The ratio of sprung to unsprung weight is a fine balance in car design. Generally, the higher the ratio, the more comfortable the ride, but there comes a point after which it results in poorer handling and braking. That point varies from from car to car as there are many variables involved. It's not always true in every car that lower unsprung weight is always better.

Couldn't agree more! not only from car to car, but from driver to driver.. :D

For me.. unsprung weightless is better! yeeeehaaaaa...

Comfort? I rather be in my bed.. :D

BMW = Luxury car that attract attention for most ordinary people, sometimes the wrong kind of attention that you'll need. RFTs give u the extra 'insurance' you'll need in an unlikely event of where you have attracted the wrong kind of attention. Let me give u a real account and you'll really think twice before considering cutting your budget on tyres and getting non-RFTs.

.......edited.......

After this incident, I'm 100% convinced that the extra few k are really worth spending for a safer 18-24 months ride. There are situations where you just don't have the time or the right environment for you to change your tyre or inject it with your tyre kit, and you don't want to regret your decision on your tyre spending when you are in those unlucky situation.

Sorry Morganl, but my mind went into overtime.

I am just wondering what is the objective of the perpetrators.

If it was to take the car, then why incapacitate it.

If it is to rob or abduct you, then it could have been done in so many other ways.

I guess we will never know.

My thoughts as well. Surely the pros would know the BMW was fitted with RFTs? Either that or they were amateurs at best. Still based on your account, the RFT was justified.

Exactly my thoughts when I first read the post.

When you have an unusual flat tyre situation like Morganl and I had, you can't help thinking that it was more than a nail or screw on the road. Let us know how you feel about RFTs after your next flat...which is kinda inevitable on our poorly maintained roads.

I don't have to wait for my first flat, I already know what I'll say,

"!@$^&%$%&**^%#@! non-RFT, why the @#$!% did I change it". Then I'll say "@#%$#@ useless mobility kit", and then &^%$#@ AAM, they never come when I need them.

I also know what I'd say when I start moving around in a wheel chair and never have sex again - !@#$%^&*()(*&^%$#@!!@#$%^&**&^&%$@#$^&*(((, why didn't I change to @#^&**^%$#@ non-RFT.
