Vacuum pump is no.2 in the diagram above..

The complete vacuum pump replacement instruction is here: http://tis.spaghetticoder.org/s/view.pl?1/07/09/91

I'm referring to the black cap underneath the vacuum pump. This cap will crack over time due to aging and coolant will seep out. Many E46 N42 and N46 suffered from this before. Apparently it's part of the header.. but my Haynes manual don't have, the online BMW TIS also don't have..

Yes it is a cover plate. Made of plastic and will crack over time. Coolant will seep out through the crack. I had mine changed it already and now so fa so good. Took 2-3 manhours to complete the job.

Thanks for the info. I'll talk to SC and see how they quote.. :48:

I wonder why PLASTIC?!!! yah.. yah.. weight saving.. :stupid:

Just spoken to Ingress.. Labor about RM2XX, the cover plate, they call it "back cover" comes with "tools" which I believe 2 O-rings which is about RM50 for the kit, and 2 bottles of coolant to replace since mine is due for coolant replacement at 60k km.. all in less than RM500.. the usual free car wash, vacuum, cheese cake, cappuccino all inclusive la.. half day job. What do you guys think?!

Meanwhile, just bought these.. RM300.. heh!.. :4:

AB, if their job carry a warranty , go for it bro. I did mine at half of the cost outside (including 2 bottle of BMW Coolant).

U think safe to take the car to Spore this weekend ka? No time to repair la. So far the leak has stop or rather pretty much slowed down, maybe the solidified coolant residual blocked the leakage. 2 weeks no need top up d. SC said they never see this plastic pecah and flew off, so I won't suffer sudden loss of coolant.

Suan Huat selling the cap RM38 only.. I'll try to take out the pollen filter the weekend after that and see if my hand can reach. Maybe I can pull it off at less than RM100, along with 2x1.5L of OE coolant..

Okay.. sudah beli.. RM38.. Now what?! :45:

The design of this is very farnee.. u see the metal sleeve on all the 4 screw holes, that will prevent over tightening and crack the plastic. The Plastic is thick and with a big-small O-ring inside. If the plastic can tahan, replacing the O-ring should suffice.. and there's a part code for it.. 11 53 7 505 657

Hope this is the screws: M6x25, size 10mm part code: 07 11 9 905 400, not Allen or Torx screw.. then I have the ring spanner for it.. if I can reach inside.. :4:

gotta question to ask on the E90...
how does one engage the intermittent wipers while driving? I don't seem be able to do so....
my findings thus far....
1 push up the stalk, continuous slow... another push up, continuous fast.. 1 pull down, single wipe..
press on the stalk button (green led comes on), and its auto wipe, where the speed varies with amount of rainfalls and speed....
played around with the dial on the stalk only adjust the wiper intermittent speed on stationery.
the sifus' insight is much appreciated!

The fixed interval wipe is only available for E90 that doesn't come with rain sensor. Those that comes with rain sensor, this fixed interval wipe has been replaced by your so called "press on the stalk button (green led comes on), and its auto wipe, where the speed varies with amount of rainfalls and speed...."

The dial on the stalk is supposed to set the sensitivity on the sensor but I find it utterly dumb.. :stupid:

I use PG Polymer wash shampoo which kind of coat the windscreen with the thin layer of polymer which acts like RainX, so I seldom use wiper.

Climate

in E90 32i Msport there is this menu 'climate' in iDrive, anyone know what is it for ?

hi, im sure its written in the user manual....i have not reach there yet. Just started reading.
Just learned how to start my e92, open the boot and other supposingly easy stuffs, which i failed to do so as i was really back dated from modern cars. lol

What is available in the option? I heard some commented their e90 remain cool despite parked under hot sun for hours. Can this be the work of this function? If it's true, best shut it off as it drains your expensive battery.

After surfing around, I think this is the function where you can set the ventilation on and off for certain period of time during which you park your car and turn the engine off. I tried it myself by setting the timer on at certain time and timer off at one hour later (you can set any time during the day). Before the timer off I notice a fan indicator near the air cond panel. As you said Bro Astroboy, its to keep the car cool while parking under the sun, but I did not feel the effect, may be too short the time set.

With the engine shut off, whatever left cool of the cooling coil can still be salvage by activating the blower for further heat exchange effect to bring the cabin temperature down. Once the cooling coil is heated, I doubt your compressor will kick in without running the engine.. so the heat exchange can only be with the external cool air. Still, I don't like the idea of unnecessary current draw to my battery when the engine is not running.

My 2007 E90 320i got "jit..jit..jit" sound behind the glove compartment when ever I accelerate, brake or take corner. No more sound when constant speed or stationary, or off the aircond. I am suspecting the blower fan bearing loose liao.. any similar experience to share?! all feedback welcome.. Thanks! :48:

Same scenario happened to my E90 few months ago, should be the ac blower as you said. Try to take out the blower, cleanup with vacuum cleaner, spread some WD-40. It works great on mine, the sound gone, work fine till now.

When you take out the blower, look at the dust on the fan, then you will know how important to keep our cabin clean all the times.

Dude, how to get the AC blower out? Need to dismantle the dash right? :13:

No need bro, just remove the lower panel under the glove box at passenger side, look up & you will see a black & round cover, thats AC blower. To dismantle the blower, NONE of screw need to be taken out, just push and rotate the blower. It seems pretty easy, but when come to re-install back the blower, you will scratch your head, not so simple! :17:

Btw, have PM you some detail steps...

I wonder the loud aircon noise i have (when turn to max mode) is also cause by ac blower or not???
