what hose is wrapped in cloth but also has wire coiled around it?

probably one of the high pressure hydraulic for the power steering.

As for me, considering to change to a HONDA now as the maintenance costs will be a killer given the "black magic" nature of electronics and specialised computers.

Which model? Honda parts are not cheap either & doesn't give the the feeling of ultimate driving machine. BMW is very demanding but if u pampered her it will reward you:wink:

I wouldn't mind a FD2 Type-R.

Terri, try taking a picture of the hose you mentioned and post it here. That way we'll be able to see it and advice.

honda cheap???

i spent rm400 for a regular 20K km service at Honda SC... for a god damn honda jazz which has an engine size of a motorbike, hehe... huh and when i went thru their chart, 40K km service is gonna cost me at least 1K including belt change... mati oh...

No worries.. check my IP, its not from East Malaysia.. :p :34:

that hose is just below the windscreen on the passenger side of the engine ...... looks like a fuel hose with a thin coil of wire running around it along the length and it is covered in cloth ....

i think normally you wouldn't be able to see the coiled wire around the hose because the cloth covers it ....... my wire has gone through the cloth in certain places and is no longer surrounding the hose properly ........ that's how i know the hose is something i better replace asap .....

(i will take the car to BMWorld for inspection again. they did a very good job inspecting the car the last time and knew exactly what needed to be replaced. also they only charge RM50 for inspection and they know their stuff. the hoses are really falling apart ....... sigh ..... )

also since the radiator and brake systems need to be flushed, i might as well change all the suspect hoses at the same time .... just need to see which one should be done first .... or if something else is about to fail and has to be done immediately .........

i had originally planned to fix 1 section of the car every month but so far have been distracted with minor part failures in all sorts of different places .... it's throwing me off schedule and budget .....

Is it something like this.

steel braided hose....usually used for brakes which will enhance the braking performance since the hose would not bent......

50 RM just for an inspection hardly sounds like a bargain. What's included in the inspection? To be honest, kind of surprised you would go back there after what you described in your other posts.

Maybe you should try the other BMWorld in Desa Tun Razak. Different owner. They are efficient and have a reputation for fixing "nightmare" cars.

you might want to ask honda if this is true ...:listen:

yes, i did enquire as the jazz CVT gb is known for its fragility... $30K+ plus labour and all should sum up to about $40K... as per the salesperson...

Thanks jarance but no.... its not close to the engine .... but right up against the wall of the engine compartment behind the ABS pump i think ....

i'm inclined to think wlvrn is right and it's most likely a brake hose of some sort (yikes) .......

i think i really have to send the car in for inspection to check all the hoses.... because the ones i can already see are in bad shape and i'm really worried about all the other hoses that i cannot see.......

i am abit disappointed with my mechanic's worker because i asked him to check all the hoses and he said they were all ok ..... but they obviously aren't ....

(in the old days mechanics used to check the car while they were fixing it - nowadays they just want to fix what is obviously wrong and cannot be bothered to check anything else .... i suppose the more cars they fix the more money they earn so they don't want to waste any more time than they have to ....)

with a car this old, i need to follow the advice of the members here and take some preventive measures before i breakdown on some dark road just because a hose failed .....

considering a 2 year old CITY, cheaper and reliable.

Costs for maintenance are mounting, and want some peace of mind.

Right side!!! Should be this picture.. The left side is for the Water Heater Hose.
