Atty, i should be bringing the car back to AB glen to let them have the final attempt to fix it. let me know if u want to bring it together..hahaha, convoy of complaints...anyone want to join..speak up!

Try Quill at Section 14. I like their service so far but I have not contacted them bout the cricket sound yet.

That cricket sound doesn't sound like a door problem to me. Too high pitched. More like glass vibrating or rubbing against something metallic.

You would never get this in a Jap car because the Japanese would rather commit hara-kiri than continue to sell a product with an obvious defect. I'm frankly surprised that the Germans would.

I doubt the SC can ever solve this issue. Even after my third visits to the SC, the rattling noise still keep coming back after several days especially after I wind down my driver's window.

BMW M'sia is totally aware of this and is shocking that they did not take responsibility on this matter. They just push it to the SC hoping that they can solve it.......some day......

Also I can hear excessive wind noise from my wing mirror at speed above 110km/h. According to SA, it's cause by the large LCI wing mirror(to meet European safety standards) and nothing can be done about it. I can hear squeak sound when I press the cover of my wing mirror(LCI)!!

So phantom, you just put up with the rattling noise all this while?
Which SC do you go to? I wonder whether there is a SC out there who has successfully kill the rattle snake for good.

Has anyone written to BMW Malaysia to complain? What is their standard response?
I am finding it really difficult to live with this rattling noise. I am especially embarrassed when i have guest in the car.

Where is the JOY??! More like a PAIN to me right now. Sigh!

Dear Atty,

I know exactly how you feel about it. As do a LOT of E90 owners. And you may be surprised to know that it's not restricted to just the E90. Not all the cars but most certainly enough owners, to make it painfully obvious that this is very much a known issue. The thing with BMW is, I doubt they are planning on do anything that will look like a recall for all LCI owners because:

1. They don't know what to do or how to solve this.

2. They are innovators. They create something, sell it and if it doesn't work, they replace it with a new model later on. Tough....

3. They're too busy selling as many cars as possible whilst trying to build them cheaper. Sound familiar?

And so you see, because of this, in the equation of getting a quality car, the onus is upon the owners to ensure it; by complaining and sending the car in repetitively.....until they discover that their efficiency, productivity and ultimately sales, will be affected by the time spent on listening to complaints, the time spent/wasted on remedial action and BMW owners discussing their car issues, here on the forum, in the showroom lounge or in the nearby mamak stalls - potentially warding off new clientele.

to avoid the sound from the mirror, shud i change it to the M3 side mirror? :D

......thus begins the 'racuning' process.

Hmmm, I wonder how much one costs? They're really pretty. And when you amortise the price against the number of years of use you'll get out of them, it's not THAT bad. And yesssss.....it would certainly lessen wind-noise. Being so aerodynamic and all. Hehehe.

Do they come in black and carbon-fibre too? What are the options?....LOL

ori one doesnt come in carbon fibre, ard 1400 usd per pair

i remember GC selling non ori one, in carbon, 1400 rm per pair

Good news.

Based on recommendation from Hayashi, yesterday i went to search for this Waxco Auto Guard Protectant. Could not find it but bought a KIT UV Guard lotion instead for RM9.90. Applied it on all my doors' rubber seal and the rattle snake went to sleep! Not a single rattling noise! Drove my car out just now after more than 24 hrs and it is still ok. I am beginning to enjoy my ride.

So confirmed it is the rubber seal problem and it's amazing how it can be solved with RM9.90 lotion. I will be monitoring to see how long it last. Will keep you guys posted. Thank you all for all the suggestions and help!

Hi Atty,

thats great to hear, do u mind telling me where u purchased this magic lotion ? as i would like to enjoy my ride too.....

atty, I shall wait for your next magic lotion report before my next course of action.

sharp, I should not drive above 110km/h then, so to avoid the wind noise from the mirror.....but where is the JOY??!!
Seriously I prefer the E36 M3 teardrop wing mirror than those currently available for the E90....

Good to hear that this lotion work as well, however please monitor for a month or two. In my case, the noise came back but not as crazy as first time. Will be lubricating again the rubber seal !

The lotion that l got , WAXCO is easily found at any hardware shop, ACE, carrefour, parkson or GIANT. I believe Atty's magic lotion can be similarly found at these places.

Haha... not a magic lotion la.
I figure just any product that is meant for application on rubber to protect it against the UV rays would do. In my case, i was at Cold Storage and they mostly carry only KIT products. But these are available everywhere.

This is a quick solution and can be done in less than 5 minutes. I figure this can just be an extra step when we clean our cars every week. Just like how we would shine the tyres. Anyhow, i will monitor the noise level and present my magic lotion report to you guys periodically.

So far it has been almost 48hrs and the rattle snake is still asleep.

Probably write/call BMW M'sia and ask them to re-imburse you that bottle of KIT UV lotion and perhaps supply you with BMW original UV lotion free for life (aka as long as your ATF last)!

A friend's E90 had some rattling noise some where rear of the car (sounded like from boot). The outside mechanic root caused it to rear seat's back panel mounting. Guess the mechanic fixed it with some grease.

It should last your car until the next car wash, at least. Depending on how "thick" or sticky is the lotion that you apply. The last time I applied was like about 2-3mths back, can't clearly recall, but still ok. I m using leather seat conditioner...

phantom phantom.... dont drive so fast hor...

anyway, retrofit E36 M3 one lor :D

so far, mine no issue, but then again, its been sometime since i drive the 3 silly liao
