I still remember how those Golf GTIs performed during our spirited drive to Ulu Yam in Sept 07. We have Golf GTI, MCS and E90 during this event. So nice to see those Golf GTI....

90% of the time it's the driver, not the car.

Do you recall an incident during one of those cruises when there was this so-called mighty Volvo T5 passed almost all the cars.

And how did he do it? Over took all the cars on the shoulder on the road.

Yeah, you are right too.... sometimes it's the driver that makes the difference

I really fancy new innovation, the DSG looks interesting, not sure how it performs on the road application. Anyone, here who can share the experience of owning one?:listen:

I just watched the latest Fifth Gear, Golf GTI MkV was featured as the use car bargain. Wonder there's any used model available here, and whether competitively priced.:top:

I read the latest Golf GT, should be MkV. It comes with a supercharger for low torque, and switching between a Turbo for power. Now thats the 1st, and sound interesting, but not sure about maintenance for both tech tho in 1 car. :102: Funnily, its also design for good fuel consumption in mind. Its only a 1.4cc. Wonder available here in VW MY, & does it priced below the GTI?

Hmmm.. am I catching the VW bugs like you, OSF? But, I do have reservation over a front drive hot hatch. Couldn't imagine taking a corner on 3 wheels only.

Not the first... Nissan did that with the March 20 years ago... of course, the technology is much better now..
see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/March_Superturbo

In 1988, Nissan launched a limited 10,000 unit run of its homologated Nissan 1989 March Superturbo (EK10GFR/GAR). Both this and the 1988 March R (EK10FR) featured the same highly advanced sequential compound charged (supercharger plus turbocharger) engine in an all-aluminium straight-4 930 cc 8-valve 4 cylinder Nissan MA MA09ERT unit that produced 110 PS JIS (81 kW/108 hp) at 6400 rpm. This car came with either a 3-speed automatic or 5-speed manual gearbox with viscous limited slip differential, as well as options such as air conditioning and electric mirrors. The March Superturbo still holds the crown for the fastest production March in Nissan's history, with factory performance figures of 7.7 seconds to go from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) and 15.5 seconds to run a quarter mile. It has a top speed of 180 km/h (112 mph).

I have tested power with a Golf GTi before.. knowing very well that the car has an edge over my 325i. The thing is that it wasn't much faster on a rolling run than my car. Each time the road cleared up (we were doing around 60-70km/h and he punched it and I punched it, he would get about 1-2 cars initial jump on me instantaneously, but then after that as both cars are dragging it out the 325i just kept on the GTI's pace. So I assumed that that GTi was stock la.

Fron standstill, no need to think. The GTi would definitely get a much better run due to the DSG (although I havent tried my E90 in this scenario). I've driven the GTi and know it'll be much better off the line. Also Ken has tested his 330i vs. his wife's GTi from the toll, and even the 330i looses out. But I think the wife's GTi is chipped tho.

After passing by The Curve's Volkswagen showroom, I finally make time to try the Golf GTI 2 months ago! After test driving it, I felt that it's really good in a way that there's almost no jerk when the gear shifts and that 200hp is really powerful. Moreover, the breaking is really reactive and the steering has a nice weight and surprisingly precise. 17" wheels, violet speedometer and DSG gearbox are wonderful accessories. After speeding up to 170km/h at Penchala Link before taking a U-turn and back to the showroom, the salesman offered me 15k off the 200k if I purchase the Golf GTI with the manufacture date of 2007.

The reason why I didn't buy it is that Volkswagen is not really a established company in Malaysia and there not much service centers around...
Please do correct me if I have made a mistake.:top:

i believe the service availability and technical capability are no worse than BMW, at least in klang valley.. Moreover, being CBU, the quality could probably be 'better'? I have owned my GTi for more than a yr with 40k km clocked with no issues... definitely worth considering.. :top:

dude, i think i was there during the sept 07 drive.. the gti, being FWD is almost dummy proof.. very easy and forgiving to push once u get used to it.. chasis is equivalent to mcs in terms of rigidity, but not as nimble and light.. i heard the 3-door gtis are even better! :smokin:

Wow! Have you sent your car to service?
I would love to own a Golf GTI in about 2 to 3 years time. :top:

3-door GTi would definitely win me if it's available here...but then again, Mk VI shud be around the corner already in 2009/10, right ?
woah, adliz, how can u chalk up 40k km in over 1+ year? i can't nvr get any of my car above 12k in a year !!

Anyone tested the new Golf 1.4 TSI before? It is using the lastest engine. Turbo + supercharger + injection. Perfomance figures looks good too..not to mention the fuel economy.

Do you have any photos on how does the MK6 look like?

hey shiang horng..i think either first 2 pics shud be it...though bit sketchy at the moment, saw couple of versions over the net. the 3rd pic is Polo GTi.. :)
but from what i gather, the form-factor for next Mk VI is similar to Mk V... (e.g. Mini Cooper, R50 vs R56)

It'll be a different story with a GTI. My travelling distance is only 40km back and forth to my workplace but i still manage to clock 33k km in a year.
The torque, the 260kph top speed, the dsg BURP, it just worth every penny that you spend on this car.

The first time i test drove the car, i had three sleepless night and the fourth day i just had to bring along my cheque book and sign on the dotted line to place my deposit. Why the 2/3 years wait then?
I was actually recommended by my friend to test drive the car which i said to him "what the hell, a car like that cost rm200k!" After much persuasion from him, i eventually went to menara UOA for a test drive. The moment i went into the showroom, my wife gave me that look :stupid:"u seriously want to test that car?". And guess what, as i step on the gas, she was the first to be impressed.

2 of my friends actually kena poisoned and bought the car after a joy ride in mine :driver:

ps: Picture? Nothing much lar just a stock looking black gti with 95% tint. Adliz should post up his ride. hehe...

agreed that golf gti is a nice car to drive...
i use the nkve highway from kota damansara to duta toll twice a day, average daily driving speed is at least 210
