I heard that the first few batches of E90 came with them. It's a plastic key u can keep in your wallet so in emergency, stick it into the spare key holder located in the glove box so that u can start the car

Isn't this dangerous then? Hence, does it mean any E90 key can be slotted in and start the car?

I thought there were electronics to enable the key to match the engine's immobilizer and then only start the car?

Am confused!

All E90 are push button ignition la. The plastic key is for open the driver door only. Relax.. :D

plastic key is the one refering to before pushing the ignition button, must cucuk the thing and press the pedal right...

i m curious about the "THIN" key for emegency?

This morning on the way to gym, the OBC showed outside temperature to be 1.5C... brrrr.... then the 'snow' symbol lighted up in OBC with audio chime warning. Was wondering what it's all about as this is the first time I encountered it. Then it came to me as the car was trying to alert me of potential frost/ice on the road, hence, to drive carefully on potential slippery road. Hmmm ... I'm impressed!

Also, do you guys rely on the tyre gauge in OBC to tell you of underinflated RFT? This morning was the first time I pumped in air to the RFT after owing it for 11 months. Were slightly underinflated around 190psi against recommended 210 psi.

You have a tyre guage in your OBC? Unless you have a foreign spec unit, the local CBUs and CKDs only have a RFI and not a TPMS system. An RFI will not detect actual tyre pressures, only relative underinflation in a tyre versus the rest. See this recent thread: http://www.bmwclubmalaysia.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19563&page=3

Also, why are you going 11 months before checking your tyres? Seriously? Maybe that's why your car told you it was snowing in protest? :)

Probably I'm confused RFI with tyre gauge. What is TPMS?

Yes... should pay more attention to the car but the problem is I hardly drive it. It's my wife who is driving it 95% of the time.

TPMS is Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, which means actual tyre pressure sensors are placed in the tyres, either valve or rim mounted. The real-time pressures are transmitted by low power radio waves to the OCB system. Fitted in certain markets, especially USA.

What we have is the RFI system (Run Flat Indicator) which is just using the wheel rotation sensors of the DCS system to monitor for wheel rotational differences between a low or flat tyre versus the other tyres. IMO it's not very reliable for picking up air loss because I've had one wheel go down to 29psi versus the others at 31 and 34psi (on my staggered setup) and yet the RFI wasn't triggered.

Keep in mind that even with RFI, you have to reinitiate the system each time you pump them up. To learn how to do it, see your manual. It's slighty different for iDrive cars.

In 11 months I would have checked my tyre pressures 44 times and balanced/aligned/swapped my wheels almost 4 times bro... ;)

TPMS is Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, it gives you an exact reading of your tyre pressure. Compulsory in the US of A at least, but not in M'sia.

RFI (I suppose Schwepps meant Run Flat Indicator) , or also known as FTM (Flat Tyre Monitor) monitors for pressure loss by comparing rotational speed of all four tyres.

Btw, I assume you do not live in M'sia? Becos you mentioned that the outside temparature showed 1.5 degrees??

At this time of the year, one would have to be north of the Arctic circle or on the Antarctic itself to see 1.5C temperatures. :) Maybe a sensor or system fault I reckon.

No lah... I'm in Melbourne. Lately, the mornings were very very cold but during the day it will go up to around 17C.

Mine comes with iDrive, will have to look up the manual then.

Wow, must pay more attention to my car then compared to your statistics! Paiseh..paiseh...

Wow beemerlover, never knew that Melbourne temperatures can hit 1.5C...interesting! Been there in winter before and it never dropped below 8C. Must go again soon as I love freezing temperatures. BTW, check your manual as who knows, Aussie spec may have TPMS...

It's quite easy to form certain routines when you have to. I check all the car tyres every Sunday morning and then take them one by one to fill up the tanks. Then there's no need to bother with any of the cars the whole week. I have to, because there's no one else in my household to do these things! ;)

Schwepps

The problem is, it's not even winter yet! Winter starts from June. Luckily, today's temperature are more decent with the low of 9C.

Ok, will check my manual.

Our E90s here are only fitted with the FTM. No TPMS. I have tested mine and I find that the FTM is very accurate.

By the way, I am very surprised to hear that you can get 1.5C in Melbourne!

my car mileage was 2600km, managed to hit 180km/h at KLIA highway this morning, suddenly a yellow radiator coolant sign came out. Should i top up the coolant from the spared tank myself OR send it back to AB tmrw, Any advise bro???

That morning was the coldest morning recorded in the month of May since 30 years!

was informed by "some people"... take picture of the speedometer n those can reach certain number can get prize...:top:

Best get it to a BMW SC nearby and get them to top up with their special BMW grade coolant and inspect if there's any leak.

Don't top up yourself.. WARRANTY VOID!!!:eek::eek:

:D :D :D
