While I was cruising from SS2 towards the KL city, I suddenly noticed that the high beam lights was on automatically and subsequently all my signal lights are not functioning unless I press the emergency signal. I tried numerous ways to off the high beams and headlights, but all the control buttons and knobs in the car that are related to lights seems to be malfunction all together.I tried calling the very friendly and 'helpful' BMW tollfree number, and they patched me through to a 'Mobile technician' who advice me to unplug and plug back the negative points of the car battery as this would 'most likely solve the problem'.After the magic trick that the BMW mobile technician cast on my E90, the problem got worst. None of my lights can be functional (headlights, foglamp, high beams, signal lights, backlights, etc) and the BMW mobile technician advice me it's best for me to go home while the sun is still up in the sky and that there is absolutely nothing that they can do until 02-Sep-08 because today the 31-Aug and 01-Sep is a public holiday!!!!!!! He did however, provide me a safety tips, please check and see if your brake light is still functional before you continue to drive..... How thoughful is he!!!!!During my journey home, I ran through a small roadpot, and that small roadpot triggers my highbeam and backlight to be switched on again!! By now I'm beginning to admire and appreciate the amazing things that modern electronics can do!Once I'd parked my car, BMW decided to test my IQ level another time by throwing a new scenario for me to solve. the dashboard lights, radio lights, inner lights, backlight, headlights keep flashing non-stop after I'd stop the car and lock it.Once again, I'd decided to give the friendly BMW hotline another call and they had told me that all they can do is to tow my car back to a service centre. When I asked how they are going to solve the problem should they tow my car into the service center, as the lights will still be flashing non-stop regardless of whether the car is in a service center or my house, the 'helpful' helpdesk guy told me that they will start solving it on 02-Sep-08 as today the 31st of Aug and tomorrow 01-Sep is a Public holiday, and although BMW hotline is 24/7 but none of their service centres are 24/7. Seeing how the answer encouraged the owner to adopt a DIY approaches (aka aren't really that useful), I'd decided to play doctor and see if I can solve this by myself through some 'experiement'. Judging by how electronic stuff hungers for the 'RESET' buttons, I'd decided to give the battery unplug/replug solution another try. Hooray!!! all the lights stopped flashing!!! Wonderful!!!oppps....why the hell are the lights (dashboard, radio, headlights, highbeam, backlight) are still on even though it's no longer flashing???ok.... maybe the car need a frontal inspection since the frontal lights were the one that went wrong initially. Ok, let's lid the hood and have a look... hmmmmm... everything looks like where it's suppose to be (not that I know how it's not suppose to be like), ah well that's why I'm not a mechanic... sigh... I must say I must had got really frusfrated and I might have slightly miscalculated the force of my arms when I close the hood back, and bammmm.... opss... the highbeam lights are off!!!!!geezzz... this baby seems like enjoying these bruteforce style, probably BMW likes to be SM!!!Ok, since I'm not into these hardcore bondage game, I'd decided to leave my baby alone and let the BMW 'Professional' guy deal with this on Tuesday (02-Sep-08) rather than me leaving some unrecoverable scars and marks on the baby.I was thinking to unplug the battery so that it won't dies of by the time I'd decided to start the car on Tuesday morning, but BMW just couldn't get enough of satisfaction to test my IQ with the following IF THEN ELSE scenario:1. IF you unplug the battery, THEN your car has no Electricity2. IF you lock the boot, THEN you need electricity to open the boot3. IF you lock the boot with no Electricity, THEN I don't know how you can open your boot later on to plug back the battery4. IF you don't unplug the battery, THEN you can't off the lights5. IF you don't off your car lights, THEN your battery will dies off, AND your security guard will come knocking your house every 3 hours reminding you that you had 'Forgot' to off your headlightsNow do you see how wonderful these deadlock situation keeps me entertained and have me cracking my head trying to solve it??Unfortunately, I don't... so, I'd decided to go and buy a jump start cable and just leave the car as it is with the car lights all on (including the dashboard and radio lights) , and we'll see how things work out in another 40 hours time...In the mean time, any useful advice from brothers and sisters in this forum would be greatly appreciated.....

Oh, and Btw, I'd noticed something else, before I unplug the battery for the 1st time, the next service schedule is another 7000 KM, after I'd unplug the battery, it dropped to 6000, and when I'd unplug the battery again for the 2nd time, it's now showing 5000 KM.

Wonderful electronics!!!

I hope BMW will give you a new battery....the last I heard the stock battery from BMW is very expensive!!!

Anyway...sorry to hear about ur misgiving...pls update us after 2nd Sept - would love to know what happened...

Sure or not!! WOW!! Nice find out, then Astroboy & me would unplug the battery about 15 times to reduce the service interval schedule.

Good News and Bad News....

Good News is that all the lights are finally switched off.....

and...

The Bad News is that....

The battery is dead, that's why all the lights are switched off....

another 24++ hours more to go until their Service Center 'resume operation'...

I must say this is indeed a Wonderful BMW experience...

Bro, how old is your E90~? 320i or 325i/sport~???? hope such issue will not appear on BMW E60~!!!! and also hope that your issue will be solve very soon after the holiday~!!!

Sorry to hear about the problems you are facing. But they way u wrote it, is pretty hillarious LOL.

My experience of electronics going bonkers was when my E46 alternator died. Funny dash warning lights appeared and car kept dying half way. Anyway, this sounds like a different problem all together. Do keep us updated on the root cause of the fault once its all sorted out.

bro, u can unlock boot using key.

you can unlock the boot using key under normal circumstances when the battery is still on. I'd tried to unlock the car door when the battery is unplug and it work, but there is absolutely no mechanical reaction on the car boot when I tried to unlock it with the key without the battery.

AStro meant using the physical key that you can pull out from your fob and insert it into the key hole just above the number plate.

Yes, that's what I meant as well. The KEY that I was refering to was the Physical Key that u pull out from the 'Electronic Key'. When the battery is not plug on, no matter how u twist the KEY in the key hole just above the number plate, there is simply no mechanical movement at all.

car delivered in May 2008 and battery dead now? ohh my!

i think i gotta get a spare battery in the boot just in case i travel in the middle of the nite!

where can we buy the Original BMW batt as per our ride? how much roughly?

The battery is dead because the light control circuit board short-circuited resulting in all the lights can't be switched off, and thus draining the battery completely.

Now, once the battery is completely dead, I can now prove my case that the boot can't be open completely. Yea, it can't be open by the Physical Key, Electronic key, both the bootlid button inside the car and directly under the boot. Anyone still don't think this makes any sense, I suggest you to unplug ur battery and close your boot and try to figure out how to open your boot later on.

Updates 1:
=========
While trying to jump start the E90 with a Toyota Altis, the active sterling with a lock signal flash up, and all the brilliant reader here would already know the result, the sterling is locked and I can't start the car. As usual, all lights continue to flash up until the battery is once again... dead.

Update 2:
========
Called BMW again, and once again, the golden solution is been thrown to me, "I'm afraid we'll have to tow your car back". Wow... nice... that must be a hell of an advertisement for BMW during the peak hour traffic from my house to Auto Bavaria Sg Besi Service Center with a E90 bearing number plate that are 3 months old on a tow car back to BMW. Bravo!!!

Since I don't wanna tarnish BMW images down to that level, I'd suggested them to dispatch a mobile technician to come and help me to start the car. It was the same BMW helpdesk guy who answered my distress call on Saturday (he can still remember me). He was questioning me why didn't I follow instruction and unplug the battery and it appears to be entirely my own fault to be in this situation. But no one seems to had address my question on how to open the boot and plug back the battery once the battery is unpluged and the boot is locked.

So, here I am, waiting for the mobile technician whom they had promised to come within 45 to 60 mins (it's already 20 mins pass). I'm having a feeling that today will be a day where I get to write alot of updates (hopefully not all are negative) on this forum....

Mmmnnnn.... something new for all of us and morgan, please keep us updated as whatever u learn from is unfortunate event will be valuable experience for all of us.

As for the boot lid... if really you need to power electronically to unlock, then there's another way, that's use your physical key to open the driver door, pop the bonnet and use the jump start terminal in the engine bay to power the car's electronics to hopefully power the boot lid electronic mechanism.. I think that should work.. :rolleyes:

Update #3:
==========

1 hour and 10 mins now and still no BMW mobile technician nor any update phone call from BMW yet...

Morganl, I sympathise with you on your problems, but I would recommend that you let them tow your car to the workshop. A flatbed would be better than a tow.

Once a modern car has an electronic problem, the module(s) need to be changed, software reloaded and reinitiated. Especially for lux cars where electronics control so many things in order to give you all the lux features. A mobile technician can't do this in the field, and you wouldn't want him to anyway. This sort of thing happens to all cars, not just BMW.

Update #4:
=========
The BMW Technician came, saw, and gone. Now arranging a tow car service.

He did however managed to solve the lights problem by kicking (and I really mean literally kicking) below the dashboard bout 8-10 times. Out of a sudden, all the lights are off as how they are suppose to be. You know what? Beemer sure does love to be SMed!!!!!

However, the car still can't be started with a Red colour warning sign bearing a active sterling and a lock icon which the BMW helpdesk told me that the Mobile Technician would be able to solve.
