- zf 5speed transmission + tcu
- cylinder head with lifters, valves.
- piston rings, timing chain, timing gear, tensioners, bearing, etc.
- prop shaft assembly
- rear differential, driveshaft, wheel bearings, etc.
- suspension (arms, linkage, abs, spring, etc)
- body panels (doors, boot lid, fenders, bumpers, hood, windscreen, rear window, side windows.
- power steering (rack, cv joints, vane pump)
- brakes (hoses, abs unit, booster, master cylinder, reservoir, etc)
- obc unit, instrument cluster, dashboard, door trim, interior trims, seat belts, seats, switches, etc.
- starter motor, ignition coils, fuel lines, fuel pump.
- a/c system (cooling coil, evaporator, filter, lines, etc.
- too much more to list, whole stack of receipts for the parts.

basically tore down the whole car down to the last bolt and rebuild from scratch, can say about 95% of the items in the whole vehicle is replaced. all parts are new, not re-conditioned or 2ndhand.

the car runs like a brand spanking new car now.

Phew, I cant match that already running out of $$team. Anyway I admire anyone who tries painstakingly to restore a car. It requires true commitment.

As for me I started out with a RM10k repair budget which doubled as a result of some unforeseen circumstances.

By the way muscledehz, was your cylinder head new and how much did it cost you? Could you also post some pics of your car. Tq

This is the famous e36 of Mr Musclehedz. He does not do anything halfway. As the cantonese would say, one word (and it's not a swear word), Fuk! :adore:
So, anxious, spending 20k on your car is quite a bargain by comparison, eh?

Musclehedz, thanks for making me realize I am not crazy in terms of what's been spent on my car, and for keeping the e36 spirit strong.

maintenance 40k even though almost all parts replaced??

Tires already cost nearly 3k, change 4 times.

crankcase oil, transmission oil, brake fluid, coolant, differential etc. all this changed at an interval at 15k and all are flushed. about 3k each service. uptodate serviced about 6 times.

other services such as a/c service every 6 months at naidu, about 200 each time so that would be about 6 visits by now = 1.2k.

some other bits and pieces stuff such as detailing, etc..

I managed to average RM4000 per year on repair bills for my E30.

Hopefully next year with all the work I havae done this year, I can bring down my expenses on my E36 to that figure. Keeping my finger crossed.

Dear Anxious,

Do you remember when you realised Santa does not exist? If you're referring to RM4k as the annual maintenance expenses, yes, good chance. If you're referring to RM4k as repair bill, and knowing how meticulous you are... Déjà vu coming up soon...

Yes Lee, its probably wishful thinking on my part but then again miracles do happen:wink: .

Thank God I've managed to keep my expenses to a bare minimum this year. Almost 4 months and 4000km have passed since my last service. At that rate my next oil change will be anorher 4 months @ 8000km, since I am running on Mobil 1.

Anyonelse care to share your E36 maintenance experience here....Cheers.

Looks like you have changed almost everything in your car Anxious. I spend +- 12K a year. 1k a month give and take a few hundreds. Except for this year where in April I spent RM 7800. Which includes Paint job, Rim refurbishment, few minor repairs, few internal pillars changed. so my estimate this year will be RM 7800 + RM 11000, which comes up to 18,800, still less than what I pay the Goverment in taxes. there should be rebate in income tax for car maintenance, then better maintained cars, with cleaner emmissions, and less fuel usage. The Government will save more, in environment cleaning and fuel subsidies. ( sorry off topic! But can't help it, every time I see me tax returns it boils me)
