Bro Ozone & Ryan..

Any updates?

Did the gearbox reprogramming at M Power in Ipoh ( not connected to the one in KL ) for RM 80.00.
Did not remove the engine cover for the time being.
So far not involved in traffic jam so I have no idea whether it is OK or not.
But the drive back was good - managed to go to 225km/h for a very short time when the road was clear and the car still feels that it can still go faster. But my brain told me to slow down ........ to legal speeds.

Sorry to hear about that.
Do you have to keep the new parts since the old parts does not appear to be the problem ?
The mechanic I go to used to work in CarTrade for 9 years and he told me the way AB check for some faults is to keep on changing parts unitl they srike - and the poor consumer pays.

y not they suggest to me change my car to a latest model than my problem will be solve...

Why don't you try writing to BMW Malaysia to lodge a complain ?
They might be able to help to subsidise to protect their name.
No harm trying.

Yes, write to BMW Malaysia.

I have some problem with my smg last time. Local dealer had some problem identifying the cause of gear slip intermittently and took longer time than promised. BMW then send down their 'mechanic' to test the car. In the end they change the control unit, the clutch pump and the clutch plate. I paid only the cost for the clutch plate. The control unit and the clutch pump was given free under 'good will' by BMW.

A friend of mine had experience gear problem after about 1 1/2 year, no more under warranty, e46 325. The local dealer was able to claim it under 'good will' from BMW.

So, write to BMW, email them.

Regards.

What problem did you have? from what I know, actuator only need to changed if the actuater is leaking.

FYI: I did send my car to a few places before, so far... only AB Sungai Besi really have exprience, they can do SMG car.

Again..... call or write to BMW Malaysia. ask them to think how to solve your car problem.

Finally, after 13 months of owning this car and and putting in about 25,000 km on it, the dreaded problem has arrived.
Car had difficulty changing into gear.
AB confirmed today it is the leaking actuator and perhaps wet or worn out clutch.
It does not happen all the time, only in bad traffic jams.
AB checked the actuator oil level at it was nearing empty level.
Any they quote me RM 2k for clutch and RM 4.6k for actuator.
Wormanship is about RM 1.5k.
Said might be other parts that need changing but depends on what they see when they open it up eg flywheel etc.
So I am facing a mnimum bill of RM 8k.
Worse still, actuator no stock and takes 10 days to arrive from Germany.
AB records show that both items wer changed in 2006 when mileage was 20k plus under warranty.
So that means lifespan of the item is about 40,000 km. and I am not a roug driver.
Luckily it is bonus month otherwise I am dead.

Just to share my exp.

Difficult to change gear, transmission light up at around 103k KM.

1st stage

Actuator leak -replace with used

Clutch plate - replace

ECU - kaput, replace with the latest version

Result : unsolved, gearbox detected as kaput

2nd stage

used gearbox - after test 4-5 unit, finally found the good one.

Problem solved.

Better than before. Latest ECU make the trans. shift better.

Total damage - around 18k + some minor things.

Thanks to Mspeed USJ.:top:

P/s : My car is UK spec (grey) so still no warranty with AB and the cost is double.

Man, the SMG is one exciting transmission to drive but it sure sounds like a major pain to take care of. Avoid jams? In KL? I wish I had a cute genie next to me who could blink and transport me out of a jam whenever I got caught in one.

It's just a shame that manual e46s are near impossible to find in Malaysia. The car gods made the manual gearbox for a reason - so that real gearheads can enjoy the pleasures of driving. And on an UDM, a stick would taste oh soooo good. Damn! This is depressing.
