THANKS DY and E46!

Hi dan, PM me when you wanna visit Stuttgart. I might tag along since I am also due for an oil change pretty soon.

Guys,

does AB Glenmarie use Shell helix Ultra 5w-30 for our car? is it the normal one or the OEM Spec Shell Helix Ultra AB 5W-30?

anybody got experience using other oils (since on the filler cap got write recomended Castrol oil)?

Alex,

AB that still uses Shell I believe use Helix 5w40. When you ask them they will claim that it isn't the std Heli but a 'special' formulation just for AB. That way they can charge more I guess.

AB uses Helix AB (not auto bavaria) 5W30. It was specifically formulated for BMWs by Shell. Available mostly in Europe

AB Pg uses Shell Helix Ultra AB 6.5l which costed my friend RM487.50 (E60 250i).

I believe Shell Helix Ultra AB is 5w-30.

The Shell Ultra you get outside isnt. Should you be mixing different grade oils should you go outside AB in b/w your scheduled services @ AB.

I totally agree that 25000km service interval is absurd and a 12500km change in b/w should be practised if you want to keep your car for more than 3-4 yerars but changing oil outside would invariably mean using different grade oil, which may not be ideal?

What do you guys think?

I find that the OBC doesn't follow the 25,000 service interval exactly cos I have run about 5,000 kms since my first service and there's 13,000 kms to go before the next i.e. 7,000 kms just went missing. Hence, I'm predicting that after I run for another 5,000 kms, the OBC might well show I got only 4,000 kms to the next service, which AB will carry it out after a bit of song and dance like what I did the last time.

I have had to do a few warranty claims recently, so thought I would post them up here. Don't know the technical term for all of these though:

1. Inner lining on 3 windows came out, requiring replacement
2. Cover for driver's seat adjustment (down near memory buttons) came loose, but was able to reattach
3. Window washer pump jammed, requiring replacement

First two items I got fixed at AB Glenmarie during my last service, but had to wait 3-4 days for parts from JB. For 3rd item, went to IA instead and they were able to diagnose and fix on the same day (including replacement pump).

went for my rear brake replacement as it was due , found out a problem with the rear right wishbone thingy , the mechanic showed me what was missing from it. had to wait 1 day for replacement , they barred my car as well, cant take it back . so i was chauffeured home like a big shot hahaha. all in 800++ damage for all my problems. did it at IA. they even sneakily replace my auto bavaria sticker with an ingress auto sticker. very good , prompt and friendly service , from the receptionist to the mechanics and also the driver ( which was a girl )

cheers.

Just to contribute to the E9x maintenance list...

A friend's E90 2 windows were smashed on one HH evening at Hartamas, front side and rear side.. all adds up to about RM900, done at SC and took 3 days because stock need to send down from JB.

I used to go to Benson Auto for my E46. The owner is a BMW sifu who drives an E39 528i. Not sure if he has upgraded yet. They are pretty reliable and fast. Also, they use genuine BMW parts that are sourced from Bavarian Auto or Stuttgart, so no worries there. I like them cos they can fix simple problems straight away and sometimes don't even charge. Good for quick fixes on weekends when the Authorised Dealers we're sometimes forced to rely on are closed! :stupid:

I just did my service at the BMW authorised dealer and the price is RM 698.35. I think it is reasonable price and headache free since I do the service at every 12,500 km (which it takes me 7 months to hit this mileage). So.... RM 698.35 / 7 months = RM 99.76 per month for a BMW....

I'm doing the same thing tomorrow at Ingress. My colleague's wife E90 325i just had a massive oil sludge issue and I'm a bit concerned now, so it's a precautionary oil change.
