Could be tappet noise due to the new oil being too thin.

sunflower oil is not suitable for BMW engines. Make sure source of your oils is reputable one, than double check again.

Back tracked over 40 pages but can't find info on oil pump. Just wondering any sifu has replaced their engine oil pump before? If so, how much does it cost for a new one?

Are you talking about the one inside the engine? Item No.1 on the diagram in the link?

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=CD12&mospid=47447&btnr=11_1276&hg=11&fg=30

Honestly I don't know anyone who have had issues with this. The oil pump is pretty strong unit, although the one fitted into M52 engine tends to be a little weak if you ask me. M52 tend to get oil starvation hence the "tepet" sound problem. It's normal though and from what I researched it isn't actually harmful to the engine.

I am not too sure actually but my research on the web tells me its the item you are refering to. I'll have to recheck with my mechanic again because he told me that the engine oil pump has worn out as the oil pressure is weak. Was thinking of ordering it from Singapore but maybe I should reconsider since no Sifu has replaced this item before. Mine is a 325 so its a M50. Thanks for your feedback!

Just double confirm with your mech lor. If you need to replace it then might as well. Did you check how much the pump costs?

I'm actually trying to research to see if our engines can be retro-fitted with the M3 oil pump instead and also using the M3 oil pan. According to a friend the M3 oil pump is a stronger unit and the M3 oil pan actually has baffles in it that makes pick up of the oil easier. I'm not sure if it's worthwhile doing also since M3 parts would be more expensive.

Maybe some other sifu here can shed some light on the subject.
