Now what.. 4 years and 8 months old, 79k km.

Oil cap leak?
Rocker cover gasket leak?
Vanos solenoid o-ring leak?
Intake/exhaust pulse generator o-ring leak?

_DSC0816.jpg

Also notice the heat exchanger gaskets leak..

Before pin pointing the exact leakage points, I clean the engine and monitor closely.. Ingress quoted RM900 to replace all the above seals including the vacuum pump o-ring. Parts RM4xx, labour RM4xx... total: RM900.

Bling ~ bling now..

RM900 for the replacement of the seal and o-ring at vacuum pump at an official dealer doesn't sound that bad at all. Of course it would be much cheaper at any specialist.

Do let us know the outcome. Mine is slightly over 4 years but higher mileage than yours (128kkm) but so far only a faulty oil filter rubber ring that caused a leak. Suspect the workshop gave very lousy oil filter. No warning signs on the OBC too *cross-fingers*.

Yes, those lousy fake oil filter o-ring harden and shrink very fast. I also kena before. If workshop decided to provide fake oil filter, I rather ask them don't replace my o-ring.

This morning I take torch light inspect, no leak wor.. 3 days after engine wash... continue to monitor.

The radiator fan blown the oil fume to the surrounding surface making it very difficult to locate the leak. But 1 thing for sure, the intake pulse generator o-ring [item 5] is intact.

I'm hoping the culprit is the Vanos solenoid o-rings which is a cheap and quick fix: http://tis.spaghetticoder.org/s/view.pl?1/07/09/72

Today all part shop closed for Merdeka.. gotta wait for tomorrow to get the seal.

Anyone know how much the part cost? There should be 2 seals per solenoid.

The old o-rings when taken out, it's harden and melts. When press diagonally, it cracks.. gosh! Original o-ring is 80k km in mileage, 56 months old.

This is the DIY video..

Below is what was quoted to me when I pulled up to a nearby authorised SC for inspection with the earlier oily engine. :13:

Just to share, I just did my ATF change last Saturday.. http://upgr8s.blogspot.com/2012/09/bmw-e90-diy-automatic-transmission.html

DSC_1104_thumb%25255B4%25255D.jpg

This is the 2nd change.. first change was when 40k km. Now 80k km.. the sump strainer will be replaced when 120k km.. :4:

ATF refill need to perform with the car level to the ground, I have no hoist, don't have 4 jack stands.. how to do it? Do we really need to dig a hole on the ground so we can crawl under the car? The question has finally been answered. Check out the link above. :4:

Question:

Do I top up the ATF to overflow with engine running? I have problem understanding the manual.. http://akpp-city.ru/pdf/6HP19_21_Catalog.pdf

It says:

Hehe.. there's always a price to pay when DIY.. often we make costly mistakes.. teaching and showing u is one thing but getting hands on can be quite a challenge.. but the satisfaction is truly priceless .. :4:
