Actually I took my car in to get the brake fluid replaced as highlighted by the OBC(since my car is an 05 CBU registered in 07). While I was at AB Segambut the SA told me might as well do the 1st oil svc, so I did it there too :). Saved me one trip. I plan to do a precautionary oil chg in 10k kms intervals like what I did with my E46.

For the BRSI, I'm checking with a buddy who works in BMW Malaysia who looks after all the dealers here in the country. They gave him a new E90 325i Sports as a company car so he's ditched his Wira. Lucky &*^*&%*&%.. LOL.

Bro, every 10K km , have to change brake fluid ?

E90 parts & maintenance

I am suprised that this thread hasnt been put up already esp since earliest E90s are now 5 years old and are no longer covered by the Free Maintenance BSRI program offered by the dealers.

Anyway, anyone care to share their maintenance experience here for the benefit of all forumers. Thxs

Actually there is.. http://www.bmwclubmalaysia.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16643

But rojak d.. :p Most E9x I know still going back to SC because still possible for goodwill claim after warranty expire.. :p

I will only contribute after my E90 is 5 years old. Now is approaching 3 only.. 2 more years to go before I can "contribute" to this thread.. :p that's the beauty of buying a brand new BMW! :top:

Priceless experience!

Mine is already on its year 5. No troubles except for a faulty camshaft sensor a year back (there is a recall on this). Changed that and its good as new. Thinking of changing its water pump soon as its reaching 70000 kms in about 4000 kms time.. That will cost a bomb last i heard (circa RM1700 for the electric pump). Only thing that is bothering me is that the rubberized interior parts is chipping.

Mine is CBU unit Europe manufactured August 2005, imported new from Naza and registered in Malaysia October 2006. It should be the same age as the first batch CBU that brought by Cartrade but due to AP issues, those unit sold by AB in mid 2006.so far mileage already clock 75K and my maintenance list as per listed:

1. Profile gasket due to leakage -RM 350
2. Thermostate hose RM 250
3. Radiator RM 1800
4. ATF Heat exchanger RM 1300
5. Brake pad and rotor FR RM 1500
6. Brake pad rear. RM 550
7. Ignition coil - RM 990
7. Gearbox valve body -mechatronic repair + reprogramming RM 4500 ....

After all repair done, car drive as good as new now and still enjoying my UDM. hope other part will last longer.Coming soon will be my 'vacuum pump' and 'rocker cover gasket' that already show sign of leaking...

Just to share mine, its been 4 yrs and since 2009, i've Active Steering light fault.
Dealer changed the Steering Column in 2009, changed Steering Angle Sensor last month. But i still get the Active Steering Fault 2 weeks ago, but just once! Called up AB and f**k the mother F**ker, they say if fault stayed on regularly...gotta bring back for further diagnose...I think ask them to Fly Kite!

Yesterday, the ABS, DSC and Handbrake light triggered. Damn bloody dunno-what-fault, lights gone away after driving less than 10 metres. No idrive so cannot tell what's wrong actually.

I'd really think twice to buy a 'Bummer' car next time... imagine my mileage only clocked 16k km and so much problems.
Drive got problem, dont drive also got problem. What the hell!

Thks for the response. Pls keep them coming.

Moderators pls have a sticky for this topic .

As someone who's own drive has always been european from day 1 (although there's the odd jap in the porch) I think components lasting 4-5 years is par for the course. By and large I think BMWs are among the more reliable europeans. It's just that you feel it more because of the high cost of original German parts. Believe me, you'll feel it even more if you own a Merc or Porsche :)

Yup Badrul,

At one time thinking of selling it already. The major one is the mechatronic/valvebody. This is caused by the leakage at ATF heat exchanger and the coolant sipping into the ATF. Lucky the GB is OK.it is inter-related issues.Anyway done up everything, now car back to normal.

Thanks for the explanation. At least now I know what to look out for. I believe its quite rare for the ATF Heat Exchanger to go kaput. Anyway, all is well now and enjoy your ride. :top:

Rattle sound while idle

Hi everyone,

I am new here and new with BMW too...mine is 320i E90 CBU japan spec manufactured in 2006....Mileage is 17K....When in idle the engine sound like rattle....and gone if rev up to 2....had asked dealer ...he said it is normal for E90 engine...is it true?

Hi nazri,

When I bought my E90 last year , I have the same concern. But when ask around , most answer I had is that 'normal' for 4 porter engine. U may check all the clips for engine cover and ensure those fits well. That will helps minimize the rattle.

Got it from my neighborhood parts shop.. This is not my preference, some more extra RM3 just because it claimed "original".. I prefer the orange box KNECHT filter which I use for my previous service where the frame is made of cardboard-like material and this "original" is plastic.

I had to take the filter because I won't be free for next 2 weeks and will be driving the car down to Spore for holiday.
