did you all change oil seperator? What is it for? why need to change? what are the symptom of failing for oil seperator?

yes i did, first thing i got the car.
engine and throttle feel lighter and responsive.
gear changes also smoother.

symptoms - engine vibrate at cold starts, engine and throttle feel heavy etc ... engine not breathing properly

when i got the car - 16.6L/100km
now - 13.6L/100km

cost about 800 for the whole set.

what did they change actually? a hose only and labour for 800 bucks?

I'm now having almost the same fuel consumption as urs. think slightly better than urs.

Hi fellow SMGians,

I'm currently considering a few e46 including a couple SMG, but I'm really really really worried that I'll make a mistake of getting a problematic one. The conservative part of me is saying I should just settle for a non-SMG for obvious reason (less risky buy), but the adventurous itchy part is telling me to go for it. I'm kinda hoping some of u guys can shed some light and give me like a run down on what to look out for when picking the right UDM and/or SMG. I expect some amount of repairs for wear and tear would reasonably be required to take care of say oil separator, seal, actuator etc like u guys mentioned here, but are there anything, symptoms etc that I should be really wary when viewing/checking the car (SMG especially)? I'm hoping to finalise things and get my UDM in the next few weeks. Hence, all input is greatly valued and much appreciated. And one last thing, can the seller hide a lot of faults by say warming up the engine waaayy before I get there to check the car? i.e. make the car engine appears smoother etc.

If u r planning to buy a smg, the best way is get one person who own a smg, and test it for u. Even workshop mechanic, cant tell whether is normal smg problem. And usually used car will tell u, smg is like that one. So better be careful when come to smg.

despite hearing/reading all the nightmares i went for it, i never tot much about it ... just wanted to try something diff by bmw.. if u ask me, all bmw have weak Gb's... give me any bmw and i can break the gb in just 3 days... hehe ;) i prefer japanese GB's, they dont break easy... my other conti that uses japanese, issin gb work like a dream no matter how hard u whack it...

so it really depends what u looking for? im up for the fun and thrill of it ...

i know of a 325 smg clocking 250,000km and still going strong, just need to practice preventive maintenance and a lot of reading up ...

once u get used to the smg... u will like it very much especially at high revs ...

For some reason I feel like I'm standing on a table now...

I'll leave it to the experienced

Anywhere in and around Damansara, or in the vicinity of 30km is fine with me :top:

thanks bro. yea not really a racun, more like me trying really hard to tell and pacify myself that the buy is justified LOL. i must say that I am overjoyed, plus anxious and relief all at the same time. overjoyed as i got what i want (u're spot on about dat sach), anxious still of the risk (will have to figure out if it's really as good as it look, sound and ride (during the viewing) in the next few months) and relief that my car hunt has ended. it's all common syndrom of post-buy sickness of a new owner of used UDM i guess.

it's an smg 330i, low mileage, what looks like (interior, exterior and engine bay) a well taken care of stock condition m-sport spec, some of u guys might have seen it advertised on mudah.com recently. got a trusted car-avid fren and mechanic to check, test drive etc, plus background n story of the seller on the low mileage etc checks out, so instinct say just grab it then figure out any issue later (i suppose there's so much one can check).

of coz the home ministry is not really happy of me getting a conti due to our bad experience with another conti (renault) before. but hey show her who d man, yeah right (hope she's not reading this) lol.

i know it will be a thrilling journey, n i'll be needing all assistance that I could get. so hope to learn from u guys, sach, b33mer, clavenk plus others like mizhan, ssman, jarance, haywire etc just to name a few. read a lot of post here by u all over the past couple months, seems like there are a lot of kind and cool soul here.

I'm just estatic at the moment lol (as you can see from my babbling, sorry bout the long post) hope it's a good sign of what's to come. wish me luck!!

woohooo, round of applause to afazlee. welcome to the smg family. although really very few smg owners, i think that's make us closer or more click right?(i dono, maybe??)Haha..
