rattling and vibrating issues

Hi all, i am a new member, joined 5 minutes ago. Bought my first BMW 2 months ago, a 320sports. To date i have not discovered the JOY they promised with this car. Chanced upon this forum when i was looking for a solution to this rattling noise problem. Wished i have read about this issue before, would have decided on the C200 instead.

This noise from my back doors or seat is killing me. It is not sharp nor loud. Sounds more like something is loose somewhere, can be quite subtle and it only happens on uneven road/when the car is traveling at slower speed. I was driving a Japanese car before and never have this problem.

Sent the car to AB Glenmarie last week to be fixed. The noise reduced significantly for a few day but then it came back with a vengeance! Maybe my expectation is high, but i am rather disappointed.

What should i do?!

Hi Atty, i guess you are goign through exactly the same crap as me. I ll be bringing the car in to be "fixed" for the second time sometime next week. The rattling is just insanely annoying, and honestly i would agree with what the others of said, no more beemers from now.

As for the whirling sound, I thought it was my imagination! someone noticed it too...at first it didnt sound normal, but after driving it for a few months now, its probly a normal thing...the high frequency sound can be irritating when driving at night...so...is this normal ? lol

Hi Hcl,

Has the rattling noise problem been solved?

Im having cricket sounds on my 5 + month old 320

My sales advisor has been helpful, asking me to bring the car in, arranging for service, etc. But it is the technician that will have to fixed the problem. My question is whether they know what to do/fix in the first place. When i went in the first time, i drove with a tech. He acknowledged the noise and knew what i was complaining about. But how come the problem is not resolved?

Thinking of sending the car in again after CNY. Or are we just wasting our time?

Hi Atty,

I'm having cricket sound problem with my 5+ month old 320. So guess i should say welcome to the club.

Im planning to send mine back to the service centre but i have a feeling they cant solve it.

Hi Lynn, mine is only 2 mths old. So i am trembling with fear as i do not know what to expect further down the road.
So this is the disappointed-BMW-owners club eh?!

To be fair, the car is really fun to drive and nice to look at.

I totally agree with you, So, to prevent myself from being distracted / dissapointed with the cricket sound, I just on the music each time i drive until i find someone to rectify it.

Your Japanese car never sound a thing is because it's not as tight fit as a beemer. Tolerance is different. I have been driving japanese cars, so I can tell. I guess it's the door seal rubber. Park under the sun a lot? Try this, apply some leather seat conditioner with a cloth on the rubbe. I do it every 2-3mths, so far so good.

Hi Lynn and Atty,

The problem was not solved, well, it was solved for about 5 days, and all the sounds came back with interest and has been haunting me since. I ve had the car since Mid Nov and to this date, i would say that the only times i ve actually fully enjoyed driving it was the 5 days without the annoying sounds. They told me to bring in the car again, i asked them what they would do, he said, we will apply teflon tape, I told them they already did his reply was " Oh" hahaha i find BMW Malaysia ridiculous

Is this the sound?

HCL... yes it is about 5 days that it went almost rattling noise free. After that it sounded a little worst i think.

I might just try vroom325's leather conditioner's advice. I dont park under the sun at all. Both home and work are in basement and sheltered. The only time my car was park under hot sun for a long period of time was at AB Glenmarie. They chucked my car in the open yard after 'attempting' to fix this problem. When i went to collect it last week, they forgot to wash it and drive it to the side collection parking space. Wasn't impressed with their service at all.

Lynn, yes, i tend to put on the music louder nowadays. When i first got the car i like to hear the sound of the engine roar as i accelerate. Now the cricket and rattle snake has taken over the stage!

Atty, i should be bringing the car back to AB glen to let them have the final attempt to fix it. let me know if u want to bring it together..hahaha, convoy of complaints...anyone want to join..speak up!

HCL, when you are you bringing your car in? Which day and what time?
The SC is rather busy now with everyone rushing to service their cars before CNY.
I thought they will have more time and focus post CNY.

HCL,LYNN,ATTY

I know of some owners got their rattling noise fix either realignments of the door, applying teflon tape and lubricating the rubber seals with rubber care solutions.
On my unit, l applied WAXCO Auto Guard Protectant all over the rubber door seal and the noise dissappear. However, it last for a month or two and the noise came back. A good friend of mine suggested Talcum powder.............. hmm that didnt work as well. So l guess l am gonna use back the WAXCO rubber protectant solution. Anyway, there will be a Teh Tarik session tonight at MJ Cafe Tropicana and you all should meetup and discuss this in length as there are E90 experts there that can advise further.......
