Hi Guys, I would like to share my findings and results to my diagnostic foray started a few weeks ago (after the carputer is considered done).I've succesfully installed and run EasyDIS v44 and INPA-EDIABAS on my Windows 7 64bit computer using a homemade OBD interface. In essence, you'll need an INPA-EDIABAS compatible cable to get EasyDIS to work which easily available on eBay and such. The cable I've made and USB-to-serial converter pair is able to autodetect my car.Installation of INPA-EDIABAS is a breeze but needed for EasyDIS to work since it will use EDIABAS to talk to the vehicle. Installation of EasyDIS is more complicated, but the steps are very well documented and should take around an hour or two to finish depending on how good you are around computer.Files for the installation and documentation can be found here.http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1541368If anybody used links that I've put before in other threads, scratch all of that, this is the correct and working download. INPA is English here unlike the others. Everything should be ok if you follow the documentations to the letter. One thing that I did wrong is that setting the protocol as Softing and not Fister. And note that, EasyDIS is modified from the original application to work with INPA-EDIABAS interface. So the bar showing connection health to the yellow diaghead will not work (as my screenshot below). Remember to turn off firewall, including the application in firewall exception is not enough.Hope this helps anybody. Some useful linkshttp://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1385070&page=3http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1608785EasyDIS screenshotMain page

Aidilj, you are the man. I have already downloaded from the same site sometime back. started working on it a few days ago. I have got as far as installing the Base and got stuck at the page DIS - Installation button. I have already order the Ediabas-Inpa cable too.
One question, do I have to get the INPA working first before I install the VMware, EasyDIS and the GT1 ?

Thanks.

Hi IanDaddy,

For the DIS installation you'll need to mount the v44 disc before starting GT1, then installing it would take awhile - with the XXXX as the progress indicator.

You don't have to get INPA working first before installing VMware, EasyDIS and GT1. But you'll need to get that working before setting up connection from the cable to GT1.

Finally a dedicated thread to discuss this.! :top::top::top:

Cheers

Thanks Aidilj,

I am using Daemon Tools lite to mount to v44 , no problem there . I got to the XXXX stage and it run for about half an hour then the XXX stop. In the Task Manager it is running (taking up CPU times). How long did it take you ?

I am using an old Dell with 1GB RAM WinXP SP2, VMware Workstation 6.5 . I allocated 512MB of RAM, 18.6 GB of HD space. Do I need to pre-allocate the hard disc space ? And how to I do it in VMW 6.5, because it the GT1 folder in My Virtual Folder is only 2GB.

I am going to remove the VM and start again.

Hey IanDaddy, I remember it took unusually long for me as well as my machine is a pretty recent one - 2.5Ghz Core2duo 4GB Ram. It probably took around half an hour for me too.

I also do not know how to preallocate in the new VMware and in the virtual machine info it doesn't say the 18.6GB is preallocated. I guess you don't need that in VMware 6.5. 512MB for the VM is good, way faster than 256MB.

Try it again, just don't wait for the DIS - installation to finish, get a coffe or watch TV and it will be ok when you're back.. Fingers crossed

Aidilj,

I left it overnight last night and it got stuck at the XXXX for hours. I will do from fresh again tonight. Also I found out how to preallocate the space using vmware utility called vmware-vdiskmanager , a command prompt utility.

I got a Core2Duo as well but much slower clock speed. Should be more than enough.

Thanks a lot for your help.

I got all of them installed and I think working too. Just waiting for the arrival of my Ediabas INPA interface from China. IT should be ready to go. The VM settings caused all the problem, I chose custom instead of typical when creating the VM, that solve all the problems.

Good to hear that! Just a few stuff to check with you, is protocol set to fister? and vm set to off? API test success and IP address shows in IFH service like my screenshot?

If all is ok then you're good! :top::top::top:

sory to ask bro.need to d/load all the file?

To get EasyDIS working download the files in these folders
- EasyDIS and GT1 v44
- EDIABAS 6.4.7 and INPA 5.0.2
- VMware workstation 6.5.2

In addition to that you'll also need Daemon tools installed to mount images for installation. Google for it.

Understanding what you're doing is good as well, I suggest reading through this thread http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1297683

There is a newer version of DIS which is v57 but from my research v57 wouldn't be able to program/code your car anymore. Program/coding is done through SSS/Progman now.

Yes, fister, vm set to off, APItest passed and the 192.168.68.30 showing on the toolbar IFHservice. Next is to test with the ediabas/inpa interface , can't wait for it to arrive.

THanks a lot for your help.

I notice the mouse click in DIS is slow and not responsive , is that normal or is there some tuning I need to to in wmware or SCOunix ?

i wonder what i'm gonna do with the software without the scanner?
do i need the adaptor only?

Yes you will need the adaptor, and if your adaptor is serial and your computer doesn't have the port then you'll need to buy a USB-to-serial...

Haha thats a funny picture, this on the other hand is my setup

Yeah mouse clicks are slow and unresponsive, you not only need to click but also move the cursor for input to trigger. It's not so bad thus far though, guess I'm used to it already. Increasing the ram from 256MB to 512MB helps a lot. I believe yours is at 512MB as well per your earlier post.

I'm working out some kinks with programming where you need to turn ignition off and on again, I'm kind of stuck for now. I'm reinstalling EDIABAS with the USB to serial option unchecked for proper ignition detection.

one thread about this http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1482824

Aidilj,
I think there is a place where the mouse behaviors can be changed in the SCO, will try to check with some mates who are good at SCO.

I recreated the VM with 256MB when I got stuck earlier, increased to 384MB now after successful installation. Will tweak and see, or perhaps dunk another 1GB RAM in.

Did you get the TIS files ? I am thinking of getting them installed, there must be a wealth of technical data there.

Also, I read that some has success with VAG-COM interface, that will be USB , right?

Guys,

What USB-to-serial cable do you guys recommend? Planning to use Ediabas/INPA to read live data.

Also, any idea if we can use use Ediabas/INPA with the PASoft scanner we bought during the group buy?

Thanks guys.

Salut

Nice! Please update when you are able to fix the mouse problem.

I have the TIS .iso file, installed it as standalone not part of DIS. Yup agreed there's a lot of info in it, wondering how would it integrate into DIS..

VAG-COM is USB which uses the FTDI USB-to-serial chip, the community essentially hacked the circuit for proper ignition detection.

On another note, I'm wondering what kind of industry are you in...?

Solo, good question, I recommend the one from Cliptec like in my picture earlier. It uses Prolific chip instead of FTDI and all the pins on DB-9 are properly implemented. Totally recommend Cliptec.

You can't use EDIABAS/INPA interface with PAsoft scanner because PAsoft has microcontroller in it and it speaks a proprietary language.
