e36 parts & maintenance

hi all,

I've been driving my e36 around for a few months now and I loved every second of it. Then it happened.

just 2 days ago, my car suddenly started dying on me at traffic stops and yesterday it got so bad that it dies when the car is in motion. Today's the worst, the car won't even start now.

took the car to BMW specialist shop yesterday and he said that that the problem was with the AFM (Air Flow Meter). he said that i could still drive but there'll be intermittent breakdowns. I'm like "wt...."

I'm a car idiot so if anybody out there would be so kind as to advise me on:
1. where i can buy (or if anybody reading has) a AFM. 318i, 97' M43
2. is it truly an AFM problem? could it be a hole in the tubing?

Better buy a good 2nd hand unit. Brand new ones cost a bomb.

1. Castrol 10w60x2 - rm165x1 powertech hulu kelang (one from gymkhana)
2. Oil filter - rm17 (BA ss2)
3. Motul Rbf660 brake fluid - rm110x2 (exoticmods)
4. Labour - rm80

Its that time again. Did my servicing every 3k miles. This time around also pump out the old brake fluid and replaced it with Motul rbf660. Result was fantastic. During HPC was out for more than 5laps and braking hard without any fade at all. Used to feel spongy by the 3rd lap.

Try to service the AFM first, it can be done. Do check out this thread:-

Bilstein HD(Black) - Front RM676 Rear RM350
Damper (50 + 60) - RM110
Guide Support(top mount) Front = RM150 (Lamforder)
Guide Support Rear = RM187 (Ori BMW)
Damper cover =16 + 36 = RM52

Isn't the HD yellow?

Im driving E36 325i.
My car is slow pickup and the gear is slipped somewhere.
I can't go more than 60km/j. Adoyaiii. Letih.
Is it my car is having problem with gear box or computer box?
Anybody please advise.

My 2009 Maintenance Costs

In 2009 my car ran over 16000km.

My service costs has been as follows:-

i) Jan- I changed my brake pads & sensors (F/R) and ATE Disk (R) & Valve Cover Gasket which with parts and labour costed me RM1228, Wiper Blade-RM40, Fog Lamp(R)-RM135

Total RM1403

ii) Feb- Wheel Alignment- RM45

iii)April-Selector Shaft Seal+ Labour - RM122

iv) May- Battery Din 66(MF)- RM342

v) June- F/R Body Seal- RM275

vi)July- Service my car as follows:-

Mobil 1 (Carrefour) RM149- RM298
Anti Freeze (AB) 1.5l -RM51.44
Oil Filter(RM30)+ Labour(RM38)

Most probable cause should be the wheel bearing. Have it checked with your mechanic. He should know better.

If you would take the time to look back at the previous pages in this thread I'm sure someone would have listed the price.

Anyway I've yet to change mine so I don't know how much it is but if I'm not mistaken it's not expensive. They last pretty long anyway but just to be safe have your mechanic do a visual check every time you send your car for a service.

they seem to last forever actually, depending on usage la... i change as and when needed
