Yup! if it was 200k then i would be driving 1 now.
To be honest the Golf mkV is indeed a really good car. Its the best right now in its class for 200k. good overall car to have. Fast & yet comfortable enough.
So who is gonna get one? I may trade my MCS in when i get bored with it.

Price for a near new unit bought from WALD should be quite attractive now, did you contact your God Dad?:D

Tsk, tsk... such sacrilegious talk. The Archbishop Bangle, of the Order of Spinning Propeller, shall not be pleased.

The holy citadel, Four Cylinders in Munich, shall come out with an edict decreeing that "thou shall not bow down or worship the false idol of Volkswagen."

To do so would invite hail & brimstone upon thee chariots.

This might be a little late.... BUT Bro you CRACK ME UP!:D :D :D

i'd go for the Golf GTi WITH DSG...this is the only case where i'd choose an auto over a manual.the DSG shifts faster and harder than the manual.its the obvious choice.
a friend has one..his GTi is pushing close to 280bhp with just some exhaust, intake and ECU work.gave my STi a good run too!!! damn..and the dude is running on 19" BBSs too!!!!

anyone know how much a turbo Jetta DSG is selling for???? dunno la,having some very nice thoughts and ideas for the VW nowadays.very very nice car indeed..

Does your friend happen to stay in damasara ka?
that day i got a serious whooping from a golf GTi... the bugger was playing me...

uhh i think he's staying in Bangsar.his is the only white GTi with 19"BBS alloys in Malaysia.watch out,he's a player.. fast car.

I saw a white ABT Golf GTI before, single digit number plate, also with 19" rims but not BBS. ABT rims.........

these cars are fast gaining notoriety..very very fast indeed, and most didn't even know what hit them.probably cuz VWs are an unknown entity as far as performance cars are concerned here in Malaysia.many boy racers in their Hondas and souped-up Protons will be inpleasantly surprised by these sleeper specimens.
don't say u were not forewarned..

I believe with the Merdeka sale, the GTi is RM190k ( including RM8k over trade)....great buy!

Seriously, I think Mini Cooper is made for stewardess, mistresses, midgets and gaymen. No doubt the JCW version is pretty fast, but its still a gay-car for me :)

I must agree with you guys. MCS is suitable for those pussy and not for PenI5 (Unless you're GAY).Golf GTI mkv Rulez.:top:

Yup, go have a look around.

You get a Golf GTi for RM200k with dealer warranty, brand new and current model with proper documentation.

Not like some parallel importers with Labuan AP's and etc and underdeclared tax. Im not 100% sure but i think the customs can still come and seize your car after you've purchased it even 1 or 2 years down the road.

RM200k will not get you a current model Evo IX or STi v9. Will get you maybe a 2003 or 2002 350z but 2004 ones are around RM220k unless something's up.

A friend's Golf GTi with stage 2 mods(Filter, exhaust, re-chip etc) was doing 300whp.
300whp for a little front wheel drive hatch with the quick shifting DSG gearbox is plenty if you ask me.

He gave me a hell of a run in his Golf and me in a 472awhp 34 GTR. I even had Tein HA coilovers and him just Eibach springs and standard shocks.

Everytime a bend would come, he would just dissapear. Cant say the same for the straights but the car handles really well.

Essentially, i think it comes down to the preference of the buyer and his needs.
The Golf is a great all rounder and practical performance car. Try driving a 350-400whp Evo or STi to work everyday and you start looking at the Golf under a different light being able to offer all that power and practicality together.

Unless of course you're loaded and then cars like the Maserati Quattroporte or Cayenne Turbo is no problem..

Even the Audi A4 2.0t is quite a fast car.. With the Multitronic CVT, it really gives the impression of speed/power.

Anyhow, i think that the Golf is an awesome car and in comparison with the 120i and Mini Cooper, it really blows them away.

But to compare it with cars like the Evo and Sti which are parallel imported and cost heaps more for the current model than the dealer imported brand new warrantied Golf isn't fair.

Here's the picture after the above said run. You can still see the grin on his face. :)

Interesting writeup K3nny... I heard one of our long time members eeric recently sold off his 275hp red Golf GTi and bought an Subaru Impreza S204. Will be good to get his input on the differences btw these 2 awesome cars! Previously he had a heavilly modded MCS and a GT3 as well... Sigh some guys have all the luck!

E46Fanatic: Mmm.. The S204 in standard form is an awesome car..

Not to mention the fact that the supply is limited would make it exclusive as hell.. Haha

However, if you are chasing high horsepower and you're going to rebuild the engine with aftermarket parts, change the turbo, suspension set up rims etc etc, is the premium btwn the regular V9 STi and the S204 worth it?

Afterall, most of the differences are going to be swapped out and that S204 exclusive colors can be sprayed on if you really like it that much..

As a standard car though with light mods, its a lovely car. Had the chance to ride in a stock standard one once and was awesome.

But it costs way more than 200K. You would be hard pressed to find a v9 STi for 200k.. And even then its parallel import and lacks warranty or a reputable dealer support.

Will be really interesting to hear a first hand experience from an owner of both these rides esp if its the same person! :)

Addendum: Yup.. some guys have all the luck.

*looks at the sky wondering what happened to equal distribution of luck.*

i seem to have been left out in the draw. Hehe
