Update:

Still waiting for my replacement aluminium adjusters, but the ebay seller who sold me the original headlamp was kind enough to reimburse me with the cost of buying the replacement adjuster. Aluminium some more so wont break ever again!

Kudos to that ebay seller, hope more people like him exists on ebay.

bmw7833.. pertaining to your problem.

The vertical shadow seem to disappear when you rotate the HID bulb. i.e. making the ceramic rod to face down.
See picture below. However, the horizontal shadow remains. This mean that there is another obstruction in the path of the light source.

When compare the light pattern of the beam at a distance, there seem to be not much of the difference in the intensity or the beam pattern. Hence, I can understand your disappointment after 2 hours of sweat.

However, looking at the beam pattern, you may have a situation of case "B" as shown below.

Time for open heart surgery on the headlamp to see the projector reflector. Maybe, you may have to cut away the deflector or some metal plate. I have done that for my E36 projector lamp.

I have older projection headlights, those without the "angel eyes" ring. What i did in my case was to purchase HID's 4300 Kelvins which is bright white (but it has a slight yellow tinge some 5 minutes after powering up). It's plug and play mates, and since it's projection headlights, i get a very bright splash of lights, extremely useful for highway night driving and on the local roads. One other thing, since our headlight lamp cover is plastic, you could rub your headlights down with fine compound polish, these often come in cream or watery solutions. that way you get rid of grit, surface runoffs etc which stick to your headlights which would compromise the intensity and reach of your lights.

the Philips bulbs dont add much intensity in my opinion.

Anyone needs their Adjusters changed. Please PM me. For both headlamps I only charge RM500 with the adjusters. I only need 2 - 3 hours to do the job for both. Only ori hella with or without Xenon HID. I do not remove the the lens.

Bimmer73 has long cruvy fingers that on demand can reach the adjusters without taking out the lens. He has perfected this technique over many moon days.:wink::wink: Anyway I think bimmer73 wants to keep this technique of repairing adjusters as his intellectual property.

I only know how to remove the headlight from the car and then pass to bimmer73
got my headlights back, looking good too after washing the cover insides...looks clean and new too...

BMW e39 Headlights

i have had enough of stupid bmw e39 hella projectors.....

now i am using original hella e39 headlights, but with proton waja projectors......
retrofit lah...... kaki semua sama.....

u will be amazed how good waja projectors if adjust properly (vertically n horizontally)
plus i use aluminium headlight adjusters, no more issue kaki patah.......

dicsitar, u can stick to e39 hella stupid projectors if u want to.

retrofit done by myself. my cost is 1 pair of original AL waja halogen headlights (in order to get the projectors). these projectors have H1 bulb base.
better if u can get the waja hid headlights (these have d2s bulb base), bit difficult to get n they are expensive.....

u can ask some kl guys in this forum, they might know how to do it.

other projectors with same "'kaki' aka mounting points are e60 n fx-r projectors. e60 (early model) projectors also not bright, the late e60 model, it's bright. i don't know how to explain but if i see the headlights, i know which one is brighter. but since to get the e60 projectors are a bit expensive, i scraped the idea.

fx-r ok but i don't like the light spread on the road. comparable to waja projectors though. same brightness......

u can fit camry projectors also but some modification needs to be done coz mounting points not the same.........
