gearbox rebuild prices tend to vary on what they need to change hence the price range from 3-5k. can go even higher if you need to change the torque converter.

To my fellow e36 fanatics,

This post was started to be a useful source of price comparison for the parts and maintenance costs of e36. Over time, it has grown to be quite useful, with many pricing from different suppliers.

Inevitably, over time, it has grown and has also collected the odd chatter here and there.

So, to revert back to the original purpose of the thread to preserve its usefulness as a reference, please refrain from idle chit chat which is not related to e36 maintenance costs, including to list just a few :

1. newbie intro - belongs to the newbie intro section
2. having problem w car - belongs to the relevant technical section
3. workshop pros and cons- belongs in the workshop thread (yes, there is one)
4. opinons and angst about why e36 is expensive to maintain - we hear your pain, do start another thread and we'll all moan about it there.

OK?

For newbies, please read the instructions in each section before posting. We appreciate your enthusiasm, but please follow the forum do's and dont's.

Your cooperation will ensure the threads are not diluted and remain well-organised for the benefit of all members.

Thanks for your cooperation.

I will start deleting non-relevant posts shortly.

Noted. But as a newbie, these threads cut right to the heart of the matter - how often does the e36 bimmer go woring and how much does it cost to fix it, and how the workshops are rated - all in one place!

I'll ditto that.

I've read through this 50+ pages and information are bits and pcs all over. The hassle of scribbling down the cost!:D Some questions begging for answers.

1. Does the club have any recommended workshops?

2. Where to get parts? There is some truth in what u guys say that the parts are better obtained elsewhere - cheaper by 50%!

3. Is there any mechanics who is experienced enough (and willing too) for me to haul along for car inspections? How can I get hold of them?

4. How to judge a 3series is well maintained apart from receipts?

Thanks in advance!:)

back to basics.... did this on fri .
it was just supposed to be the regular
ATF change but upon jacking up the car
& dismantling the sump.....
( BTW , mine is stock standard 318I )

1. Auto filter RM60
2. ATF ; 5L RM140
3. Auto Sum Gasket - big RM45
4. Auto Sum Gasket - small RM35
5. Workmanship + check solenoild valve RM45
( upon checking - glad to know all my
valves are working fine )
6. Power steering boot ( Front right only) RM28
7. Gear box mounting RM70
8. Propeller shaft rubber coupling RM120
9. Workmanship RM60

Just wonder and to get info...

How often you guys change the axel oil and change the brake fluid?

So far, from reading this forum, some change gearbox oil between 40k-60k. But do we really need to change axel oil often since the workload is not that heavy like gearbox?

had my car for 2 years - never change . let me ask my mechanic for his opinion .
i trust him - not the type thay will ask you to change everything between the earth & the moon !

who knows mana servis centre at melaka yg ok kire spare parts senang cari...

the damage after 4 days of stay in workshop;

Regular service (engine oil, oil filter, spark plugs)
Power Steering hose
Eibach installation
Ignition switch harness
some idle valve in engine bay
Some rewiring works
Change a signal/repeater's relay

RM600.00 in total.

errr...no answer meh...? no body change the fluid? cant be true ...

the reason you probably didnt get an answer is because you are putting this in the wrong thread. this thread clearly states that only postings of your cost of maintenance is allowed, and not for discussion. if you had posted this in the correct thread, you will most likely get more comments.

E36 parts and maintenance

My turn.. Change date 14nov2006

1.Steering rack(used) RM510 + oil n labour.
2.Air cond condenser blower fan motor (used oem) RM230 + labour.

Total Bill:RM740

recall someone asked about the axle oil . my mech said it's every 20k as mention ed in the service check list . can anyone help to verify this ?

I suggest that from now, eveybody who does not have their model number in their signature/avatar to pls state it.
Makes a difference to prices if its a 318 or 325/328.
Also will help if you post which work shop you did the work in.
