb car, so it decreases in 1000km lots. After a while it'll show 14000. Be patient. :)

Maybe i'm mixing with astroboy too much. I think I'm beginning to sound like him! :help:

Sorry Schwepps, i was totally confused by the terms la. so this is assuming bmw's official count of 25k gaps for oil change. crazy man cos they already know we will suffer engine sludge at that interval. reading about their unofficial 10k interval, i will try my luck at 23k and hope i get free oil or labour :)

PS my maths isnt good either.

Hahaha! Good fun discussing stuff with you. :top:

No assuming, 25k interval is a fact. Mine is 10k/31k BSRI, so it's 21k interval for me. Maybe because I drive relatively high speeds and accelerate hard at least once a day. My long term average speed is still in the mid-40s kmh.

(no choice but to resurrect an old thread) According to realoem.com, all N52B25 under MYS country code up to 2007/02 is "N52" where as 2007/03 onwards (their database up to 2008/08 only I think) uses "N52N". You can use any valid Malaysia VIN # (last 7 characters/digits in your chassis code. V something) in realoem to do the search above... then just vary the year and you can see the "Engine:" column toggles between "N52" and "N52N"

What is the difference between N52 vs N52N...

According to the pictures below, if you notice the silver cover engine has a shiny cooler device located next to the oil filter. The black cover version does NOT have the cooler device next to the oil filter. But according to realoem diagram on N52N, it shows the cooler device... so I am confused. Either the diagram is not updated, or the black cover engine below may not be N52N.

N52 earlier gen will still be using the common N52B25 or N25B30 for engine designation.
Simply check your registration card. Visually your engine valve cover is grey in color like this:

N52B25.jpg

New N52KP grade engines have forgone the common engine designation because it can have variants which are the same displacemnet but different power outputs. Designation for engine looks like this code:

N52B25O1 , second last digit will vary for power outout. O - high output version, M - medium, U - lower class outout and K - lowest class output. The last digit is for technical upgrade or revisions goes from 1, 2,3 .....
Visually, it will have the black engine valve cover:

hey guys, in need of help here. currently driving the LCI 325i Sports, today the obc warned me to top up 1l of engine oil. unfortunately tomorrow is labour day hence Ingress would not do any repair work according to my SA. my SA recommended me to top up 1l of engine oil at the soonest. but what i am currently baffled is that i did my first BSRI service at 8k kms, and now im at 16.5k kms and the warning has popped up. from the obc, my next bsri claim is another 11k kms. anyhow, i intend to do my own oil change at the 10k kms interval which should be in 1.5k kms from my current mileage. what do you guys think i should do? just top up 1l of engine oil? or wait until monday then do the engine oil change at my own cost? oh another question, do you guys happen to know what engine oil and spec is Ingress using?

wait till monday, drive in to Ingress and have ur oil change..at ur own cost.
ingress using petronas..*i think* the answer is in this one of the 28 pages of the thread.

Yes IA is using Petronas Syntium. I just had my car serviced from IA at 17k on the clock at my own cost. My first BSRI service was 7k

I did my 1st BSRI at 7k last week. Engine oil warning message popped up. According to the SA, the magnesium engine of our 6-cyl potter requires an engine oil top-up every 7k-10k. His advise is to change the engine oil at our own cost instead of topping up. Helps to avoid the risk of oil sludge problem.

Hope this helps

thanx for the advice, but i still think perhaps i should top up a little bit and then do the change on monday. or is it safe to still drive around with minimum oil level until monday?
