Even if the base not the same, does it affect the brightness ?

brightness of the HID is the same. It depend on the colour output. eg 4300K, 7000K. So it will look from yellowish to whitish to bluish.

If the base is different, then you might have alignment problem. eg filament not facing up or the focal point is not suppose to be. when you on the light, you will see very bright from the front but the throw of the light on the road is disperse rendering it useless for driving safely. Worse still, you cause a glaring for the oncoming traffic.

Sorry to interrupt. Uncle Jarance, where can I buy H7 bulb holder? susah mau cari oo..

H7 bulb holder is easy to find for E39. However, if we use after market HID, no bulb holder at all. I tried looking for the original HID bulb holder, can't find it so far, so modify the existing H7 holder.

Some of the after-market HID kit does not come with holder, that's why I have just ordered the H7 HID holder from oversea last week, the part is on the way.. cost me ~RM39 including freight. Hopefully it can fit the HID bulbs.

Hi Jarace / bmw7833 / king82,

And i marked them [The brighter light is my high beam].

P2100472.jpg

After that i reversed my car to 3m far from the wall.

With the high beam ON.

And then i reversed again, 6m from the wall now.

Any comment?

the headlights are pointing way too low.. something is definitely wrong with the lights.. put HID oso no use..

bmw7833, there is something wrong with your low beam.

1. your left and right low beam is not focus properly. There seem to be something splitting the beam into 2 spots. Observe the "X" shadow in the centre of the beam

2. your low beam is too low.

when the beam is focus and align properly, you should get something like this.

I heard GT-E34 modified your light to make it brighter. It seem to be a mechanical modification. care to share. I know that there are some deflector install near the bulb for my E36.

I have checked, my filamen is facing down. Does it makes any difference if i rotate to face up ?
As mentioned, my current base have been modified, thus it is difficult to rotate(but possible).

To give you all a better understanding of the importance of alignment and focal point see below. Even a few mm does make a lot of difference in the beam pattern.

see below.. light is projected from top to bottom.

For HID, if your HID arc chamber is facing down, some of your light is blocked by the ceramic rod.

So yes, the ceramic rod should be facing down.

ps.. HID bulb dont have filament lar.. only arc chamber

I could not find the base, anyway, yes I think my HID bulb is generic but the box said it was meant for H7. The bulb has the wiring connected to it which cannot be detached, therefore to connect the HID bulb to the ballast, I still need to cut a hole on the holder.

Does you bulb also say that it is suitable also for H1? :listen:

It doesn't say that....but anyway...later when I need to change bulb then only I'll check again.... as it is now, it's working fine for me..

The yellow circle one is ceramic rod?

So it must facing down?

Just to confirm that the ceramic should be facing down, look at the picture below.
