320i or 328i ?

With due respect to all taikors who own 328i I wish to highlight my few days experiences with 320i for the benefits of future undecided buyers. My car was delayed almost for 2 weeks due to waiting for WXP plate registration - there is a number that I insisted to have. The delay caused me excruciating pain especially during weekends and public holiday as I couldn't wait to drive the car.

Anyway, I took the car on late Wednesday morning last week (I had inspected the car the day earlier). SA took the trouble to go through the essentials in the car although I have pretty much known them after reading the user manual online:

http://www.f30post.com/goodiesforyou/3/f30/F30_Sedan_Owners_Manual_F30POST.pdf

Finally it's mine. So, here is my review of 320i.

First I switched off the auto stop and changed to sport mode. I took off from the dealer shop and headed back to my house. Many things were on my mine in particular the power, the speed, etc. and the worries that I was buying a 2nd best (after 328i). I told myself just drive the car and to decide for myself. That I did. The moment I drove the car, I could feel that it is fast and responsive unlike the the 2.4 accord that I drove before this :). Secondly the driving comfort is phenomenal. The thick sport steering wheel is nice to hold, very responsive and precise.

I couldn't help myself but to press the pedal reaching 120km/h on a 80km/hr road..no AES eh...that was where I really felt the car is worth my money. It gives me all that I look for and more than satisfies my simple needs.

Thus I am going to say the following, pardon me, I will get shot, but for those who are considering buying 320i as their car we sometime have to say what needed to be said. So it goes as follows:

Speed - between 7.6 or 6.5 seconds - it is non issue as we are on a city road and limited speed highway, we are not on race tracks. The mind has to move away from this obession of speed. Speed has no limit and mostly found in sport cars. My immediate boss who used to own 911 porsche could talk at length about his car. But on the road or highway, please don't drive too fast endangering yourself and other road users. Please stick to max. 120km/h. Speed kills.

Power - A big trailer truck needs big power. Oh well..since we are talking about cars, why stop at 200 or 350 NM torque? Go for more! How about the new M6 coupe that could give 560 hp and 680 Nm? The truth is where do we stop? Acutally there is no limit. At best it stops at own needs, common sense and wallet.

Driving Dynamic: 320i satisfactorily fulfils your needs unless you live for performance driving and one who speeds.

Image: 320i more than fulfils, there are many others who wish to have one but couldn't make it yet.

Value for Money: Yes, worths every cent.

Will I buy again or change?: Yes but perhaps to Mercedes in my next purchase.

My apologies if what I had said trouble you! Cheers

Bro Charcoal, based on ur nick u should get a black 320i instead of white ma :p
LOL bro...somehow the nick is something to do with my past hobby of drawing using charcoal...oh by the way, there is white charcoal too (for drawing that is) :)

Nice conclusion bro charcoal. I guess at the end, to each their own. As long as we are happy with what we have.

Driving my new car yesterday hitting 200km/h on highway (well I live in Bangi so have the opportunity lah) and feeling my back stuck on the seat due to the acceleration and power, I felt like a kid again and it makes me smile end to end. I don't drive fast usually, but I know I have the extra 'horses' when I need them.

If u like fast car, get the one with more hp & Nm. Frequency of driving fast is irrelevant.

If not, go for the economical model, unless u like the car to hav factory fitted bells & whistles.

With due respect, its that simple.

Just "noticed" this thread and noted u mentioned the RS250... a little off subject, while an Intriguing car, but too much torque steer even with its advanced front diffs so It cant steer when accelerating hard. Will not be a match for the 328 overall, esp once a 328i gets a proper suspension upgrade i believe. But i do sometimes think of that car and how excitingly raw it is strange :)

Conclusion..Get the 328 with the m performance chassis (onceit gets here)..

Yup. It is quite an intriguing car, the RS250. I find it funny how Ferrari and Lambo drivers sometimes complain getting bullied by these, heh...! And to think that our 328i matches 'em in terms of engine output. In fact, I got a friend who complained on a wee mornin' drive in his 2011 Cayenne S, he got bullied by a F30 328i and couldn't help being dA#m impressed.

M Sports suspension quite necessary though coz the stock though fun on most urban roads has its limits once the road opens up. Sigh.

I fully agree with you, particularly on the point the F30 320i has enough power to satisfy. This is because of the fabulous forced induction technology it employs. Having tried, I believe the F30 320i is faster than the E90 325i and the latter was an undoubted sporting icon. If you had said the same thing about 320i of yester generations i.e. E90, E46, I would laugh and think you're nuts :)

Ive been quoted about 12k by AB. This kit includes also front and rear sway bars (which i think are critical) plus the basic shocks, springs and installation. Quite sizeable amount of mullah to fork out but should be the ultimate upgrade. the m perf chssis is even 10mm lower than the m sport suspension. This should provide the 328 with the right chassis settings to complement its fabulous powertrain (an unsung hero as part of the powertrain noted here is also the 8 speed sport auto tranny..its seamles and DSG like super quick in manual mode) Yumm! Wondering whether anyone in this forum has done the upgrade already...

wat u guys think if the upgrade is being done on a 320i? or is it a waste of time.... haha

What if the price gap between a 320i and a 328i is just around 10k++? Then u won't be in such dilemma anymore right? I mean just the rim and the full I-drive system is worth the additional 10k++ probably....

An upgrade is never a waste of time, maybe money but the joy of modding and upgrading is well worth it hahahaha :p

In uk the 328 is only abt gbp3k ( rm15k) more than the 320, thats what i understand. Here I guess the 50k more is due to additional accessories and tax.
