It's not your fault. It's our garmen fault. Diesel technology is meant to save the environment and not destroy it. It's unbelievable that we are still on euro 2 when we are just a few years away from a developed nation. BMW is also unethical to promote diesel cars with DPF removed. I am sure BMW is aware of the harmful diesel emission when DPF is removed. So please save our environment and care for the health of other road users, avoid diesel cars with DPF removed.Mavik said:Thanks for sharing Prot. I was never aware that my diesel car would be causing so much grievances to the people around. I shall look towards replacing my diesel car now. Perhaps a nice V8 would suffice.
Now now mavik......dont fret or worry too much. Enjoy ur ride responsibly.Mavik said:Thanks for sharing Prot. I was never aware that my diesel car would be causing so much grievances to the people around. I shall look towards replacing my diesel car now. Perhaps a nice V8 would suffice.
Guess the face-lifted version would be a little too long to waitMavik said:The new diesel engines will be released with the 3-series facelifted version. Expected sometime 2015/2016
Sad to say that the depreciation value for diesel is worse compared to their petrol siblings. Best to look for the premium selection cars that way your 1st year depreciation is sort of negated.
My solution is to get a SUV to drive on rainy days....serious!tigger said:Guess the face-lifted version would be a little too long to wait
The premium selection is not cheap either. Will have to buy it and just enjoy the drive.. hehehe!!
A little concerned about the water ingress into the air-intake during flood and heavy rain which I had read about in another thread. What precautions to most people take on this besides buying the extra insurance for floods and not restarting when the car stalls? WIll diesel engines have to be more careful on this?
Cheers.
Shit mine is even worse, DPF and catalytic converter removed. Damn, need to make sure I aim my exhaust elsewhere then!splee said:It's not your fault. It's our garmen fault. Being a responsible driver, I shall avoid point my exhaust at you Gendong ok?gendong said:Now now mavik......dont fret or worry too much. Enjoy ur ride responsibly.
That is all that matters.
Best to get flood insurance coverage, if I am not mistaken, the premium is only 0.5% of the insured value of the car right?tigger said:Guess the face-lifted version would be a little too long to wait

joonsuan said:Actually, how clean or dirty the diesel fuel is depends on where you fill up. My fuel filter was replaced at 30k km at Quill and they told me that my filter was still clean. On that basis, I will continue using the same stations I have been using.
What really matters in my opinion is the risk that the injectors get clogged due to sulphur content, but then the "localized" diesel models run a different injector with larger nozzle openings and does not have DPF installed. Risk of clogging is actually lower than if you were to own a recon model.

thats why i drive ranger when it rainsjoonsuan said:Just need to be smart about whether to attempt to drive through the flood waters. It is never a good idea, even with petrol engined cars, not just BMW.

Just because there's so much air pollution around us does not give you the excuse to pollute our air further. Similarly just because so much rubbish on the road does not mean you can throw more rubbish.prodigy said:Just my two cents, I work in a company where 50% of the staff smokes and isn't this bad for my health too. The open burning, the forest fires from our neighbour. Sad to sad air pollution is part of our life, not just the diesel by products bring spewed out by our Diesel engines.
A very good eye opener. I hope since you are such an advocate for this that you would also start increasing awareness of the harmfulness of diesel. There are just so many vehicles which run on diesel which does cause so much harm to our healthy. If you can convince the government about the detriments of diesel, I am sure that in the long run it can be beneficial to our country. First if you can convince the government, that means that they can cut diesel vehicles and start to promote cleaner electric and hybrid vehicles. Secondly they can then cut the diesel subsidy which will save them billions. With no diesel in the air, there will be less health problems and also less cost in terms of public health care and also for the private sector where their employees will have less sick days. Very good cause indeed.Prot said:http://www.theguardian.com/uk/2013/jan/27/diesel-engine-fumes-worse-petrol

And the cost of the switch to diesel is terrifying.
Diesel exhaust is a complex mixture of thousands of gases and fine particles that contains more than 40 toxic air contaminants. These include cancer-causing substances such as benzene, arsenic and formaldehyde, as well as other seriously harmful pollutants.
The microscopic particles in diesel exhaust are less than one-fifth the thickness of a human hair, small enough to penetrate deep into the lungs and bloodstream, causing inflammation, asthma attacks, heart attacks and strokes, and worsening lung disease in the elderly and young. The World Health Organisation says long-term exposure to these particles — called PM2.5s because they are just two-and-a-half thousands of a millimetre across — alters the way children's brains grow and could make them less intelligent.
Californian research last year found a link between pollutants in diesel fumes and autism.
Other U.S. studies have shown that adults exposed to PM2.5s suffer a greater loss of mental faculties than those living away from pollution. The exhausts also spew out nitrogen dioxide, a substance that irritates lungs and reduces our ability to fight disease.
For people living near busy roads, the fumes are constant nightmare
Totally agree on that. Be the change that we all want to see.splee said:Just because there's so much air pollution around us does not give you the excuse to pollute our air further. Similarly just because so much rubbish on the road does not mean you can throw more rubbish.

Co2 is d major concern now as it is causing global warming n there will bemass extinction of life in future if not controled. So by using diesel bmw, we r actually destroying the world less thsn petrol ve
