Vacuum hose = $140

Drive shaft bearing thingy covered by rubber (had to hoist up the whole car to locate it in the middle; it was this item that was causing that a squeaking sound that was earlier attributed to brake disc.) = $170

ng auto is as good as m speed, and price is reasonable. owner ng is a car electricals expert as well, and is an offroad enthusiast, so quite handy to have around if something conks out in your 4wd or suv.

There are many components involved when rebuilding a gearbox. How much it would cost would also depend on which parts were changed, whether new or 2nd hand parts were used among other things.

So price alone does not indicate whether the rebuild was reasonable or expensive,

agreed with your comments mate...

there are gearbox specialist who only charges RM 2,500 for gearbox replacement with a 6 mths guarantee. RM 3,000 for a complete rebuild with a change of any broken parts with a 6 mths G as well. Now this is reasonable.

anyway, for my cost, the only new parts were the gearbox repair kit that comes with the springs, clucth, gasket...etc. two of the broke gears were 2nd hand.

best option will be get your quotation for any major repairs and visit your car as frequent as possible. even though your own closes friends workshop...

this is out of my own experience...

bought my machine in Jan 2006, up to date, spent more than RM 20k lah bro... if would have been smarter and did not trust so called "friends", would have safed at leat 40% to 50% of that total amount...

however the driving pleasure is just worth while...

what about you buddy?

2. Conversion cost to fit it to e36 - RM 500

4. Superblue racing brake fluid - RM 65
5. Front windscreen plastic wiper covers (Left n right) - RM 130
6. Bosch wipers - RM 100

8. Rear springs rubber mounts (Left and right - 4pcs) - RM32/each
9. Oo, almost forgot, excess bagage penalty for MAS from KL to MYY for the brakes - RM 80 (nego from RM 160) heh..

Total for August : RM 5083...dang!

Tension$

Was having this squeaking sound in the past few weeks, so hopped over to Naidu to get it fixed.

It was the drive belt and the pulley bearings that were worn out. They are located just behind the radiator in the E36, 6 potter. Left RM388 poorer.

Tensioner pulley = RM145
Tensioner Elements = RM78
Fan belt = RM165

The el-cheapo belt at RM40 won't last and contribute to the squeaks as it wears out, so the one I got was as original and as lasting as you can get. parts sourced from Bavarian Auto stockist in SS2, PJ.

BTW, I sometimes record car noises to help the mechanic better diagnose the problem. perhaps, it would help if such audio clips can be posted on the club forum to aid those facing similar issues.

what do u say, Mr Admin?

P/S: Naidu is shorthanded since one of his workers left. He's looking for an experienced chap in air-cond service. Better still if the fella knows general car servicing.

Just changed my steering rack. RM 750 inclusive of parts and labour.

i kena 5.4k to overhaul and found out can be done within 3k. optimum are nice guys, now i send my ride there anyway. however get an estimate/quotation bro...
