Nizar, u top up every 3 km seems abnormal i think.
But mine is touching 8km already...Do u think i need to change the oil separator + its related hose ???
Any sifus pls give advice & comment...:burnout:

8k Km? i"ll be very v happy if mine can hit the 8k km before 1 liter topping up. I came accross an owner whose car requires 1 liter topping up in less than 2k km.

I changed my oil separator + related hose 2 month ago. forked out RM 2k for this. too early to say ....... still experimenting the outcome. sometimes feel like selling back the car. 1 liter of top up at every 3k km - 4k km is ridiculous. my previous CRV for 7 years never had this problem but it happens to E60 (magnesium engine) the so called premium car .... is absurd.

is yours a N52 magnesium engine as well?

 where did you get those those changed nizar? RM2K is too expansive ! I had mine changed at AB Segambut for less tahn RM1K!
with regards to your topping up 1 liter every 3-4k is also out of the norm. Maybe the oil you are using needs to be look into 1st. Is it full syn (5W 40)?

i had it changed at bm world in desa pandan. the oil separator alone cost rm 800++. but when add to other related hose bla... bla it totalled up to rm 2k.

u changed your oil separator due to makan minyak hitam issue as well?

how often (in terms of mileage) u need to top up previously b4 changing the oil separator? any significant improvement since the replacement?

is yours a N52 engine as well? what year?

i am using petronas sythium 3000 can remember exactly the oil grade

A lot of members here are using Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40.

Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40 gives u longer mileage before every 1 liter engine oil top ups? if yes, i might consider to switch to Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40 instead of petronas synthium

using 5 50W and topping 1 litre evry 4k is abt norm, considering our weather...but a check shud be done to make sure there are no other reasons for it to be topped up..

I have no "makan oil" issue till this date. topping up after running above 4K is norm but depends on hw much needed to be topped up. If more than a liter, than its not normal.
AS for my oil separator it only cost me RM200+ and I had it changed because its due and not becoz of other reasons.
My engine is M57 year 2004
Petronas Syntium 3000 is graded 5W 40
Recommended oil for my ride is 0W 30 but I'm using Syntium 3000 5W 30.

:) you sure bro .. ? Be it shell or petronas or even the "liquid engineering" castrol, if its the recomended grade (viscosity) to be used for our udm, it makes little difference.

I'm using Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40. Mileage already passed 5.5K km and oil level now at 3/4. No need to top up yet.

Agree to this...weather do play a part on this issue...

why bmw do not has fixed engine oil grade for its model??? like use 5w/40 for e60. currently different workshop has their different grade of engine oil to their clients. For those who is new to bimmer( new bimmer owner) they 100% depend on their mechanic ?? they not even know what is 5w/40, 10w/50..bla bla. bla.

i only get to know some knowledge after read & read this forum...

what is underneath your bonnet? the M54 engine or N52 Magnesium Engine?

Its a M54. It was consuming engine oil before I changed the oil separator. Thereafter problem gone

The only engine that face this so-called "makan minyak" issue is N52... never once I heard that those with M54 faces this problem. Of course, unless there's carbon deposit or sludge inside the engine :D

When I was on my M20E34, I never had this problem. But after months of owning CKD 2003 E39, travelling without 1liter engine oil spare in the boot is scary :D

Ahh mine is E39 not the mighty e60

You mean your e39 M54 is consuming lube?? If so, then better send your car to workshop to rectify it. Mine is also e39 M54 and mileage close to 220,000 km and does not need any lube top up.

Mine is M52 2008 model, never needed to top-up oil between the service interval of 15k km, touch wood. So far so good
