try to buy parts yourself rather then asking them, its always the case they charge to much. I will never do my repair unless emergency cases, make sure I get my own parts first even oil filter, they will charge close to double the price. sorry learn from lesson by them also.

Oh yeah, please share your pain with everyone ... Just post your maintenance cost here :D

All in all, I think we are fortunate to be able to service our BMWs here in Malaysia. While I was in Munich recently, the charge is 90Euros for the mechanic to just visit you at the breakdown site. The exchange rate is rm4.66 to 1Euro. Diagnosis and actual repairs will of course be additional. I see some members (me included) occasionally get FOC labour.

(ICEMAN 13 @ Jul 10 2005, 06:38 PM)

Cost RM190 a piece plus RM50 labor at Sam's.
Tip : If you buy the part from BA or OrtoJaya etc., it's only about RM125.

ahhhaaa seems like SAM is getting higher on it's price these days ....

plus toll charges and fuel ...... !!! [/b][/quote]

Just replaced the 2 engine mountings on my e36, which has never been changed for last 9 years. Feels a world of difference now. The engine feels exceptionally smooth especially when starting ..... no more shudder ... :)

So much difference?

Not really lah, Ice .... :) It's common practice for workshops to charge higher for parts as compared to own sourcing. Also Sam is the only mech who highlighted the vibration to me, so I think it's fair that he should carry out the work at that point.

His service quality is flawless too and I certainly can't put a price on that ....

Symptom
Driver's side lock pin does not move when alarm is armed. Manually pushing it up or down will still activate the other 3 doors' central locks, but fails with alarm remote.

Cause
Weak central locking actuator & faulty lock mechanism.

Cost
New actuator RM185
Used lock mechanism RM120 (new is RM380, but nobody carries stock)
Replaced rear diff oil (RedLine) RM55 per bottle (1.3L needed)
Labor RM80

hi koryong, how much work involved in changing the mountings?
I think it should be slightly more than 2 hours.

If i can remember .

Changed mine at sam's 2 yrs ago . Still good eh ..

I guess .

Now i am due to change my oil sump gasket and flywheel oilseal.

Will post the verdict once done . Probably get it done this saturday at sam's

cheers :D

On a 318, it's quick & simple - only 15 minutes. Lots of empty space to work.

But on a 6-pot, the time-consuming part is likely bolting off & on due to the tight space for hands to move around.

Changed my camshaft sensor today on a e36 328i, took me 30mins...cost RM290/= from FD (ori), workmanship RM0/=
