Wow, havent been here for awhile n tons of interesting post. Yea, i do find my headlamps fogged too during rainy days but i goes away after awhile. And also, i have my engine oil changed a months back n its bloody expensive. The total bill came out about RM900 including 7 liters of engine oil, new oil filter and labour charge! I nearly pengsan expecting about RM500 compared to normal jap car between RM200-300.

Bro,
Did you change your engine oil at AB, Ingress or Sapura?? If yes... that's the price you have to pay :D
But then.. if you are planning for oil change, why don't you consider going to BMW workshops??? I went to M1 last Friday to change my engine oil... they used Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40... total cost RM471 including tax, workmanship and oil filter...

it's located in Kayu Ara in PJ... try to google it up ok???
otherwise there are other reputable workshops in PJ area...

thule...is M1 using the shell helix ultra or the shell helix ultra AB...the one with AB at the back is certified to BMW LL oil standard so it is more expensive...

Bro... I'd checked with M1 and also googled up Shell Helix Ultra.
Apparently, the new Helix has no AB prefix to it... the previous one with AB was 5W-30, which is no longer in production. the M1 boss also assured me that the new 5W-40 is good for BMW... any UDM owners here who service their rides in M1 can testify???

The ultra helix that is sold otc is the normal ultra helix whereas the helix ab is specifically developed for extended drains and to BMW standards. You cannot buy helix ab otc

If you can't find BMW LL-01 or LL-04 approved stamped on the bottle, look for ACEA A3 and API SM. FWIW, the newer BMW engines use 5w30 and if i am not wrong, the only otc oil that meets this spec in KL is Torco SR-1

I took delivery of my E60 525i in March 2006.

As of this March 2009, she will be 3 years old. Her mileage now is 120,000kms.

I am here to personally tell you that CKD isnt necessarily any worst off than CBU cars.

My E60 525i is a CKD and my elder broinlaw's E60 530i is a CBU. You dont even want to begin to wonder how much problems the CBU 530 as opposed to my CKD 525i not mentioning my high mileage.

My CKD is solidly built and to this day, has had no major problems or nothing i thought was not fair for the manufacturer etc. Everything that has happened so far, i thought has been very fair given the mileage and the frequency of its occurence.

My only complaint is that i have to top up engine oil every 5000 - 8000kms but the thing is my friend who bought the EXACT same car at the EXACT same time from the same dealership also has to top up every 5000 - 8000kms. Led me to believe that this is possibly a common occurence with these new engines.

Honestly, these oils cost around RM60+ previously but now around RM90+ from Auto Bavaria or any dealership. I just buy 5 and make sure theres 1 sitting in my boot at any given time. If it pops up as engine oil low, ill just top it up the next time im filling gas. Not very hard. I dont really think RM90+ every 5000 - 8000kms would be painful for someone who bought a RM300 - 400k car.

Nonetheless, my Audi B7 A4 2.0tFSI also drinks engine oil right about this rate if im not mistaken?

All in all, i think that the CKD cars are actually built very well. I have no complaints at all and i have seen FIRST HAND experience where a CBU car had way more problems and had built quality issues on the inside (rattles, loose panels etc) as opposed to my CKD car.

Not to mention i'm riding on 20' rims with H&R sport springs and he's not. ;)

Safe to say the CBU guy is now sold and i heard the new owner just replaced the transmission a month ago at a good 20K i think? My CKD baby is still holding up very well at 120,000kms driving like the day i bought her which is around 45k - 50k kms a year.

I hope you guys get your engine swaps sorted out though. I would really not want any local AB technicians reassembling my engine changing piston rings and such.

Just my humble 2c. :)

Just to double check with fellow sifu here on Engine Oil.

I went to M1 segambut last week for servicing. they charged me 7 bottles of Shell fully synthetic AB. and each bottle is RM 88. That means that they charged me RM616 for the Engine oil. When i asked them why so expensive, they told me that Shell fully synthetic AB can last for 25,000 km without servicing, same as Auto Bavaria.

Can someone tell me if i kena con liao?

Thanks.

Kena liao !!!

This is more expensive than AB. Recently change engine oil. Definitely less than 600

bro,
I've been reading this thread ever since I was about to purchase the E60... I had highlighted this problem to the sales exec before getting this car... since they only provide 1 month warranty for the engine and transmission.
From page 1 until the recent ones... all I noticed was the cars bought from AB were brought back to replace the whole engine block (upper)... correct me if I'm wrong. But I never seem to read anyone buying Japan spec E60 facing this problem... including mine. and YES! I'm referring to the engines that are facing the engine oil top-up problems only...
Regarding engine oil to use... I have no idea on which viscosity to use, as I am about to change the engine oil for the first time since getting my car. I'm not sure whether to go for 5W-40 or 10W-40...

Not true at least for me. 525 M-Sport 2006. Excellent condition

Couldn't agree more with you !! Same CKD 2006 525i M-Sport:top:

Hi,I have a 2005 E61 525 Msport.Had a problem with it using 1 ltr of oil to 620kms.Bmw said that was an acceptable limit!!
After 9 months of complaining of oil use, blue smoke and pinking noises, they stripped the engine and found the cylinders have gone oval! They have had the car for 5 weeks and are waiting for new block and pistons to come from Germany.Should have the car back end of next week.

Bro I hear so many people telling me same thing. Apparently, its prevalent to the new magnesium engines you won't get problem if its older modeled engine.

While under warranty, pressure AB or BMW for explanation before any major repairs required. It will be a learning experience for all members if valuable information is obtain and shared. No point havng a high performance car that goes kaput right after warrranty..... very high cost of repairs.....

I think I gotta agree with Micky and K3nny,I've got a 530 cbu and the little rattles and creaks are driving me nuts.I've checked with some of my friends who've got the CkDs and none seem to have an issue on these.....To say that it's irritating is an understatement

Have a friend with the same problem as yours ...... since his car was serviced at AB from day 1, he got a new engine (under goodwill) replaced. maybe you should do the same.
I you need more details, just let me know and if AB or BMW gives you a hard time, go to the Kementerian Perdagangan dan Hak Pengguna and file your case there. They will be more than oblige to assist.

Bro

Got a new Cylinder Head, Piston & Block and In-take manifold all for an undisclosed amount (an agreement I had with the Principal) BUT I am happy with the outcome. Basically the above parts denotes a new engine by itself. Frankly I would have got a better deal if I had let Kementerian handled it but lets just say that on a long term thinking, its best I have my car done with the agreed (minimal) cost.
Maybe we can TT some day and will share you the actual outcome ..... :):):):))
