Yes, Rachel, I literally measured the thread depth with a thread depth guage at my tyre shop. No guesswork involved, and I did the measurements myself. What's amazing is that the new tyre has a thread of 9mm. After 13 months of quite spirited driving, my fronts have 8mm left and rears have 6mm. So the wear rate on the RE050As is very good. Better than the 140 UTQG rating suggests. Maybe the Japanese are very honest with their ratings compared to the others...

When I changed my tyres after about 30k km on the clock, my front tyres were more worn than the back ones. I was a bit puzzled as the car is RWD, however my mechanic said that that's the characteristic of E90. Anyone has a better explanation?

u shud change when the indicator is the same level with ur tyre thread.....coz if accident, the evaluator will check on that...if found u are driving with a bald tyre thread...they'll not cover u

Wah! got such thing meh? Can anyone confirm this? .. because I normally run my tyres until they become full slick... sometimes can see canvas.. :p

E90 320i is pretty balance car and for gentle driver, front will wear faster than the rear due to cornering and braking. However, those of us who do spirited drive frequently, rear tyres wear faster.

E90 6-potter on the other hand, 10 out of 10 rear tyres wearing faster which I believe due to the more aggressive acceleration produced by the 6-potter.

oh wait, if i just need to change the front right...and if schwepps going to get new ones? can i then inherit his old tyres??

I'm not getting new tyres, Rachel. Only changing the damaged one - you can have it if you want :)

Astro is correct. I drive mostly on highways, so cornering and braking is minimal. But I floor the accelerator a lot, so my rears are working harder.

Haaha! For aunties that brake a lot, front tyre will wear faster.. :p

oh..we can just change 1 piece and not all 4 ???

Ps: for aunties n uncles that brake n curse a lot..the car will be weary!

CK: u got ur new car yet???

Rachel, unless you have a bad puncture like Schwepps, then you can change one tyre only.

I do have the perception that changing tyres are always done in pairs, like front 2 or back 2 for staggered set-ups. Correct me if I'm wrong, sifus.

Yes, better to change by axle than singly. But my other rear tyre still has 6mm thread. The new one has 9mm, so it's only 50% used (should never go below 3mm) Wasteful to chuck it - on the environment and on my pocket :p

Send your brand new RM1,850 tyre to the celup shop for grind down to 6mm to match with the other shoe.. I use to do that with track tyres at one celup shop in Sri Gombak. 20% tread is sweet for track days.. :D

Rachel is right, you should not wear a different height left/right shoe.. nanti jatuh terkangkang.. :p

Ooooooooo! I never thought of that! 3mm difference hoh?

Now I'm so scared! Where's the celup shop in Sri Gombak then? :D

CK: What was the brand & model we were discussing the other day? Goodyear blah blah **what model**
Goodyear F1 Asymmetric - much cheaper than the PS2's and very highly rated. In fact recommended to me by my NZ BMW mechanic over the PS2's. I am planning on trying them on my next change.

Picked up the new car on Friday. Not as much fun as UDM to drive - very uncleji kinda car. Built more for creature comforts than drivability. Can bring to next meetup if you want :top:

Ya, was your wear even? Most of the time I see E90 front tyres wear faster on the outer edges of the tyre. Not very even. I wonder why too, cos our cars are all dialed in with some -ve camber in the front.

Hey CK. Congrats on the new S Class! AMG kit, wheels and some sports suspension it and it'll look and "feel" less uncle. Ya bring it in our next meet up, we can all pretend like big tai kors sitting in the rear hahaha.

OMG...S Class? :) I went from Alfa to 3-series to big hulks to 4WDs, and now back to 3-series. My next car is probably an Alfa. It's called 'the stages of life'. You kids are all a few stages behind me... :p

haha! no worries, just keep your fingers away from the DSC button... you should be fine.. :top:

CK, I'm using the Goodyear F1 Assymetrics now and I'm not that impressed. It's comfortable but just doesn't inspire a lot of confidence at higher speeds or more aggressive driving. Love to check out the new ride though.

His first choice was a E92 M3 DCT. But he needed to get a CKD car to enjoy his MM2H benefit. Only car which is CKD for that price range is the new S350. Lets help him pimp up his new S class :p.

Oh well, for that price range, what other CKD is there? I guess he made the best choice he could. :top:

Was cursing the rules after sitting in the recent taxi ride...anyway, still happy with my UDM. My father in law
can get chauffererd everywhere in the merc. Plus I have to keep their sales up since they are a big client...

Actually the highest CKD is now the S500, but they only released it after my application had gone through. Could have got it for an extra RM70,000.
