e36 parts & maintenance

Just had my 5-speed ZF Auto transmission completely overhauled at CN Auto Taman Sri Gombak and it costs me RM3850 (labour and parts). Very surprised with many parts inside the gearbox and all changed to new one. Now car runs very smooth.

I have been scouting around many workshops, and for benefits of forumers I strongly recommend this workshop as the price is reasonable example if you change bush, they just charge minimal for the 'press' work unlike other shop that charge press work per bush.

For Aircond, my workshop is Naidu in PJ as he is good and charge reasonably.

hi guys, received from AB on services packages for E36 and also e-mail....is this for real or gimmicks regards onfax

I think its legitimate..

i noticed a big banner outside AB glenmarie the other day, and they're doing promos especially for E36. Service..etc. I suppose its just a marketing plan to try and get more E36 owners to do servicing at their centres.

symptoms that i had :

poor mileage;
poor acceleration;
+ had strange sound coming from the engine (esp the VANOS unit)
sounded like marbles being moved around in it
Sorry bro,

but vanos is supposed to sound like that.

I do agree with Lee that's how VANOS may sound like, but i think the car's loss of power was more evident than ever

+ 'knocking' sound was more pronounced before changing of the unit

But not excessively loud.... anyway, an easy check to see if the vanos need servicing.... place your finger tip on the vanos unit. If you can feel excessive vibrations, time to service. The vanos unit on my ex-E36 was serviced and the noise was minimal.

...the cost of maintenance is absolutely irrelevant to having the car perform at its best...For the last 10 years, Auto Bavaria have done an excellent job of maintaining the car when it comes to the usual 'no greens LED' service....perhaps the brake pads/discs, tyres and the shocks are replaced by a third party mechanic at an economical cost but everything else is Auto Bavaria...And now at 139,830 KM of use, no problems, no odd sounds and the car performs pretty much like when I first bought the car.....
;)

If you had maintained your car at a reputable workshop outside, you may well have save enough money to get a 328... or at least get some decent rims...

Ahh, yes. The Vanos guru has spoken.

Please lend me your ears and fingertips to measure the level of noise and vibration the next time I suspect a fault w my vanos... no need for me to go all the way to a workshop and use the modic to check for vanos fault codes.

don't la say like that kekeke some ppl prefer stock standard mah.. for me the minute I got my car the 1st 2 things I changed was the rims and suspension. Can't stand the cave hole in between the rims and fenders and the floating feeling when I go around corners.
