guys, was reading through the forum and found out that to replace the steering rack, it cost between RM650 to RM1500 for a recond unit, and the repair kit only cost around RM300++. Just wondering how to determine whether the steering rack leakage problem could be settle with just the repair kit or to replace the whole thing.

Hi Guys,

I'm new to this forum and hoping that all of my elder brothers could advice me on rebuilding my E36. We just bought ourselves a bargain 95' 325 last Friday as my wife & i wanted to do this as our family project. Hopefully she doesn't scream when she see the bills. I have not checked the car throughly but here are the list of problems i have encountered so far:

Undercarriage
1. Steering Cover and Bush - Both sides
2. Lower Arm Bush - Both sides
3. Tie Rod End - Both sides
4. Engine Oil Sump Leaking
5. Gear Box Oil Sump Leaking
6. Holes in the exhaust pipes
7. Axle Oil needs replacing
8. Absorbers - All 4.

Exterior
1. Front Grill - Patah
2. Door Handle - Driver Side
3. Bodywork (Left side - Side skirt pecah, Front bonnet dented) & New Paint Job
4. All rubbers for the windows and doors

Engine Bay
1. Fuse Box Cover
2. Bonnet Cover
3. Relay for signal light - (Kaki relay dah patah)

Interior
1. OBC Display - What is the cost of one OBC unit from a Kedai Potong?
2. Air Cond Dial Panel - Can i convert using the digital from 328 model?
3. Rattling Glove Box
4. Carpets
5. Fuel gauge - sometimes it doesn't work.
6. Meter lighting (temp gauge) - gelap

From the OBC
The OBC shows the following checks:
1. Coolant Level
2. Brake Circuit
3. Washer Level

Issues:

1. The previous owner changed the coolant and engine oil before handing over the car to me. when i check, both (Washer & Coolant) are at the marked level. What's the issue here actually? is it the sensors?

2. The warning lights for the tranny went on every time i floored the throttle. After restarting the engine it will disappear. This happens everytime i floored the throttle. The warning light doesn't appear under normal driving conditions. What is the issue here? Is it the pressure regulator or because of the tranny oil leak?

I'm putting aside around 12k to rebuild the car to run in acceptable condition. Do you all think it is enough? The car is a bargain due to its condition. Also hoping that you all can recommend to me a few good and decent priced "kedai potong", part shops and mechanic in KL & JB.

Hoping to hear your comments and replies.

Hello Haqim....congrats on your new ride.

I know that this current thread is extremely long and the page count might put you off a bit. Who wouldn't be? But all the information you seek can be found if you take the time to look through the other pages and also make use of the forum's search function.

If every new member were to ask the same question we would be covering it over and over and over and over again till no end.

So look through the forum and you will find everything you need. There is a thread which lists all the reputable workshops in Klang Valley. I believe there is also another thread that lists the chopshops in and surrounding KL.

Trust me, you will find more valuable information in those threads if you take the time to go through them.

cheers.

I have not checked the car throughly but here are the list of problems i have encountered so far:

Undercarriage
1. Steering Cover and Bush - Both sides --> RM 80
2. Lower Arm Bush - Both sides --> rm 100 each
3. Tie Rod End - Both sides --> rm 180 each
4. Engine Oil Sump Leaking --> gasket would be around rm 150
5. Gear Box Oil Sump Leaking ---> major work here as it maybe the flywheel gasket
6. Holes in the exhaust pipes ---> welding work depends highly on the size and son
7. Axle Oil needs replacing --- > about rm 40
8. Absorbers - All 4. --> highly depends on what brand you're looking at ...blistien yellow may cost you somewhere 3~4K

Exterior
1. Front Grill - Patah -- RM 300
2. Door Handle - Driver Side -- rm 100
3. Bodywork (Left side - Side skirt pecah, Front bonnet dented) & New Paint Job -- new paint job will set you around rm 3.5K and above
4. All rubbers for the windows and doors -- this will set you around 2K

Engine Bay
1. Fuse Box Cover -- rm 350 and very difficult to source it
2. Bonnet Cover -- rm 380
3. Relay for signal light - (Kaki relay dah patah) -- cheap at most would be somewhere around rm 20 or so

Interior
1. OBC Display - What is the cost of one OBC unit from a Kedai Potong? -- rm 300 or so
2. Air Cond Dial Panel - Can i convert using the digital from 328 model? -- yup you can convert it but it would cost you a little more
3. Rattling Glove Box -- need to re-do this or live with it ...
4. Carpets -- about rm 200
5. Fuel gauge - sometimes it doesn't work. --- a whole meter would cost you around rm 350 or so
6. Meter lighting (temp gauge) - gelap -- need to replace some bulbs there
