:stupid:that's the key word guys ..."PROBLEM" ....frequent topping-up indicates problems and that is not Normal! Get AB or BMW to own up to this problem. If the mechanics says its normal to top up so frequently, then tell him that he is not fit to be a mechanic.
A friend of mine had a new engine when he "pressed" AB for accountability. He was lucky as his was still under warranty. So for those of you out there with similiar issues .....go straight to them and have your engine change....:top:

It is NOT normal!!!

I would strongly suggest you to get Auto Bavaria to rectify this problem ASAP. This frequent topping up of engine oil is absolutely abnormal. Auto Bavaria is fully aware of this issue with some of the E90 325i and E60 523i that comes with the new magnesium engine block. If you don't solve this matter now, you would definitely face greater problems later when your car ages. Imagine, new car like this need to top up oil so frequent, what would it be when it is older later ???

Moreover, why should you be paying for the oil top up ??? Auto Bavaria should be responsible for it since this frequent top up oil is abnormal. A normal scenario to top up 1 liter of oil is at 9,000 to 12,000 km mileage of travel. If I am not mistaken, check your record and it will shows that at every 2,500 to 4,000 km mileage of travel, the indicator will light up asking you to top up 1 liter of oil. Am I right ? If yes, you better get this rectified as soon as possible as this is totally abnormal. Should demand for a logical answer from Auto Bavaria as to the reason of excessive/high engine oil burn.

Unfortunately my previous owner didnt take AB to task and i'm saddled with this problem now.

Engine oil burn-off(oil consumption) happens not only in BMW. We are seeing the same kind of problem in Audi, VW, and Mazda RX8 too. Most NGV cars are also experiencing the same problem. Switch to a thicker engine oil might improve the situation...though I doubt it will completely solve the problem.

I own a 523i Year 2004 September - 7 years old car.

Drive the car fast on highway to work and get stuck in 45 minutes traffice crawl in evening.

Using the BMW 05/40 engine oil with oil change @ 10,000 km.

No loss of engine oil, I believe if there is a loss it must be due to other problems e.g overheating, gasket leak, etc.

I use Blue chem to flush out old engine oil before replacing with new engine oil.
