E60 jerk..

Hi All, Just to share some info

After using the car for another 3 weeks, still felt some hesitation/jerk when pulling from low rev. Though that was it and have to live with it until a GB overhaul.

Recently the engine light came on in the meter cluster, sent the car for diagnostic and had some valves and a couple of inlet and return hoses changed. Somehow, the car feels smoother, quieterr and the hesitation not felt anymore..

I wonder if the earlier jerk was becos of leaking hoses and faulty valves that cause the hesitation/jerk when revving from slow speed. We may have been too focus and pointed to transimssion fault and overlook other issues.

Thanks for reading.

hi I totally new to BMW & I just got my e60 recon japan yr 07 model 525 msport last week. the adometer clocking 27k by now & the interior is so clean & new. but im still feeling that transmission gear change causing so minor jerking during 40-50 km/h. maybe like change to lower gear. i checked the idrive whereby everything shows OK.

Since my car is so "new" only clocking 27k, do i need to change the ATF ? dealer only give me 1 mth warranty, do i need go back to dealer ask them change for me???

my friend ask me go foe ecu remapping. dont u think the jerking will solve after remap ??
pls advise me where to go for this kind of service other than go back to dealer? How much cost?

P/S: I staying in Penang.

thanks

It seems that some have resolved the matter by changing the mechatronics of the GB but be prepared to pay a tidy sum for that. Otherwise just live with it as I do not think it will cause any major problem, only occasional embarrassment when friends in the car enquire about the jerkiness. The jerk is more apparent at the said speed of 40-60km/h when you are making a turn or U-turn and then try to speed away. Some forumner resort to quickly changing to steptronic during the said speed range before changing back to normal D.

Guys:
From this thread, talkin' 'bout the tranny problem (jerk at low accelerating low gears and stopping), I gathered a few solutions from u all (listed from minor to major $$ solution):
1.) Transmission adaptation
2.) Software update
3.) Valves / inlet replacements
4.) ATF change
5.) Recondition - Gear wheels replacements
6.) Mechatronics/Valvebody replacement ( I guess it cannot be re-conditioned or parts-individually replaced?)
7.) Gear Box replacement

Did I miss anything else? I have done #1,2,4, and the problem still persists:
1.) Hesitation to go higher gear at low speed after U-turn..
2.) Jerk with "transmission fault" + gear lock on sudden, aggressive acceleration
3.) Jerk when stopping the car to a standstill

Heck. I might need to go down the list, ehh? I heard that valvebody change is around RM12K, and the whole GB change is at RM35K... ouch!

Stevnallgood:
May I know how much the valve/inlet replacements costs? Which valves and inlets did you change? Mind sharing with me, coz I plan to replicate that on my car before I go down the list...:)

Thanx guys.

Bro, Maybe not so helpful....maybe try other workshop first before spending big money! I got same problem before buy the car and after using it for couples of weeks but managed to solved it with one workshop in Kelang. FOC coz still under warranty!

Hi Wolverine,

I had the exact same problem before if you follow my post earlier.

The jerk when accelarating with transmission error would most likely mean you need to replace the wheels as I did.

I did a gear wheels replacement together with a refurbish mechatronic around 8-9k, everything was fine except there there was still the jerk when stop.

I then took it to MSCOPE (Batu Caves) and install a new mechatronic for 8.7k and i return the old unit back to the previous shop and was refunded 3.5k. But the problem still persist, finally MSCOPE reopen the gearbox to have a look and found out that some of the installation of the gearwheels done by the previous shop was wrong and corrected it. Now the car is fine again. For hte second inspection and correction I was not charge anything.

My suggestion is to go to MSCOPE (Batu Caves) and have them pull out the gearbox and pin point the problem. I am quite happy with thier service and it really looks like they know what they are doing.

Jerking when accelerating the vehicle

I had this problem for the longest time, ie my 2004 e60 Japan spec occasionally jerks violently when it downshifts to accelerate when I wanna overtake someone. It was nasty but I kinda lived with it for a while.

I told my supposedly Bimmer expert workshop, and he told me my gear oil is dirty. I replaced the oil and filter, and hoped that the problem was history.

Guess what, it became worse. Now everytime I wanna do a hard acceleration, the error message comes out (with the gear logo), and it limited my speed to 80km/h. It usually went away after i restarted the engine. But not for long, even restarting engine wont fix it. So back to the shop!

Now the shop say confirmed problem with gearbox. Need to replace with a recon unit. How much? 8K inclusive of workmanship, with a mere warranty of 6 months. Should have sold this junk early this year, but now I am stuck. Sud I pay or is there better solution.

Salam Nazrih .... Welcome to the forum.....its NOT the Gearbox problem!! .. I will pm you later abt it. However, this being your first (1st) posting, forum rules need you to make a self intro at the Newbies section. Kindly do so pls...:4:

Bro, if you don't mind, please share which workshop you went to, this is for the benefit of everyone.

Cheers.

hi merwin ...its not so much the gb problem. i had the same prob (started early last year) and even after flushing (which was recommended by a BMW authorised outlet but not recommended by an experienced 3rd party mechanic .. :stupid:) and having the atf changed and wht not, the "gear-slamed" still would not go.

twice i had the warning signal appear on my screen (while driving .. :42:) showing a transmission fault (the red color gear) and the one time the engine failed and refuses to start, my stalled E60 had the whole mall jammed packed for abt 30 mins b4 a few guys came to push it aside. I had to wait in the rain waiting for a tow-truck for more than 2 hrs when finally it managed to start (after a final attempt):top: ....

And guess wht, the engine is purring beautifully till this day with no gear-slam (jerk) wht so ever. I hv yet to find the rason why but my guess is that it has got something to do with its computer memory??

I am still doing some "research" on it and will definitly share the findings soonest possible. In the meantime bro, I guess u hv to live with it but you must remember to hv the atf changed at least after every 50K of distance done....

fyi, my ride to date had clocked abt 290K+ in km ...

cheers.

bro dzul
thx for reply. seems u hav the bad experience among us! but in return u solve the problem unexpectedly!!!!
sadly i hav to live with it untill we figure out the right way to solve tis.
thx thx thx

BTW long time never chat...

I'm about to change my ATF. I got gearbox jerk occasionally. A technician advice me to do the adaptive reset which cost RM250.00. Is the price reasonable? Thank you!

I was told that the reset can be done by pressing and holding the accelerator down the floor for 30 sec with the ignition key ON. But others also told this mode of reset will not be the same as ECU resetting thru the OBD ie GT1

Salam Man.

Saya cuba balas pm Man tapi your mailbox is full. Man kena buat housekeeping sikit kat mailbox Man and delete mana2 yg tak perlu :4: ...

Sometimes adaptive reset will not solve the jerking. So far, I have not come across anyone that can do adaptive reset that will clear the problem. ATF change will also not resolve the issue BUT it is still good to hv the ATF changed periodically (after every 50K km). That will make the gearbox last much much longer.

Mengenai gearbox keta Man, lazim-nya "gear jerk" or gear slam" ada kiatan dgn komputer unit dan kemungkinan juga gearbox tu sendiri. Saya kena tgk dulu keta Man dan rasa sendiri jerking tersebut, baru bole tentukan kepastian-nya. Man tinggal kat ner? Saya minggu ni ada di-KL. Kalau urusan saya siap awal, bole kite jumpa. Ini number saya (0193141348). kalau bole txt saya. Nnt saya return call.

Regards.
