How to check?

You have open your low beam reflector and study how is works.
I dont have a picture of your device but maybe the picture below will give some idea what to expect.

Just to confirm that the ceramic should be facing down, look at the picture below.

JArance bro,
You hero la...

That's the marker I was talking about where it must align to the holder and the casing too

ha..ha.. sometime a picture explain more clearly than all our description..

I think both my headlight adjusters still ok as i can adjust up and down the light yesterday night!

So now the light downward problem is focus to the bulb position.

I opened up the bulb holder today morning and found what..

How the holder sit on the place.

Open it and SHIT!

The ceramic rod is facing up!

The bulb holder was cut so that the wire can connect to ballast.

Since the socket is fit only facing upward, so to make the ceramic rod facing down, i have to cut either the yellow line or the red circle mark.

I will try to DIY to fix the problem. Worst to worst i scarify the holder and buy a new one set after CNY!

bmw7833, the shadow of your light might be cause by the ceramic rod but you still have another problem.

You have modify the existing h7 holder to hold the H7 bulb. It look like the H7 HID is inserted more than requires due to it sitting on the H7 holder. In order to confirm, compare using the H7 holder with halogen H7 bulb and check the distance from the base to the centre of the filament. compare it with the H7 HID. If the distance are different, it will affect the focusing of the light.

Should i measure the yellow line or red line?

For yellow line, it is 25mm while the red line is +-30mm.

Jarance, the bulb base is sit perfectly on the holder, it can not insert deeper or outer.

This is the comparison between the H7 halogen and H7 HID.

Sure have to take as clear as i can mar so u able to help me all the way..:top:

Waiting for your reply.

From the picture, it look like the HID bulb have the same spec as the halogen. Furthermore, the HID bulb have a marking of "H7" on the base.

Suggest that you cut the base (yellow line) of the HID rather than the holder stopper (red circle).
This will prevent the HID bulb from rotating when you install the HID on the holder.

If you can find a way to secure the HID and prevent it from rotating, then cutting the stopper at the holder would be much easier to do since you already have drill a hole on the holder. This option is prefer as you only need to replace the bulb should your HID bulb blown after many hour of usage.

Just an idea.. remove the bulb from the holder base. Rotate the bulb 180 deg to have the ceramic facing down.
Insert the HID bulb into the lamp. use some old newspaper to hold the bulb in place.

On the Headlight and check the beam pattern. Move the High tension cable to see whether the beam pattern change.

Caution: be careful with the HID high tension cable. use a rubber glove to protect yourself from electrical shock.

If the light beam and pattern improve, then only proceed with the modification..

good luck.. signing off for now..

Can i leave the back side blank like this?

Will the water/fog seep into the light body?

I have just bought a Hella Xenon angel eyes headlight for my E39, but they came with the broken adjusters. Have opened the headlights, just waiting for the replacement aluminium adjusters to arrive.

I thought i could install it to the car today, but I guess I'll have to wait for now.

Any DIY pic how u opened the headlight?

I didnt take photos since the guide are readily available on the net. Have to use an oven to bake it! Seriously! Haha

2001-2002 xenon angeleyes can be opened, they use a black rubbery sealer to glue the body and clear front together. That is why the need to use the oven to heat it and make it soft

Post 2003 they changed this and used an epoxy instead, very hard glue so sealed for life. Some people did open it with some serious work.

The opening guide are here:

You can find pretty much anything these days just by Googling it.
