After reading the above in your earlier posting - Very Farnee how the final three came with 2 Minis - I wonder how she changed her mind?!

Traveller - one piece of advise when it comes to further trying to get your lady "friend".

BEST TO ASK HER GET THE FRENCH CAR otherwise she will haunt you each time the Mini coughs.

TRUST ME. In end, its her money, her ride and HER IMAGE. Unless u r more than a "friend-lar":listen:

GOOD LUCK!

Haha, after the test drive, she really like the Mini... now she says it's kinda funny that the one car she thought she wouldn't be interested in, is now a prime candidate for her to buy! ;)

Final decision is up to her now, so once the 207cc test drive is made, she will choose. Unless the Peugeot sales people screw up and don't get a test car available, in which case the Mini would win by default (she won't buy a car without a test drive).

Thanks for the offer, but my friend is only interested in a new car. She said today, she might consider a pre-reg car, but that's the furthest she would go.

Took that into consideration. The car's practically brand new. I wouldn't have suggested otherwise. =)

Well, it's time to bring this chapter to a close. A winner has been chosen.

Against all odds at the beginning, the final choice is the MINI One :top:

Car has been booked.

Thank you all for your advice and comments.

Looking forward to more club drives now that I think I can also persuade my friend to join in with her new car :)

check out the latest suzuki SX 4 ..may b she,ll like it ...and very much lower than her budget , if i,m not mistaken below 90k..

sorry for late reply ,

Out of curiosity, test drove the Peugeot 207cc (approximately RM155k, new batch, lower spec than the original higher-end demo model brought in: no GPS, and lacking few bells & whistles) )recently. The car has the same 1.6L engine as the MINI Cooper.

Comparing it with the MINI (Cooper/One):

Ride comfort: 207cc has a harder ride (suspension is harder/sportier), but otherwise ok.

Noise level: 207cc engine noise significantly louder than the MINIs. Insufficient soundproofing?

"Pickup" ability going uphill: Felt similar to the MINI One (1.4L), with perhaps a tiny tad more power. MINI Cooper wins hands-down. The extra weight of the 207cc really hurt it here. Nonetheless, it should be ok compared with most cars out there. It only feels underpowered if comparing it with the E90s or similar levels.

Smoothness: MINI wins hands down, probably due to the 6-speed gearbox. 207cc has a 4-speed gearbox (tiptronic, so its similar to the MINI but without the extra gears). The lack of the 2 gears made the ride jerkier, and probably partly accounts for the higher fuel consumption.

Space: MINI wins hands down. The rear seats in the 207cc are only fit for shopping bags or backpacks. You have to be a contortionist to fit back there.

Fuel consumption: MINI One & Cooper wins easily (according to internet research).

Other Bits & Pieces:
1. 207cc has a very light steering, reminds me of the Hondas (Civic/Accord). MINI steering while lighter than a E90, feels like a BMW.
2. Dash space - MINI has a lot of storage space
3. Bells & whistles - the way data is displayed on the ICE, speedometer, etc. just feels more luxurious/easier to read on the MINI.

Conclusion:
MINI One/Cooper is a much better VFM buy. For about a few thousand more (MINI One, promotion price RM163k, regular price RM175k), the MINI One is a better buy for a car with similar power yet lower consumption and smoother driving characteristics. The fact that the MINI Cooper has the same engine as the 207cc, shows that the engine isn't everything. The MINI's soundproofing and 6-speed gearbox makes a huge difference in the driving experience.

yes the 2008 mazda 6 (especially the hatch) is pretty stunning and loaded with quite good specs for its price, though doubt chicks would dig it. but if you're looking for something 2 doorish, with french flair and easy to drive, then check out the new 308 gt (rm170ish new) in naza. if your friend's hot, she's gonna be even hotter in it. if she's looking at stowing away some reserves for a handbag, then there's also the focus 2.0 sport hatch that's going for about rm110k (for unregistered 'new' 2007 stock). ooh.. then there's also the fiat bravo gt (rm135k new; rm110ish used).. absolute champion that one.

minis are starting to look a little dated. but if you want, my cooper s is still (technically) up for sale (http://www.italiaauto.net/viewtopic.php?t=10587)
