Good one to start mate in the long journey of BMW ownership. Don't be like me wanted to try BMW ownership go start with 316i now left wanting to own a more powerful street rocket..sigh. I'll patiently wait for the next gen G20 and hopefully it'll blow my mind when it launches.awyongcarl said:Hi everyone! Carl here.
Newbie here but been lurking around for months.
I just booked my 320d M Sport last week and loan has just been approved.
There wasn't stock for the Estoril Blue II color so I had to wait a few weeks longer for it to be built from the plant.
Had a test drive on 316i, 320i Sport Edition and 320d M Sport. Originally I was just eyeing at 316i. Cause of its price value and what I can afford. Coming from Honda Civic FD2 (8 years of ownership), the 316i was superb. I almost booked on the spot with a special order to replace the steering with the M performance Alcantara sports steering but then I thought, why not test drive some other lines since I'm here at the showroom anyway.
So..I tried the 320i Sports Edition, better performance and better equipment/interiors etc. But wasn't really impressed as it looks almost identical to 316i except for the steering wheel. Then the 320d M sport. My god it's totally different from 316i and 320i Sports Edition. The moment I grab the M Sport steering, my heart says, there is no other choices. And the torque I felt the moment I step on the throttle. The engine noise didn't bother me one bit.
So..I booked 320d even though the commitment will be bigger than I have expected. Now the long wait.
Trust me I was tempted with all those piggy back chips but it has some minor cons to using it since all it does is to 'cheat' the ECU to pump in more fuel and air into the engine. I'm actually looking at remapping the ECU to output 215PS/158kW with 300Nm of torque. Prob is no one I know has done it before so I'm not sure how's the FC in all the drive modes since its not everyday I need to access full power as the car is usually parked in the garage or stuck in jams.Yours Faithfully (YF) said:Sean ,
Try boosting the performance using those piggy back systems like race chip. Might transform your 316i to a pocket rocket.
The 316i is absolutely good enough for daily usage, even occasional spirited driving, coming from FD2 Civic anyway. Rear wheel drive is magic lol.seancorr said:Good one to start mate in the long journey of BMW ownership. What's the price given to you for a unit straight out from the factory at the moment?
congrats on your choice. how long is the wait...? i had to wait for 3 long months to get my car but it came from germany (cbu) so very well understood.awyongcarl said:Hi everyone! Carl here.

I like to see people eat my dust on the highways =] The 316i does that juse fine until a vehicle from the usual German trio comes then it gets a little bit complicated haha.awyongcarl said:The 316i is absolutely good enough for daily usage, even occasional spirited driving, coming from FD2 Civic anyway. I have also test driven several others cars, Audi A4, Merc CLA and A class. They are all fine cars except for the CLA, it was pretty damn crappy relatively speaking.
But I suppose the characteristics of RWD was really something that got me attracted to BMW.
Also After trying the M Sport it's just so hard to considers the rest for that price range. (about 256k OTR with 55% NCD insurance)
Yep still under warranty so I'm staying away from it at the moment.Yours Faithfully (YF) said:Sean,
You might want to check with Mavik as he remapped his E90 320d.i am sure if you are interested, he can point you to the right people to do it and get it dyno as well.
Just make sure your warranty is over before doing the remap as warranty is out the window the minute you travel down this route. All the best bro.
Another day another mod!
Same, but I'd imagine I won't be using the comfort mode even if I do have the Adaptive M Suspension hehehe.seancorr said:I like to see people eat my dust on the highways =] The 316i does that juse fine until a vehicle from the usual German trio comes then it gets a little bit complicated haha.
The M-Sport passive suspension is very good in the 320d (firm and planted even on bumpy highways) but I haven't tried the adaptive one in the 328i so I can't comment on that.

I'm gonna take my time with the power of the engine. 184ps and 380nm sounds pretty damn power enough for me.zeedo said:Next step is power kit installation, had mine done last week at Wearness Segambut (only here they can do it in 1 day) after it sat in my store for 2 months. Really worth the investment as now power delivery is smooth and sprints faster
How much is your total bill for the power kit?zeedo said:Next step is power kit installation, had mine done last week at Wearness Segambut (only here they can do it in 1 day) after it sat in my store for 2 months. Really worth the investment as now power delivery is smooth and sprints faster
Hi Carl, how long is your wait? I've booked Estoril Blue II too. My one is longer as it is under MREP/MM2H. What did they offer you too?awyongcarl said:Hi everyone! Carl here.
