Hi, since we are on the topic of maintenance, any advice on the best place to service my 3 mths old 320i? Want to change oil before the 25k mark (in fact my OBC has counted up to 30k & when I called AB Glenmarie about it they said it was "normal"). Hard to believe that crap, even though we have faith in our cars. Thinking of sending to AB Glenmarie where I got the ride, but heard there may be better places. Can an AB purchased vehicle be serviced at Sapura Auto service centers?

Chris.

AB charges an arm and a leg for the Shell Helix engine oil they use. Something like 6 ltrs will cost you RM500-600 bucks!

So I just make sure I get the orginal BMW oil filter and my own engine oil (usually Mobil 1 for me) and get it changed at a BMW workshop while I watch them do the job. An oil change is not rocket science, so anyone can do it, just make sure you get the original BMW Oil Filter and don't get them to reset the OBC.

The sad part about doing oil change every 10000kms is i'll have to do it every 3 months :(

Bummer innit.

Hahaha! Time to move nearer to your place of work I suppose...

BTW E46F, where are you sending your car for service? Since I'm tracking your mileage against mine, we can do our servicing at the same time together, heh!

I have just spoken to my regular spare part shop and he will stock up my oil filter for my coming 5k and 15k outside oil change before doing the 25k AB BSRI service.

My 5k will use Synthium3000 because still have one compliment bottle at home while my 15k oil change, planning to run these:
97$1$300V%2015W50.jpg

E46F, how much are our BMW OEM oil filter? I was told around RM4x.xx (outside price)..

Is this is the exact one you are planning to use, it is way too thick

This I haven't buy yet. What is the recommended OEM viscosity? What is BMW using? I was told Synthium3000 (5W40), then I should use the same engine oil or equivalent 5W viscosity oil loo...

The above 300V oil I think its meant for Turbo aspirated engine la.. :D Thanks for the pointer!

5W30 but most BMW oils (eg castrol) are heavy 30 weights....need to make sure that the oils are ACEA A3 and API SM certified

I'll go find Eddie to get the precautionary oil changes done there. I'm at 10,400+ kms now. Engine feels good and lively, but I've noticed a bit of pinging at low rpms sometimes. I think the compression ratio of the N52B25 is relatively high @ 11 for a mass production car (almost like JDM type R comp ratios LOL). Anyone of you experience this? Also till todate, no oil burn signs on my N52, so I guess I have been quite fortunate.

I haven't bought one for the N52 engine yet cos havent done the precautionary change on the car. But price sounds about right. Also yeah 5W is probably the weight you wanna go with. 0W might be a little more noisier.

E46,

Where is this place. I am way due for my precautionary oil change (23K km) Was thinking of going to AB. Just wondering how does the outside shop ensure they pour in just enuf of oil? I am a big fan of Mobil 1 too but when it comes to the next oil chg AB will use Helix. I am not quite comfortable in mixing up the oil every 10K. What say you all? Where can I buy the original oil filter?

danc, I am getting my frequent spare part shop to order for me. Whatever it is, I will keep the OEM oil filter in a plastic and if possible, swap it back when return to AB for 25k service. That way, they can't say I have meddled with the OEM filter or blame the 3rd party filter.. :D

That's one area covered. Now how do I drain the engine oil without the SC knowing it?? No dipstick, cannot siphon it out..:106:

Stuttgart tmn mayang. I take it there cos its quite nearby my home and no hassle. Also you can specify OEM, or Orignal BMW parts which they carry, and many 3rd party mechs carry just OEM instead of Orig BMW parts. Labor is not as cheap as some other places, but I like it that I am there to watch them do the oil service on the car. Also take it there only for specific things I want done, and all troubleshooting of the car I take it back to AB. Sometimes 3rd party mechs do not seem as honest when it comes to troubleshooting in my experience :).

For my E46 I was also interchanging Mobil 1 vs. Helix (during major svc), and there is no major impact as far as I know of doing this. I also always feel that after Mobil 1, the engine feels always lighter but it could just be all in the mind. But Mobil 1 has one of the best cleaning properties of synth oils based on my research sometime back.

Maybe I can go there disturb u when the day come.. :D Am staying near by too!

Just had mine done for 2nd service at 35,900km.

I was charge RM40+ for the back light bulbs... They didn't even tell me which bulbs is that... I mean I got the faulty light on saying the tail light faulty, but I can't see any faulty at all, yet they tell me the bulbs fused already... Wonder which one lo... I think AB service should be improved, such as informing us which bulb fused or returning us the fused bulbs or something... I am not heartache for the money spend, I am just not very satisfy with the information not being fed to me...

E46,

Can you please PM me Eddie's contact details? have you sent your E90 to him for an oil change? How do they ensure the correct amount of oil?
TQ!
