120 that bad? am seriously looking for a car for my mum.. 120i, golf gti, a-class, 320, x3 3.0, a4.. she doesnt know what to get.. i'm racunning her to get the gti or the 120i.. something i can play around with!! hehe.. at 200k (gti) vs 175k (2nd hand 120i), is the 120 that bad?

adam, would she/you consider a Volvo S60 with MTE tuning?
Goes pretty hard, harder than my car when it hits max boost.

The SE Asia MTE distributer is just located in S'pore.

i'd go for the Golf GTi WITH DSG...this is the only case where i'd choose an auto over a manual.the DSG shifts faster and harder than the manual.its the obvious choice.
a friend has one..his GTi is pushing close to 280bhp with just some exhaust, intake and ECU work.gave my STi a good run too!!! damn..and the dude is running on 19" BBSs too!!!!

anyone know how much a turbo Jetta DSG is selling for???? dunno la,having some very nice thoughts and ideas for the VW nowadays.very very nice car indeed..

I vote :

GTi for power esp for town usage, good "sleeper" car ( not red version )
120 for assured service backup n German reliability
MCS for overall fun, fashion statement, ICON

U can guess which i will buy if I have a windfall.....

Seriously, I think Mini Cooper is made for stewardess, mistresses, midgets and gaymen. No doubt the JCW version is pretty fast, but its still a gay-car for me :)

I have test driven the 120i, wouldn't say it's a bad car. The sport seats are great, the handling is great, the engine is very revvy and responsive. But at that price (new), the GTi is better all round.

Granted you can get some great used cars for RM200k but that's not really comparing apple to apple. For RM200k we can also get an E36 M3 AND an E30 M3. I think it's only fair to compare new car against new car.

How about botak gayman - is there a special edition MCS for this sub-species???

Bottom line is the 120i is a little overpriced. What kinda target segment is it aiming for? Young adults below 25? WIth a little extra dosh, the E90 320i will be a better bet.

You mean GAYMAN Special Edition?? Extra features - quad pipes (to relieve constipation), Carbon fiber roof spoiler (to keep the rear end down when the engine is pumping 220hp), carbon fiber hood scoop (to suck more), smaller pulley (can blow harder), Big Brake Kit and etc.....:D

well if the DSG is a great as they say, I would have to give it a test drive.
hmm... where can I go to get a test drive. And I mean a spirited one, not one of those drive around the block test drive where the car barely goes over 80 kmh.

Yes, you should give the DSG a go. Let's see if we can arrange anything for the HH Soul'd Out chapter.

Dont think its a problem since one of our mate's the other half is working with VW.:) :)

Yup, DSG is awesome...read more about it dude.

DSG maybe awesome but is it reliable and "tahan"? The SMGs of BMW had a few issues....

if they're confident to sell dsg in usa, be sure it'll tahan lasak otherwise kena sue until foo lat-man..

you know why vw can offer these pricing? look here at the cif values
http://www.customs.gov.my/html/cbu2006warta.htm
and do your own comparisons.
tax is +30%, +80%, +10% cumulative on 2000cc car.
49K CIF is definately not the true car cost!!! but tax payable is based on 49K
so total tax payable is only abt 78k

then look at the 120i CIF values and also the cooper s values...

you wanna know the performance car bargain is in malaysia?

its the M6 at $1mil. Do the comparisons overseas and in particular in relation to the M5 and other perf cars here and see if you geddit.

+1.............

AB is selling MCS Cheqmate only at RM238K, regular MCS not available at the moment. So Golf GTI at RM200k looks pretty attractive, comparatively!

I believe you would have bought the GTi instead if it was selling at 200k previously :)

We were looking at RM215k (from the listed price of RM225k) to close the deal previously, only to be spoiled by the salesman offering measly RM2k discount. Must thank him now though!:D

Yup! if it was 200k then i would be driving 1 now.
To be honest the Golf mkV is indeed a really good car. Its the best right now in its class for 200k. good overall car to have. Fast & yet comfortable enough.
So who is gonna get one? I may trade my MCS in when i get bored with it.
