Alternator pulley has a one way directional bearing inside, just like your bicycle. Inside ball bearing pecah and the bearing seize, like a fixie bicycle :4: can hear an occasion "krakk" like front wheel drive car with a busted drive shaft trying to take corner. With the fixie alternator pulley, can hear a whining sound in the cabin. Wife dare not drive the car, I took a day off to send the car to SC for inspection.

Went to SC, SC say need to inspect and leave the car behind just to be safe, they are not taking any chance and I do understand. They have a reputation up uphold. So I went to Optimum, the foreman took a small but long screw driver and stick it into the alternator to stop the solenoid from spinning, then use hand to turn the pulley.. and yes, fixie confirm... the bearing seize. With the v-belt out of the way, I can inspect all the pulleys, the tensioner pulley was a bit loose and even spin by hand, can see the pulley wobble and create a little noise. So change it also lor. The belt no crack no tear.. no need to replace la. My Avanza only replace the RM38 v-belt after 6.5 year, at 160k km.. :4:

Check out the special tool on the left that require to remove the alternotor 1-way pulley..

Anyone experience a bad smell when turning on airconditioning. Mine got funny smell when 1st time starting the aircond. Filter is still new and already cleaned.

Fungi growth on the cooling coil.. In a hot day, after parking the car under hot sun, set aircond temperature to high and blast to MAX blower speed to let hot cabin air to pass through the cooling coil to hopefully cook the fungi or other microbes on the cooling. It might help.

Cooling coil changed redy bro

Hi Guys,

Since on the aircond issue here, can anyone recommend me where to service my aircond? Preferably in Puchong or Pandan Indah area. Never service them before. Pls help ya. Thanks

Go to Naidu under the tree. His workshop is behind Shell station, Jalan Gasing, PJ next to EPF HQ.

Changing the coils won't help as it is due to the design of the aircon system, which allows for a certain amount of water to be trapped in the housing. This was explained to me by the SC Manager at Tian Siang Ipoh. Nothing we can do about it as BMW says it is not a design flaw!:thefinger: So, only way to resolve is the way that AB recommended, which is actually only a short term solution.....

Can also check if the water drain pipe is bent or clog which causes slow draining. It's A very long pipe that comes out on top of the gearbox, towards driver's side. The pipe actually drips water over the gearbox and cause gearbox to rust. I wanted to extend the pipe but notice the tip of the pipe is very interesting, it's partial blocked which I believe to stop insects or lizards to craw into the aircond box and died there.. :13:

Hi Herbert,

Thanks for the recommendation. will drop by at Naidu one of this day. Btw, how much to I expect to pay for the service
?

Just some sharing, it might help:
1) Don't always set to minimum Fan speed, should at least 2 or 3 bar and above. This is because water will accumulate easily inside due to air pump out too weak, subsequently Fungi grow easily. If feel cool, just increase the temperature. Same thing apply to household aircond.

2) Few hundreds meter before arriving home, turn the Fan to MAX speed with high temperature, perhaps could reduce the internal Wetness and kill the fungi.

Yours got smell or not?? I'm sure the aircond is "cold" one hehe

Mine no smell.. normally set to 23~25 ventilation setting as default and blower speed at 3~4.

AB, any significant improvement after changing of those pulley instead of just eliminating the 'kraak' sound? I had the krak-krak sound as well and does changing of the pulleys improved the 4 porter sound.?

Thanks

From my experience, the smell only occurs if you set the AC to recirculation mode at situations where condensation is high, e.g. low temp setting inside (say 18 - 20 deg C) and raining outside, extended low temperature drive at night, etc.

When on auto or vent setting, no smell at all in whatever condition.

Whatever reason or way to avoid, its shouldn't be happened at the 1st place. Never had this problem wt other model. Such a simple thing but a problem for premium brand.

BMW sez its not a design fault!:thefinger: Anyway, lets see if the F30 has the same AC system design....:4:

Can I know what is the average cost of each service visit during the BSRI period? I know it's FOC but I just wanna figure out roughly how much is the total saving of the free service cost during the additional period of 2 years because currently there is a promotion - 5 years BSRI
