I was told that changing the engine block is different from changing the engine!?? As such it does not require any paperwork for re-registration. Anyone can enlighten us?

Hi DMens & Yellowmanta,
I have been reading your posts with interest. I own a E90 325, and have been having the exact same problems. My engine requires a 1 litre top-up every 3,000km+, and I have done this 4 times now.

AB has finally admitted that this is an issue and have filed an application for a new engine block.

Since your last post was a bout a month ago, I was wondering if you could share with me the process that you went thru with AB? I hope your cars are now up and running again. Thanks very much in advance.

I have contacted AB and yes..they agree to do that up for free and I have not booked any time slot cauz i need the car at the moment as they dun provide and courtesy car. According to the advisor, BMW germany agree to dismantle the engine and check if its major problem. If so, they will change the whole new engine. I have re-confirmed this and yes, a brand new engine. Im not sure how the paperwork gonna be but i guess this is AB's responsibility. So will update u guys once i send my car in maybe next week or 2.

Thanks DMens. I have just sent my car in to change the engine block. I was told that the change is for the engine block and not the whole engine. They were very helpful in showing me the diagrams of the parts that they will be replacing. The engine block is about half of the whole engine. No re-registration paperwork will be required as the main engine itself is still intact.

The N52 is running an "on-demand" engine oil circulation system, meaning oil will not be channeled up onto the head at all-time, by cutting out the pump, the engine gain another 3hp. Kind of scary to learn about the system!!

Heat can built up on the top if we drive hard and by the time the pump is activated, it's like pouring oil onto hot pan, the result is evaporation! So oil top up is necessary at a fix interval.

N46 on the other hand, is still running a traditional engine oil feed system, so its running all time which will not only cools the engine better, but keep lubricating the engine head at all time, at an expense of 3hp..

[Disclaimer: The above are all hear-say, so I'm not sure..]

My E60 (06 model) also just prompted the oil top up message this morning. My mileadge is 16K and I have top up once before and this is the second time. After reading this thread, it sounds really scary man. How can BMW ever design such an engine for a street car!? I will be going over to IA to have it check this week.

Hi DeMens,
One month to get back your car?! Which AB outlet are you dealing with? The chaps I'm dealing with at Segambut once called me to say the parts all there but no courtesy car but they can assign more mechanics and I can have the car back in 3 days! Thank goodness I didn't buy their story and insisted on a courtesy car before i send my car in for the engine block change.
As of now, i'm still waiting for their return call. A few weeks now and obviously nobody has called yet....
Cheers

Folks,
Sent my car in on Mon for the heart surgery. Funny though the worksheet doesn't say anything about changing the cylinder block other than checking compression of all cylinders, disassembling and re-assembling engine, removing pistons and replacing piston rings, engine vent pipes, oil strainer and hoses.
Supposed to hear from them next week. meanwhile they provided me with a courtesy car (coz I insisted anyway lest they'd take their own sweet time to do the job). Keeping my fingers crossed that the oil consumption will be normal after the surgery....
Cheers

Lol...mine still in the ECU after 3 weeks. Still havent get any call from them yet. Yea, the hospital name is BMW AB Glenmarie. They called me on the first week saying that still waiting for a new heart from Germany and asked me to wait. Gonna call them up tomorrow and check with them again. And again, no courtesy car at all....I wonder if the heart transplant will do any better or else Im gonna trade-in for Lexus IS250. Is that a good idea? Still considering.

Report update:

Called in 3 and half weeks after sent my car in. Approached them for updates. Still waiting for certain parts from Germany and not sure when gonna be ready. Its been nearly one month there already. Insist for courtesy car, AB rang me this morning to pick up my courtesy car, brand new E90 320I SE. After driving the E90, still find E60 are better overall. Glad at least have a courtesy car now and still waiting and waiting...

Hi DeMens,
Got my car back on Fri. Exactly after 10 days sending it in. So far the car seems to drive pretty normal but will be observing things closely to see if in the process they have screwed up anything else or not. But so far so good, time will tell.
Great that you have been given a courtesy car. That's incentive in itself for them to work on your car asap. You're right, the E60 is a better drive than the E90. But I must say the 320i Sport that was given for my use was very nippy and responsive but those lowered springs are pretty bumpy, esp on the rear.
Cheers

Yea, I hope they can get my car done soon. The E90 320i SE are very responsive compared to the E60 maybe due to its size. I also found that its quite bumpy, easily lose grip and the steering wheel is so heavy...feels like driving a lorry..... I wonder why the E90 320 come with 17 inch rims but my E60 only 16 inch as stocks...:stupido2:

Hi everyone. I'm glad I stumbled upon this forum as I feel like I've finally found a 'support group' for the engine oil problem that has been plaguing my E60 525i M Sports 2006.

AB Glenmarie has never given me an acceptable explanation why i need to top up my engine oil every few thousand km's. My car is just over 2 years old now (27K km) and has needed 5 times top up. I note that some of your cars needed even more!

Anyway, this forum is great because i finally know that AB is screwing around me like I've suspected all along. I'm making an appointment with AB to get this matter sorted out once and for all..perhaps I will need a new engine block too. Will keep you guys posted.

Thanks again for all your input.

Experience

Hi everyone, just got my car back exactly 6 weeks since i sent in. I dunno if they solved the problems but was told has a brand new engine block. I dunno its brand new or not as I cant see with my bare eyes. Hopefully its new and said they will call me up after one month for the paperwork due to the new engine number. Well, as i could say, Im VERY DISAPPOINTED with their services. Let me share the story from the beginning when i was handed over my key. FYI, I purchase my e60 523I beginning of the year 2006 from Auto Bavaria Kuching, in Sarawak.

Early 2006- Was handed over the key and a happy man cauz the car is nice and looks awesome in every angle. Happily driving it and feel proud cauz not much e60 in Kuching by the time. :top: After the 1st 1000km, try to call up AB to ask when should i sent it in for the 1st ever service like every others car. Was told it was maintainence free and only have to sent in when the message pop out on the OBC. Was so shocked and dun believe, no oil changed needed? No fluid top-up needed? Nvm, since AB said no need then no need lar. Try to ask around and everyone seems shocked and disbelieve as well. But since got my car from AB, thinking they would not lie to me and maybe the new engine and also more advance technology that you do not need to service your car. Well, weeks after weeks happily driving and the frist message poped out during one rainy afternoon, "Please add 1 litre Engine Oil". Ok, drove to AB and consult them, the BM makan engine oil one kah? They say yes and thats why u dun need get your engine oil changed like others made car. Make sense also rite if they said it this way. Then ok, tambah 1 litre cost me RM 70++ banyak mahal! Its BMW mah maybe. Ok, then weeks after weeks, damn! The message pops out again, now im a bit worried, why izzit so fast? Less than 3000km need to top-up again! Nvm, bring back to AB and paid RM70++ again. Asked them, why so fast need to top up again? They told me that maybe its new engine, havent really run in so its normal. Make sense again! OK, didnt bother so much and drove drove drove for couple of months. Then Pop out again the message! @#$^@^!!! How to survive like tat every 3000km have to top up? Went back to AB again, same story being told. Stoopidly pay RM 70++ again, believe their story. Ok, fast forward to year 2007.

2007- Came to KL for work purposes, ship my e60 over and drove happily but there is so much e60 in KL. ok, drove drove, message pop up again, cauz Im new in KL, so asked my friends if they know any AB or not. Was guided to AB Glenmarie. Ok, top-up again, this time RM60++, cheaper a bit.:top: Consult AB, is it normal that we owes have to top-up the engine oil for e60? Answer was "YES". Thought the ppl here should know more cauz Kuching u know lar, not as advance as KL. Answer is a YES then wat can i do?? Just pay and shut up lar, dun wanna make myself like idiotic or kampung boy by asking so much basic questions. :listen: Then this scenario happened over and over again in the year 2007.

2008- Was surfing the net and accidentally found this forum, BMWclubmalaysia! Try to see if theres any topic regarding this or not. Then started this topic asking all the bros and sis here if they have this problem. And the responce was good. :top: Thanx to everyone here with their input! Ok, back to track, it happned again, went to AB, tell them seriously I hate this, not long not long have to top up. Ask directly in their face, BMW so lousy and so troublesome? RM300+k need to top up engine oil so soon and brings me troble keep coming to AB. I was braging there and they said ok, send your car in, let us run a full engine test. Ok ok, fast fast make booking and sent my car in. Waited 2 or 3 days, was called and go pick-up my car. Then was told the result "not very good". Aiks, then how? Then they run through their computer, click click click, eh, your warrenty just expired lar. Cham lor....then how? Nvm nvm, let me e-mail to Germany and ask if they can replace a NEW ENGINE for you under warrenty or not since your milege is still low. That time was about 32xxxkm. Ok ok, and waited for reply. :smokin: Ok, they called again, Germany side agreed to do that under warrently. Been very busy that time and needed my car so booked in on the 7/7/08. Sent in and was told to wait at least 3 weeks. Wat to do, if wanted to fix then wait lar. (this is wat i think). Then ask got courtesy car to lent or not?? Tak ada lar, no car at the moment. Fine lor, wat to do? Force them to lent me the new M6 int he showroom meh??:driver: Ok, Rang them up time to time and dammit, hardly get through or theres no pick up. Angry dy, go directly to AB, asked, already done? But too bad they still waiting parts and said will ring me once its done. Then waited again :coffee: After 4 and half weeks, still no call or anything, very the diu lor....called them up and same thing, either kenot get through or no answer. Damm pissed already, go to AB again, this time they smart a bit! When saw me without me saying a word, fast fast offer me courtesy car. Saying got brand new car for you dy, come and collect tomolo cauz we still waiting for parts. Click click click on their computer and show me, "nah! Im not lying, we are really waiting." (I made this up) Saw the thing, keep quiet and not so angry dy cauz got courtesy car mah. Go back 2 days later, drive the brand new e90 320I SE with only 1km milege on the clock. Dunno its true or not, only 1km but does have the brand new car smells. Dun care lar, got courtesy car good enuf dy. After driving this 1 and a half weeks, and exactly today, receiived a call this morning at 8.40am saying that my car is ready, you can come and pick it up. Alamak, today i full schedule lar, how to go pick? Tell them tomolo i go pick, today bz. Then they start saying kenot lar, we need our courtesy car back, some ppl are waiting dy. Then I said afternoon I call you, see if I done my things dy or not. Then Afternoon still busying, they called again, saying you are coming over today rite? Then I also almost done dy, that was about 5pm. I went over lor. Diu, ask me wait there like 40 mins wathching olympic on TV. But also got one good-looking gal (customer) there so can kill my boredom a bit.:listen: Ok, come, I'll drive your car to the front so you can transfer your things. Ok lar, I thought they do it rite away, damn, tunggu 15 mins again! Ok, here comes my car. Transfer transfer then say thank you and goodbye. Then drove out, at the first traffic light, i was trying to preset my radio, the door lock, the lights. Oh, forget to say, theres some weird smells in my car once i got in but didnt care much. Then second traffic lights, look at the floor mat, cauz I have my own rubber floormat so that will not dirty the carpet. Check check check, alamak! One piece of my own rubber floor mat and also the original carpet floor mat was not there. zzzz.....Then stop at the side, open my boot, ahh!!! There it is....when i was preparing to put the floormat down, shytttt...why its so wet?? The floor carpet of my car is completely wet! More like the scene of after flooding. No wonder theres this wet and stinky smells. Fast fast U-turn, go back to AB, called them out and ask them take a look wat happened? He touched touched said yea hor, and said that they washed your car. I suddently go blanked!!! Why WASH the carpet inside and my car is owes clean especially the carpet part cauz i have my own rubber mat. If you want, you vacuum lar, dun lar wash with water! And how now i ask him? Expecting him to say ok, you drive back your courtesy car and come back tomolo after we dry them up. I was really pissed cauz i hate to have my car back in this kind of condition! But no! :27: He go and take some old newspaper, placed it over and said that it will obsorb the water. I was like WTF?? Its all wet, and its impossible you can do tat. Even it does dry up eventually maybe after one month and what about the odor??? Damn!! Then guess what he said? Hm...if got smells then you bring back tomolo! Sighh....this kind of service, u think im so free to drive there and back so many times? So wat to do? I drove home lor unhappily, questions like should i sell this damn car and buy something else? Should I trade in for others? Cauz Im very pissed and unhappy after all this things happened. Its more like F**K it, fix or not fix i dun F**king care also dy. Its really $@%&^!!! Both the car and AB!!! Then reached home, checked thoroughly again. Damm, there are 2 sides that are super wet which u can actually feel the water on the damn carpet! and the other 2 sides are not so wet, more like dampy feel. Take out the wet detachable carpet and guess what i found? Once I took out and hold in my hand, It was like water dripping all over on the floor real fast! I see this also headache!!! and the floor carpet of the car is also wet...I dunno wat to do dy. Just chuck everything in the boot, lock my car and here Im complaining here. I dun even wan to drive that car anymore. I will go back to AB again tomolo and see what they gonna do but i dun expect much already. Disappointed and Angry!

Ok, sorry for such a long complaining post cauz i really kenot tahan already. I really feel so disappointed for the whole experience. Anyone can advise me what to do??? Formal complaint? I think do complain also they dun care lar rite? Ntg we can really do. zzz......:14: Now i wonder if they'll ring me up for the paperwork or actually wait for me to go and see them again. A BIG DISAPPOINMENT!!!
