Oris,

steering tightness is easily adjustable, just ask ur mechanic to do it...there is a nut you can tighten on the rack...

did u check whether u got a new rack or a recond one? from the price, sounds like recond. anyway, the price is quite good, hope it comes w warranty....

Lee,

Thanks for the advice. The mechanic told me that it'll be tight for a few weeks, until then it'll be normal.

I think the rack is a recond one, because I contacted Auto Bavaria, and they quoted me RM5k for the power steering rack.

I just bought the car 2 weeks back..

Hi lee, where are you rebuilding your gearbox? :dunno:

even 5k from AB is a recond one as well. they just don't tell you.

my steering rack, even when new, wasn't that tight... so monitor urs carefully.

Here's the 2nd repair to my baby, after getting it for less than a month:

1. Water bypass hose = RM58
2. Bonnet hydraulic absorber = RM130
3. Windscreen water sprinkler = RM165
4. Labour Changes = RM60

Hopefully everything is fine now, because I am driving down to singapore next weekend!!!..

dont worry bro. as long you service the engine and have agood sets of tire and water in the tank will do

Woah !!! Major bill today, but I guess it's due since the car is 9 years old. Hope this is a good indication for others to expect similiar repairs ... :D

Problem : air-con gas leak at cooling coil
Car : e36 318i (M43)
Year : 1996
Mileage : 116,500 km
Place : Naidu, Jalan Gasing

1) Air-con cooling coil (aluminium) RM390
2) Receiver / dryer RM190
3) Expansion valve RM140
4) Gas & oil top-up RM50
5) Micro-filter RM60
6) Labor RM350

Items # 2 actually has no problems, but Naidu suggested replacement since the old part may affect the overall flow of the system & ultimately the new coil. Item #3 is attached to the coil itself so might as well change together since the whole dashboard has to be taken down.

My only gripe is the high labor cost. I think Naidu knows he's highly recommended by the Club, so has upped his rates a lot lately ... :(

hi! new member here. got a E36. need to change the steering rod coupling. any idea where to get one at reasonable price? cheers!

I have actually sent my car to Naidu the day before yours. Even though my aircon was serviced by another aircon specialist when I first got my car about 8 months back, I found the aircon was no longer cold when the weather was hot. Sent my car to Naidu for check-up. He found a few things that needed attention i.e. microfilter was clearly long overdue, the rubber foam gasket was rotten (no wonder I had less air coming out at the vents) and a few others. He charged me RM700 though. You can check the breakdown in my following post. Oh, the good part... my dashboard is no longer creaking and he has also sorted out some potential wiring problems.

Boo hoo, an update.... :(
