Replace my headlights today . The old one was full of scratches & pitted .
Stock std Bosch ( without the dimple ) , from potong shop - RM280 / per pair .

Changed the front w/screen last month when I painted the car . RM300 .
New . Double layer . Local made .

Hi Megatniza, where did you purchase the headlights? RM280 per pair (non-dimple type) seems reasonable. The local made front windscreen sounds reasonable too. Care to share? Thanks

Thankfully my A pillar still ok. Touch wood.

I hate the B pillar though. Mine is all cracked already. Worst part is it's a rare item even at the chop shops cause usually that's where they chop the car in half!

Megat, I've been seeing a lot of these TRW made disc around these days. Care to share with us how it is performance wise?

I recently purchased the stock BMW brake pads but I've yet to fit it on since I'm waiting for the disc. My mechanic said it has a superb bite so I thought might as well give it a try once to see how good it is.

I got my headlights replaced as well quite some time ago for RM450 (both sides). It was taken off a Japan E36 and you'd be surprised at the condition of the headlights. It's like as though stone chips doesn't exist in Japan...

Btw sach, how's your gearbox? Changing to manual anytime soon? Ke ke...

Yeah, I have seen those Japan spec headlights at chop shop, they looked brand new. Did u buy the headlight yourself or got it from mechanic? If by yourself, which place?

Lionel got it for me :). He has the time and patience la to go and look around in the chop shop which sadly isn't my kind of thing lol. If you need help with sourcing items, he's the person to ask la. Just make sure you reimburse him some petrol money la.

Sach,
If only the glass cover, I think per piece is about RM200, so a set goes for RM400 (that's what I heard). Maybe 3 years ago the price was higher then. The headlights we are talking here are the entire set. I am planning to change back to original headlights soon, now searching around for some good units :)
How to fix the A-pillar? I have read somewhere in this forum that there are shops which could affix a aluminium stud to replace the broken plastic stud. It would fix into the A-pillar body frame nicely. Just need to wait for some feedback from some of them which I already posted and asked.

Loafer,
Ok, will ask Lionel on the headlights :) thanks

Guys, anybody has a spare Motor for the driver side power window for an E36 for sale? Appreciate any leads...PM me Thx

You can try any of the BMW workshops to do it for you. They replace the plastic legs with metal/alu. Shouldn't cost more than 40.

Parts Change - Seek Advise whether overcharge

Parts Replaced @ Bomin Auto
1. 2 sides Ball Joint - RM130 x 2
2. 2 sides Lower Arm Bush - RM45 x 2
3. 2 sides linkage - RM130 x 2

Labor RM100 and RM90 for the pump

Total damage RM670, the parts that I have requested to be replaced is Lemforder, it only carries a bird triangle sign, but it do not have the word "Lemforder" on the parts, how to know whether it is ori. I did question on the authenticity of such parts as they quickly took the Lemforder boxes and kept, I wonder why?

Why take keep the boxes? U pay what the parts inclusive of the packaging. Nowadays must be very careful. Lot of fake things. People oso fake. That's why I bought parts at SG at least minimal risk of fake items.

Bro the way they took the boxes eventough job not completed yet, I did ask for the box to have a look and they took it out from the workshop, just fishy!

You are right on the fake stuff in Malaysia, it's abundance!

/Air-cond service/

went with Naidu of Jln Gasing, PJ, and it was a 10am to 10pm job.

Total cost = RM1,590.

Here's the breakdown.

Itemised Billing wef Jan 2005
-----------------------------

1. Copper cooling coil (more durable than aluminium) = $470
2. Receiver/Dryer $190
3. Expansion valve $135
4. Original pre-cut air-cond blower sponge $160
5. air-cond belt $48
6. Dryer Bearing $49
7. Main Belt $59
6. To vacuum and top up compressor oil and gas $40
7. Change Compressor pulley bearing $58
(note: don;t believe a mechanic if he says compressor bearing can't be replaced)
8. To remove dashboard and a whole lot of other stuff to change cooling coil + misc labour $390

I was awed by the fact that the factory fitted cooling coil lasted 10 years, and was still working.....but decided to retire it and get a new one instead. Labour charge is fair since there's a whole lot of work involved and the mech and his workers need to make a decent profit.

Naidu is methodical in his work and transparent about what needs to be changed and the cost of doing so + alternatives one can try.

He also installed a new fuel filter (bought it myself from Bavarian Auto for RM33) and it makes a difference as I can feel the car is more responsive with clean fuel surging into the 325's six burners.

BTW, if anyone is interested in Treo 650 smartphone, word from the local retailers is that it will arrive on our shores before CNY, and is expected to sell for RM2,400-RM2,600. Looks like a gadget I'd like to own.

Suspension & Oil Leak (Labour Charges Only - Bavian Benz)

Oil Service RM40
Renew Front Shock Absorbers RM160 entire system changed
Renew Rear Shock Absorbers RM130 entire system changed
Renew Bonnet Shocks RM20 both sides (RM10 each)
Renew Rear Coolant Connector RM90 - alot of work to get to this thing and change it
Renew Lower Arm Outer Ball Joints RM84 (RM42 each)
Machine Press Ball Joints RM40 (RM20 each)
Renew Oil Filter Housing Gasket & Bush RM120 - alot of work to change this also
2 O-Rings for oil filter bush RM16 (RM8 each)

Total Cost RM700

Note :
I supplied all the parts so the workshop didn't make any profit off of anything other than the labour
Also 1 of the 2nd hand shocks was too soft and Mr Check returned the piece for me and got a replacement from the chop shop

Also Note :
Alot of extra stuff was done that wasn't charged :-
wiper blades adjusted,
the bottom of the engine was washed to try and find the oil leak - too much oil covering everything to see anything

Recomendations
1)This workshop isn't very full so it's a good place to go to if you need to get work done immediately
2)To save having to bargain after the work is completed, if you know what you want done, get the labour quote upfront
Doesn't apply tho if like me, you are uncertain about the cause of a problem (my oil leak) .....
3)Mr. Check gets a 9 out of 10 for knowledge and service (very nice man, he lost a point because he doesn't supervise his mechanics constantly - he only supervises at the start and when the workers have a problem)
4)The mechanics are also very nice and helpful - also if you are not satisfied and ask them to re-do something, they will and they don't complain about it

Conclusion
Job well done and i'm very satisfied

(Having to bargain at the end , soured the experience abit but other than that, i would recomend them)
