He bought the tensionner in Ban Huat Chan. Then get it change in his regular workshop.
Parts cost about RM90.

Thanks bro. I know how much the part cost but what I would like to know is the cost of labour. and whether the job is time consuming. BTW what is your ride engine is it M43 or N42?

Cheers

Bro SkyEvo, the cost of labor is very cheap to free as the work is straigtforward, remove tensioner and put new one. I did it along with fuel filter replacement so not sure exactly.

Bro kby88 is also N42, from my search only the N engines uses the same chain tensioner http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partxref.do?part=11317567680&showus=on&showeur=on

Hmmmm. I called M1 and asked them how much and how long it will take to change the chain tensioner and they told me that they have not heard of such a part but only ball bearing tensioner and there are 3 of those.

Bro aidilj & kby88, u guys based in Penang?

Bro ndsolo, if you are N42 then you sure have it. Even the mechanic here is not aware of such thing, Bro kby88 brought the new chain tensioner to them and asked them to change.

Bro kby88 is from Sungai Petani but his car makes the journey to Penang island effortless..

Bro aidilj, where did you have the job done is the workshop located on the mainland or island side. Mind sharing? Thanks.

Thanx bro, anyway I took a photo on my phone camera and will go to them tomorrow and ask them to change the part.

My mechanic says no issue with the chain tensioner. He disconnected the pump which blows extra air for morning start. The noise is still there so he reconnected it.

Hmmm, the sound is most apparent during cold start in reverse gear, and goes down once a bit warm. Comes on and off when I press the accelerator. I will get a friend when I start the car in the morning and hold the gear in reverse while I record the sound.

It is a rough constant sound like some loose metal sheet vibrating.

Mine is not auto but have the ticking sound in the morning or accelerating (when engine is running rich) due to cracked extractor. The extractor cracked a few times so I can identify the noise very well. The ticking sound can be heard in the cabin while driving as well.

This may not be your problem but just have it checked. Cheers

Looked at your first post and can confirm its the extractor crack/leak. You can hear the ticking sounds increases frequency according to the engine speed.

How much it cost to fix or replace the cracked extractor?

Depends on the crack i guess. But most of the labor charge would be to remove the exhaust and waiting for the engine to be cold (usually left overnight at the mech) before extractor can be removed.

Wow. Yea that could be the case. Did you change your extractor or repair by welding? How much was your cost if you don't mind sharing? I never realised that extractor can also crack. Was it due to hard acceleration?

The extractor was repaired by welding, paid not more than RM200 for the repair. I asked them and they said this rarely/never happen, they also said that it could be due to hard driving. But then again I always drive moderately

Bro aidilj..where did u bought the chain tensioner..here at my place they ask for Rm170..urggghhh..what a price.'pancung kepale'..
