Dear All,
I bought a 2007 523i in Sep (about 6 weeks ago) and decided to do full service and I posted this on 26Sep11 if not mistaken under E60 parts and maintenance to do a price comparison. The transmission oil tray was a bit damp but the gearbox see to perform well enough during test drive. The mechanic helped to do test drive as well and we noticed somejerkbut does not happen often. Mechanic recommended changing AT oil and see how.
I have now driven the car for about 6 weeks but haven't gone anywhere far so only covered 1k in mileage. Generally I think the car is OK except I notice jerk in gearbox if I "hesitate" or am "unsure" especially at about 2,500 rpm' for example if I step on accelerator but if there is traffic and I maintain at about 2,500 rpm for a couple of seconds, the transmission slams. But if I rev the car hard, no such problem, for example at above 3,000 rpm up to about 6,000 rpm the gear changes are smooth.
I have also found a way to avoid the slamming by modifying my driving style. For example if I rev up to between 2,500 to 3,000 rpm and run out of road then instead of letting go of the accelarator I immediately switch my right foot to the brakes, doesn't have to be hard braking, but just assist the car in slowing down, then no slamming. Overall that means more attentive driving, concentrate and focussed the no slamming. Can be considered exciting but then my only concern is that is this a problem?
This happens at slower speeds as well but more slight, the point is if I am not concentrating and leave the downshift to slow the car especially at about 2,500rpm, the slamming happens.
A bit concerned, is this a problem? Thank you all
